Mawile and the Ralts line. Mostly because of design. They're pretty much the main reason why I don't think I'd be able to make a "Favourite Pokemon of Each Type" table. I just love these fairies too much. ...well, that and my crippling inability to make decisions. 😅
Sableye, the aaron line, wailord, and so many more. I usually have to go with themed runs to scratch those itches. I do like mudkip, I think gamefreak put in wishcash as a budget mudkip in case people made the mistake of not picking the right starter. However, I always have more fun playing the torchic line
I haven't composed a top 10 Hoenn Pokémon list (but I could certainly say a few who'd be on there) but I'm pretty certain my favourite Hoenn Pokémon would be Aron. It's funny how that came to be, as young me picked Aron to be nothing but a HM-user as I waited to find and obtain a Castform. Aron would ironically replace Castform and become my Ace... even with Rock Smash stuck on it's move-set.
I always appreciated having Gardevoir. I called it the “panic button” for my Hoenn teams. It’s quite simple: 1. Bring in Gardevoir 2. Use calm mind 1-3 times 3. Use Psychic/Thunderbolt 4. Win Gardevoir is kind of what I imagined using Alakazam in Gen 1 was like 😂
I remember thinking Swampert was the coolest starter ever. Water/Ground was such a great defensive typing, and he hits really hard for a “bulky” water type. Makes the 1st half of Emerald extremely easy. Very reliable even without a type advantage in the 2nd half.
In my first nuzlocke of emerald, I got disappointed when my encounter was a gulpin on route 110. I went into the brawly fight and when I got the makuhita to low health, I was freaking out because I knew it had reversal. I sent out my level 12 gulpin to take the incoming reversal, and it lived with over half hp. And then it somehow outsped the makuhita and was able to yawn it. It then died to the next attack and to this day I regret not levelling up that gulpin because if I did, I would have not only been able to save the gulpin, but also my wingull who died later in the fight. That memory gave me more respect for gulpin and swalot then I would have ever imagined.
Vaguely reminds me of how, in my first Gold playthrough, my HM mule Psyduck somehow tanked Jasmine's Steelix's Iron Tail really well despite being underleveled and my other team members getting destroyed by the same move.
I can't choose between the 3, but all fully evolved starters of Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert from the generation wins my heart in any way possible. They're strong, cool looking, and down-right memorable for as far as starters go and to form together as the best starter trio of all time. I would be damned if Game Freak ever tries to make another starter trio that could be better than this or at least just as good for there is no way in topping them.
Would have been nice if it got that Dragon typing before it's mega. Made sense too since it could already learn dragon claw. It would probably be too OP though haha
I had a Ludicolo in an ORAS nuzlocke. Had one member set up Sunny Day and she Solar Beam'd half of Steven's team into the shadow realm. Needless to say, this got full respect from me. Ludicolo's now my all time favorite Pokemon, go figure.
Grumpy!! This was a fantastic top 10 and was super enjoyable. Love the blend of nostalgia, expertise, and comedy that you have in your videos. Thank you for all the time you put in ^_^
Top 5 for RSE 1. Breloom: Love the Pokemon version of Yoshi 2. Sableye: Such a unique gem (I'll see myself out) & my 1st RSE Shiny 3 & 4 Swampert & Sceptile 5. Flygon: Pokemon with 3 Typings practically, which is amazing
This was a very respectable list. This is my first time seeing your channel. You seem like a very chill person. I absolutely love that walrein is in second place. The spheal line is my favorite line in any pokemon game. Also, although I prefer torchic, the mudkip line is AWESOME.
Ninacada and its evolutions definitely would make it onto my list. Love the ninja bugs and their weird double evolution, plus Ninjask just being fast as heck and Shedinja with its weird ability and only 1 HP. Shiny hunting nincada is also nice, it's a 2 for 1 deal!
