Debo, you have tested many rods and reels... you should do a couple of videos with your favorite $50, $100, $150 rods and reels. You continue to help newer anglers by providing real information and reviews. Keep up the solid work...
Best budget reel i have ever owned. Liked it so much I went and bought a costal and a tatula sv. If you like the cc80 you will love the tatula. Anything with the tws guid. Daiwa all day.
There are advantages to buying reels and rods from places like Bass Pro, Cabela’s, Field & Stream, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Wal-Mart. Any local store accepts returns. If you decide you don’t like what you bought you can return it at any store close to you. If you break a rod or reel they will give you another pretty much with no questions asked. If you buy one of their premium rods and reels some have decent warranties too. If you have issues with any kind of lures or tackle you just go to any store and return it. It beats packing it up, getting a return label and going to the post office if you don’t need too. You can still buy online and get something not carried by the store in your area too. If you look closely their rods and reels are just popular models branded with their name. They use the same rod blanks as other brands that cost a lot more. They also do the same thing with reels. Most reels and rods under $300 dollars are coming from Korea, Taiwan and China anyway. There are very few rod blanks made in the United States most high end rods are built using rod blanks from you know where; China.
Debo, Thank you for presenting budget options, fishing is soo expensive. For the newbie entry level options are good news. There is a lot of junk and good equipment at all price points reviews like this help us figure out what is good and not so good. Thank you for mentioning this is a Doyo reel. We have a tendency to think the big players make all of their own equipment.
Great video Debo!!! Once agian droping some feeeshin knowledge on us! Diawa makes a great reel for an affordable price. Thank you for keeping us budget fishers in mind.
Thank you for reviewing some cheaper options it really helps for those teens who really don’t have that much money.you are my favorite TH-cam because you live in the Midwest just like me I live in solon iowa.thank you
I bought one of these reels to pair with a 7' Shimano Sellus MH rod after watching a review of the rod on Tactical Bassin. I really like it. Light and easy to fish with from the bank pretty much all day. I have 2 $100 rod/$100 dollar reel combos and I do agreee that is where you start to really see the difference vs a cheaper combo. That being said I do have several budget combos that are well below the $100 baseline and i enjoy fishing those. Put some decent quality braid, flouro, or monofliament, whatever that is and go fishing. Debo I am really starting to appreciate your channel more and more. Good, honest reviews of fishing tackle, rods, reels that are within the price range of most budget anglers like myself.
We went out with a guide on Chickamauga last year and the guide had those 80s for his customers, I brought my own but my buddy used them and he really was impressed with them
This was my first baitcaster. Bought it earlier in the year and use that exact p-line on a shimano sellus 7' MH. Great video, love having the reassurance I set it up appropriately.
I have two Procaster 2500s that I’ve used for three seasons, I’m in season four with them, and theyve been excellent for me. I did finally upgrade the reels to a Daiwa Exceler 2500D-XH, and have been very happy with each. The rod is perfect. I plan on buying one to give me two. My first baitcaster I built, but this combo will work for me.
I've had that same reel for a little over a year now and it is a fantastic choice for your buck.it is a pretty light reel that I use for texas rigs. A great choice for any beginner out there
I have one too the brake is SUPER TIGHT. Also the drag gets in the way of the spool tensioner. I just can't seem to get this piece of crap adjusted right
Ive owned Lews, Quantum, Abu Garcia, and Ugly Stick rods forever. I bought a Daiwa rod little over a week ago and caught about 6 or 7 fish with it so far. Handles fish nicely and is giving me the feelings of quality and durability. If it handles me and my rough pond hopping ways for a few months I’ll definitely be buying more because im loving it so far.
I bought this reel after tearing tendons In my shoulder and switching to a right handed reel. I’m liking this reel and I usually throw shimano Chronarchs.
Thanks for the review Debo. I think I would put that reel on a med power, fast or extra fast tip. But like you, with a composite or graphite frame, light lures/jigs only. Love the product reviews man. Keep 'em comin'! 🎣👍
I’ve been contemplating picking this up to pair with my Diawa Laguna 7’ “MH” (which btw feels like a Med for sure) that’s comparable with the Shimano Sellus for $20 cheaper! Totally worth the $29.99 price point & has been a workhorse in my arsenal for a solid year now👌 That would be what I’d like to see a review on, but I digress. Thanks for the info on the CC80, I know what real I’ll be pairing my Laguna with permanently now 🤘🤓 Thanks for all you are and do Debo 🤙
Debo, Hello ! I enjoyed this review.… after watching it, I ordered mine from Tackle Warehouse. I’m looking to move from the Illinois side of the QC. I am leaning toward Iowa. Thank you for all your advice my brother. If you can provide some assistance in moving to a great fishing area in Iowa.
Another great episode. Would like to add another bait cast rig to my arsenal and I now have the option of a $50 price point if I can’t justify another $100 reel this time around. 👍
So I got the ca80 last year and recently got a slx Xt this year and while I do like my Diawa I find that it wants to cast heavier baits. Anything less than half ounce dose not cast far and tangles frequently. The xt has had very few blowups by comparison. The xt also casts the lighter lures much better. I was able to get the Diawa for $45ish on Amazon so definitely a steal. This was my first bait caster and so lots of learnin, but by comparison way more confidence in the slx.
I have one and I like the fact that I can throw in on the ground and not worry about a scratch and it works good... keep in mind this is the exact reel that Lews makes in the same price point.. identical..
Really like your reel/rod/line videos. I would really like to hear more about your 100-125 dollar workhorse reels Shim SLX, Lew’s LFS, Daiwa Fuego etc.
