What can you say? Another haunting gem from the masters of symphonic metal. You can tell it's Nightwish without even knowing. Thanks Tommy.

From Century Child, one of those rare Nightwish songs with multiple writing credits. First part by Marko, second part by Emppu and Tuomas and third part by Tuomas. The poem in the end is read by Sam Hardwick, same "boy" who read for Dead Boy's Poem.

Ahhhhhh! Nightwish! They're always home. What a beautiful example of their early work.

This song is so often overlooked and it's a shame. Teenage me bawled her eyes out after hearing it for the first time. These times are thankfully long gone, but I still appreciate how strongly this piece hits.

Wow, I did not know that I needed your reaction to this until now. Thank you for that, this one is a hidden treasure from nightwish that not all reactors have found yet and I very much appreciate that you did.

I am winterstorm and much as I love what Tarja does now , I can still be nostalgic for what she had with Nightwish and how she sounded in earlier days. The two are not mutually exclusive.
Like trying a new restaurant and finding a new take on an old favourite dish you have had at the favourite hole in the walll you have been going to for years. My love for what went before is not diminished. Everything over Tarja's career is there to enjoy.
    Thank you for the reaction.
Yes this is the 1st album with Marko (Century Child 2002).
    Epic music their forte.

This song is one of their masterpieces, one of the great ones! Such a beautiful song and the lyrics as well. love it so much! Thank you!!
This song wass Ghost Love Score before Ghost Love Score😅
Criminally underrated song since it is a really old one and it has not been sang since Tarja's time in NW. And part of me does feel like it does belong in the past even if more people should listen to it.
Also, keep in mind that NW has a song called Beauty of the Beast and a song called Beauty and the Beast. Two completely different songs. :)

"Sanest choice in this insane world:
Beware the beast but enjoy the feast he offers"
I heard this first when I was a child. My life dramatically changed in cause of this.

As a big fan of Nightwish, I'm surprised that somehow I've missed this one! It's beautiful and complex like all of Tuomas' music. It's interesting to see Tuomas' evolution from the early days where his music was largely about resolving inner struggles that he had resulting from the strife and chaos in the band, to where he is today. Lyrically and thematically it is akin to Dead Boy's Poem and The Poet and the Pendulum which fit that period. Today, his compositions are more outwardly-focused (science/nature, society/humankind) rather than inwardly-focused.

Tuomas way with words is just on another level, even more so since english is not even his native language. He doesnt like being called a genius and stuff like that, but he definetely is one none the less.

Ah, possibly one of my favourite songs, from my favourite album. Century Child has a very strong theme of dark romanticism running through it. Or just Romanticism, honestly, as many of the lyrics reference works of the Romantic era/movement, starting with the album name which likely refers to 'Confession d'un enfant du siècle' (Confession of a Child of the Century) by Alfred de Musset. And 'Christabel' here, is a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Being empathic is a double edged sword Tommy...we feel the emotions of others that come out of the blue...it's because our soul frequencies are attuned to the energy 'out there'
We sometimes feel a weight that cannot be explained..
I felt that weight yesterday and today..
And then l saw your notification and heard your soothing voice and l feel a little lighter..
We all carry a tiny beast within us..do we let it control us or do we heal it and try to understand it ?
    Thanks Tommy..you're a beacon ! 🤗

The "long song" from Marko's first album, Century Child. This is my favourite Tarja-era album, one where Tuomas is confronting his darker feelings, after the first Nightwish existential crisis (the firing of their first bassist). And you're so right, sharing feelings is really important - Tuomas was ready to draw the curtain on NW until he was walking and talking with a friend (Tony Kakko of Sonata Arctica), who convinced him to keep going. If they hadn't talked, this would probably not exist!

So good to start my day seeing your beautifull face. This was a trip down memory lane for me, discovering Nightwish in my darker days. All gone now. I have learned how to pull myself out of misery. It sometimes takes a little time to acknowledge my feelings of hurt and despair. Still I am so much better at finding the light. Music is a big part of that. As well as writing and performing. Have a great day.

This is old fantastic Nightwish. I loved them that time. One of thei best songs - last albums ae far from this level. On of the few theirongs with gothic vibe. BTW: many Toumas`lyrics efee to "Dead Boy" which to me is "Dead inner child".

@@TheWolffAndTheMelody yes, I've been well, just working crazy hours and sleeping and then doing it all over again the next day and the next. She's still not 100%, but she has hired a 2nd assistant manager to relieve the both of us. Idk if the pollen has hit hard yet in W.Va. since you're a bit farther north, but it is crazy mad down here in NC.... even people without allergies are getting knocked down with it. I've been alternating Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra and just plain old Benadryl... I think alternating like that is actually helping more than just sticking with one thing, aside from that I am doing very well. I hope you are doing well too ❤️

This shows that this is a really skilled band with an amazing sound. They create an incredible acoustic experience. Maybe I should give her classic voice the same try over again's as I did with the growls. Maybe I'll find the connection. So far it didn't work. But good choice! ❤

🎶My home is far but the rest it lies so close
With my long lost love under the black rose
You told I had the eyes of a wolf
Search them and find the beauty of the beast
All of my songs can only be composed of the greatest of pains
Every single verse can only be born of the greatest of wishes
I wish I had one more night to live🎶

Oh, how did I miss this!!! Beauty of the Beast is my most beloved Nightwish song, it's so full of longing and love and anger and despair, and it's so... raw ❣🫀
around the time of the Century Child album Tuomas said that he felt like Tarja could see into his thoughts and soul in a way that felt scary because of the way she interpreted his lyrics, and Tarja also said she and Tuomas didn't see each other often but when they did to work on the songs, it was intensive -- this is *the* song for me that reflects that, it's vulnerable and it's perfection.

Thanks for getting to this as close to my birthday as possible given the ring light shenanigans 😂I don't know all that much about your past situations (just what you've said on the channel) but I had a feeling the lyrics here might strike home a bit, hopefully it wasn't in a bad way 😅
Personally I view this as a predecessor of sorts towards Ghost Love Score. This song deals with the narrator feeling love towards someone else but the narrator also feels they are not deserving of love in return. I think that's backed up by a lot of the lyrics, especially with "you told I had the eyes of a wolf, search them and find the beauty of the beast" like they're asking for the other person to see through their badness. Ghost Love Score then deals with the death of a romance, possibly the same one in reference here. I honestly think I like this song more than Ghost Love Score as the lyrics and atmosphere (the heavy bass and almost haunting atmosphere) is more up my alley. In particular, I think the section from 6:08-7:17 of this video is one of the best ~1 minute segments in their entire discography, the entire band is perfectly on point to do that buildup so well.
This song comes from Century Child which is my favorite NW album to this day, it has a totally different vibe to nearly all of their other releases and should be heard in full at some point :)

Just about my favourite Nightwish song, underrated in their repertoire as I don't ever see it on their live play list. Probably impossible to give it justice live, given its orchestral and choral complexity...and yet they manage this with ghost love score?

Another NW gem from long ago. Agree the lyrics and songwriting was excellent as always. I prefer NW live performances but I'm starting to get familiar with the studio versions as well, there are little touches in them that get lost or buried in a live performance. HB @phoenixaki3458