My top 3 fave Hoenn pokemon 3. Tropius 2.Torchic Line 1. Breloom Gen 3 has such a great design that really married Gen 1 & 2, plus the move pools became more diverse. Breloom being on your list made me super happy as that pokemon also made me love grass types 💚
I was wrong about Breloom making it to Top 3. :/ The day I will use Metagross for the first time will be the day I will achieve true happiness. Such an awesome Pokemon. On the other hand, you made me dread the League even more than I already was (as I'm nuzlocking Ruby, not Emerald. granted, it's going at the speed of Munchlax, but hey, I'll get there eventually!). 7:47 Uh-oh! Someone forgot to cut out the white in the middle! 😅 10:58 Aww yeah, I was right about one 'mon! :D
A simple video idea but always a fun one to make and to see, I wonder if any of my favourites will allign with yours; let's find out. 0:50 - That's a shame for the future, guessing you're not a fellow Kricketune fan then. Hoenn and it's bugs are an odd one for me. I never really gelled well with any of them at first, despite Bug types being my favourite type. I've come to appreciate them, particularly Amarldo, but Hoenn is also home to my least favourite Bugs in the form of Volbeat and Ilumise. Great you had the example of Duxtox taking on Norman's Slaking in video form for this. 2:11 - Given your thoughts on Sableye through the recent videos, I'm unsurprised to see him make the list. It's always nice to discover a new favourite and a real surprise when it's through an older already played game (I was surprised to find out how much fun Hitmonlee and Weepinbell were to use when I revisited Yellow version a few years back). 6:07 - Isn't Metagross only available after you beat the Elite Four? I've rarely ever done post-game, an with an established team at that point, never really used one. Definitely cool design and I appreciate how it's a Pseduo-Legendary that isn't a dragon (rather common these days, despite how it didn't use to be). 9:34 - I've come to like Gulpin and Swalot more of the years. They are Pokémon's own take on the traditional JRPG slime archetype and that's neat. 13:52 - What do you mean by this one; Marshstomp is the best design of this Hoenn Water starter line. It's funny how it took to the very end of the video to encounter a Pokémon that I'd likely have on my own top 10 list as well, but I'm happy to see we agree on one Pokémon here.
I'm so happy that you started your journey with the third generation, it's my absolute favourite generation by all means, like you, in a mix of nostalgia and personal taste. Good job with the channel, I'm loving the content. Do you think you will start lurking into emerald ROMs like ROWE or kaizo etc after you mastered the vanilla?
I agree with you that Metagross is both awesome and scary. Ever since I discovered it in Ruby, it has become one of my favorites Pokemon ever. However, my all time fav is Butterfree. Loving it since I played for the first time.
Breloom was a real surprise fave for me- I'm usually not a fan of fighting types, but I always like having a leech seed mon on my team, and then suddenly I was just bulking up and mach punching everything I came across. Wheeee! Mudkip, on the other hand, was not a surprise at all. I love water types, the later ground typing is awesome and the design is adorable. Even before I played Emerald, I knew mudkip was going to be my favorite starter and i was correct.
