Not really looking forward to this job, but I got your sliding replacement cover and I got a new shift boot on the way from FCP, and I want to vinyl-wrap the cracked veneer. Maybe this weekend. Couldn't tell if yours is a 5- or 6-speed tho. Mine's a 5 and desperately needs that 6th gear! Oh how do you get the shift knob off? Just pull real hard?
Just pull real hard, yes! Mine is also a 5-speed, I think maybe the facelift X5 6-cylinder had the option for a 6 speed? Good luck with your build! I love my E53
@@TheBimmerBarn Still haven't done it! Maybe after I move and the weather cools down. Yes the post-LCI had a 6-speed box. Those are even more scarce but as far as I know it's a direct swap. Way above my skill level (and available tools/lift/etc).

so idiotic . that's exactly how you don't pull on the handbrake, why do you think the teeth on the old handbrake are worn out, exactly because there are people who always pull over their teeth and that's not how you do it. beit a used one in good condition and to make the same mistake again and thus as if destroyed.🤦
So…essentially, every single part on BMW’s fall apart at 80k-100k miles. That’s not an issue for me so long as 1) BMW stops pretending they are luxury cars, 2) stops charging premium prices for their s**t piles, 3) drops the slogan: “the ultimate driving machine” and 4) admits they are the Ford or Germany. That’s not gonna happen so I’ll keep laughing at idiots who buy these garbage heaps.