I jus got this reel, but wit the combo. I mainly bought it for the rod(which is a great rod in my opinion) but the reel is decent too, ive only gotten to use it a few times but so far I'm pleased, it's surprisingly smooth
I’ve had one a couple years now. Use it for top water stuff… works great. Smooth and quiet. Only gripe is how touchy the main brake is. Once ya get it set right no issues, but it takes some fine tweaking. Well worth $60
I have the CG80. When I first got it, it wasn’t very smooth as I had hoped and I was wondering why I bought it. I hooked a big fish and after reeling it in the reel became as smooth as silk. Weird. Fish with it all the time now.
Great review. I bought one the beginning of last season and used it on my jig rod. I love it for a budget reel. It's smooth and very easy to tune and use. I cleaned it and oiled it at the end of the season and it's ready to go for round two. I ordered another one for my Med weight casting rod.
Mr stubbs needs his own channel lol. Been looking for a new reel for the six gill rods I ordered. Doubt that I’ll stay under the $100 mark though. As always love your reviews
ALSO! I wanted to give you a heads up. Bass Pro just released an updated model of their XPS crank baits. I got 5 of them in hand and honestly I have to say they're just as nice of quality as my KVD 1.5 square bills. Super nice/crisp paint jobs. They have an extra shallow, shallow, medium and deep model. I got the 2 foot extra shallow model. They're 4 bucks in change a piece! Again they're JUST as nice as my strike king square bills. I have a feeling strike king actually makes them for bass pro since they're so similar. Check em out! Been stocking up while this snow is falling lol.
I just seen this daiwa bait caster reel and rod combo at my local big 5 sporting goods store for $65 I was going to buy it but I wanted to see a review of it before being it the rod is great
Wuddup buddy-its BassFishin_Brian(just made a channel name change thats more brand-able)Dude,I got the CR80,and its almost like a BFS baitcaster with that 80mm spool size.great for casting small cranks,&right now its on my Ark Lancer Pro 6'10"med spooled up with 10lb flouro cuz its a gr8 jerkbait combo.lightline,no backlashes and Ive fished the CRAP out of it for almost 3 years.Great reels.Even Diawas low end is pretty good.
Decent overall reel. I used one with braid to rip a jig out of grass on Guntersville and destroyed the gears in it pretty quickly. I liked it otherwise though.
I have 3 of the cr80s and I love them. In the past with budget diawa reels like the laguna and newer model laguna the button would become so weak it wouldn't click back when turning the handle. Taking the spring out and giving it more tension seems to fix it for a while but still very annoying.
Yep. I used the Fuegos and got a cc80. Then got two more. I use 'em float tubing in salt water, so they are exposed to salt spray. All three working great. I've used a couple of other brand reels in the bays (under $100) and either they get a lazy button that doesn't pop back up (Quantum, Okuma, Pinnacle) or froze up solid after a few uses (Shimano). Watch Amazon and Ebay for deals...I paid 43.00 to 50.00 for mine...
I’ve wanted to try this reel several times but never pulled the plug, my cheapest Baitcaster is the lews American hero camo....I like it better than the lews kvd reel! I’m a Daiwa fan though so I’ll probably grab the cc80(depending on what you say in the video!)
I’m having an issue with my Fuego reel, the brakes are all the way up and it still wants to backlash a lot but other than that when it’s running right it’ll sling a rattle trap half the spool!
Debo, I recently came across your channel and subscribed after watching a few videos, mainly jig and baitcasting videos. Also, I was having a very hard time deciding between a Lew's LFS and. Shimano SLX, and decided to go with the Lew's based on both reviews you did, which are leaps and bounds above all others I watched or read. I grew up fresh water fishing on the streams of Maine. Low fishing pressure, lots of great fish. Very limited baitcasting experience, mostly spinning gear. I grew up fishing the old school Mitchell spinning reels and was hoping to see an honest review by you of the Mitchell 300 pro. The older ones (which I still have) have taken beating after beating and work very well for being well over 30 years old. The newer models come in very reasonably priced, under $100. Take a look if you're not familiar. Hope you review them.
I would use it. I bought a generic baitcaster from amazon. It was like $35. I have never even tried to use a baitcaster so I wasn't sure if it would be for me if I wanted to get something pretty cheap so that way if I decided I didn't want to do it I was not very much money. However I've been using it for about a year now and I've had no issues with it it does pretty decent actually. It is a Lixada or something. 6.3:1, 12+1 bearings, .3 diameter line @ 110M. But as I get better I will be dropping out to that hundred dollar price point. But for now I like this because I can practice and try stuff and if I mess this thing up I don't feel too bad about it
The manufacturer of those Daiwa CC and CG 80 are the same manufacturers for Lews reels. If u put that CC 80 and an older model Lews LFS side by side you'll see the similarities like the same frame and side plate.
Yep. They're all Doyo. Doyo makes 90% of all name brand reels anymore. Shimano is one of the few companies left that design and manufacture their own reels.

Glad to see this video. I was watching a budget buyers guide video by tactical bassin and they recommended this reel
I would like to see more reviews on spinning reels, both budget and higher end. Thanks for another great review.
Thanks for doing this review DEBO! Really enjoyed, plus I just bought a CR80 so it's good to know that the even cheaper version is good as well!
Ahhhh I made the first comment!!! Bout dang time. Love your stuff dude. Keep it up 👍
Number one gear reviewer in tha game
Always appreciate ya my guy 👊
I got into baitcasters with a crappy Zebco $30 combo. It's served me well but want to upgrade. Thanks for the review DEBO!
You honestly can’t go wrong with any Daiwa from my experience. I’d like to try out their rods to see how they perform but the reels are straight 🧈