Gen 3 wasn’t the first Pokémon I played, but it was the first Pokémon game I owned. My dad’s GIRLFRIEND asked me randomly one day if I wanted a gameboy advance. I was a bit confused, even though I was 9. Who just randomly offers kids to buy games, let alone handhelds and consoles, let alone calling them by their CORRECT NAMES! I thought it a joke and hesitantly said yes. Ended with me playing Sapphire and BOY did it change my life! 😂😊 I will never forget the day I randomly discovered the underwater cave that led to the Regi line adventure. Id learned and could read braille at the end of it, literally 😂. I owned all 3 versions at some point or another, and still have my copy of emerald to this day. Thanks for these videos. They are now pure nostalgia for me and immense joy at 30yrs old. P.S. Gen 3 Starters are arguably the best, Gen 2’s being a strong competitor. I love all 3 because I spent so much of my childhood playing with all 3 starters. But Treekco is probably my favorite 😎🍃
Among my favorites are Relicanth, Wailord, Armaldo and especially Absol! Relicanth really stood out to me when I found it underwater for the first time, and I just thought it was so cool. I still think it is, plus it is decently powerful. The latter three were all part of my very first nuzlocke team. I fished up a Wailmer after a massacre against Tate & Liza, which left me with no Water types. So I grabbed the Super Rod and fished up a Wailmer at the beach. Named her Parky. She was the HM mule and had 4 HMs in her moveset against the League. She took on Wallace's Milotic by herself with Rock Smash and Strength, she won. A frickin' legend. Armaldo, which I named Carrapax, definitely didn't put in as much work despite being in the team from way earlier. Still, I liked it for some reason, and I still do. Ridiculously useless? Yes. Ridiculously cool? Also yes. And Absol, was already something of my favorite Pokémon before my first nuzlocke. When i randomly grabbed one in a random playthrough, it became the ace of my team, slashed things back and forth. And when I found one in my nuzlocke, things happened. Named him Edge, became the leader of my team. Saved me from wiping against Tate & Liza. In victory road i found out he could learn Ice Beam, and slayed Drake's dragons soon after, and put in some serious work against Wallace even. Cool design, cool dex entries, weirdly weak yet absurdly strong, I LIKE Absol.
I'll never forget the first time I saw a Metagross, back when I first played Ruby blind battling Steven. You didn't get even a mention of any Pokémon related to it up to that point, I had no idea how to attack that thing or what it could do.
For me my favorite gen 3 in no particular order. Blaziken/Swampert Absol "really cool design" Metagross "isn't obvious? Lol" Aggron "because it looked damn cool" Tropius "Love it's design to death, sad that it sucks so much 😔" Ludicolo "Thank You Mirror B." Ralts evo line "Great Pyschic types with a ton of coverage" Salamance/ Flygon "Good Designs overall" Zangoose "idk what it was about Zangoose that won me over right from the start." Eon Duo "Really cool airplaine-like design and a good moveset overall.
@@pablodelgado7919 mine has a really handy movepool. Earthquake, Solarbeam, Steel Wing and Fly. Most of which are physical attacks to make full use of that stat
@@pablodelgado7919 Earthquake and Solarbeam gives it coverage against Rock types, Steel Wing gives it coverage against Ice types (it’s high speed ensures it strikes first) and Fly gives it coverage against Flying types. So that’s all weaknesses covered
Mawhile and Minun. And Ninjask are the 3 not on this list that I’d add. Minun and Ninjask have been staples for me since my original run of sapphire. Mawhile was a later one, but I used one in Ultra Sun on a whim, and that guy (I named it Durandal) carried my team. What a beast. Also it can Mega evo. Which isn’t important to base gen 3, but for the remakes it matters a bit.
I really like what I think of as the non-legendary groudon and kyogre equivalents: Camerupt and Sailors. Their designs are great and they work so well with eruption and water spout which are fun moves in my opinion. Granted they aren't the best Pokémon, but seeing these behemoths hit the field always seemed intimidating and exciting.
When nuzlocking, torkoal and hariyama have felt SO useful. They never go down and dish out good damage. Extremely reliable. Also I know they are not gen 3 but oddish, crobat and voltorb lines are saw Under rated yet so useful in Hoenn
@@grumpygengar22 Coming just before Winona, immediate access to Thunderbolt, extremely fast, and plenty of chances to level up clearing water routes. Completely underrated. Crobat never dies, he's suprisingly tanky. And oddish is very, very useful against Brawly and Watson. Probably not your most intuitive choice, but it is damn effective
Thanks to Hoenn, my #1, Manectric was born. I can’t stop thinking about how unique it’s design is and while I do agree with some peeps how it may look like an unconventional dog which may leave the design a tad open ended (I’ve heard peeps say lion, cat, or even being based on a mandrill, heck, I confused it for a duck when I saw it’s back sprite in SoulSilver) but to me personally, that’s what makes me attached to it. There’s nothing like it, you’ll see it stick out of a crowd. The colors also pop out to me using primary colors to convey electrical colors, and it’s shiny being black and yellow helps its cool factor.
Ooh so many my top 10 would have to be: 1. Sharpedo 2. Aggron 3. Camerupt 4. Seviper 5. Breloom 6. Dusclops 7. The Regi-Trio 8. Dustox 9. Lunatone 10. Sailors Honourable Mentions: Pelipper, Groudon, Swampert, Crawdaunt and Swellow
Swampert, Breloom, Metagross, Cradily are my favorites. Swampert because it's water/ground type is amazing and has a cool design Breloom because it has insane attack like 130 base attack is insane and also my favorite grass type. Metagross because it has insane stats, gains meteor mash, and has the best design of all the pseudo legends. Cradily because it's cool design and it's a really good defensive mon and is criminally underrated for how good it is. It funny to me that my four favorite pokemon in hoenn all have amazing designs which is probably why I like them so much.
Gardevoir is awesome! Between Calm Mind, Psychic, and Thunderbolt, there’s really nothing it can’t beat. I never was able to get Alakazam due to no trade partner so Gardevoir was an awesome pick for me.
I love the Gardevoir line too! I still remember playing Emerald for the first time (which was like 5 years ago) and yelling "Confusion!" every time my Ralts used the move. Ahh, good memories. _(although I will neither confirm nor deny that a big reason why I started and kept liking Gardevoir was because of what internet did to it)_
I wanted a Milotic so bad as a kid but was too dumb to go on the internet to find out how to get it so I wasted hours looking for feebas and never found one :(
You gave some good ideas here How about what lanturn evolves into: a special attack poke with electric/water with electric absorb & it takes icebeam I call it my dragon killer
I just love my Tropius. Such a cool design and obviously having bananas hanging around his neck is very appropriate for me. It sucks that he's pretty terrible gameplay wise, but I always make room for him on my teams.
When i see shedinja for the first time, it's been my favorite pokemon since Idk, bug and ghost typing. Excuse me!!! And wonder guard as ability, OMG!!! Sad that it got pretty bad stat, if shedinja got buff in speed and attack it could be a decent pokemon tbh. Just toss those defense and sp defense stat away. You don't need it when you have freaking 1 hp😂 I would love to see this pokemon had another evolution. Give my boi a redemption arc🙏
He was on my very first gen 3 playthrough of Ruby. I thought Snorunt was super cute when I encountered it and then Glalie being so intimidating! I thought it was super cool. It also helped me defeat Drake with ice beam and with crunch it was good against phoebe. I nicknamed my Glalie after my mom in my playthrough and I just loved it
What are your favorite Pokémon from Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald?
Mawile and the Ralts line. Mostly because of design. They're pretty much the main reason why I don't think I'd be able to make a "Favourite Pokemon of Each Type" table. I just love these fairies too much.

@@roqeyt3566 Wailord’s low defence stat puts me off it. Just seems pointless to give it such a high HP but no bulk to back it up

Memes aside, it's a reliably good Pokémon in its Gen 3 debut. And had gotten way better once in Gen 6
And I also really like Gallade cause his (relatively) speedy Physical attacking style is damn good. Add in a Swords Dance and you're chilling.
I didn't realize how useful sword dance is!
Slash will 2-3 sword dances is scary (three maxs out phys attacks)

It was in contention for my #10 spot, very close.
Not a big fan of much of anything gen 3 related, but it did give us Duskull. I fell in love immediately all those years ago
Ooh so many my top 10 would have to be:
1. Sharpedo
2. Aggron
3. Camerupt
4. Seviper
5. Breloom
6. Dusclops
7. The Regi-Trio
8. Dustox
9. Lunatone
10. Sailors
Honourable Mentions:
Pelipper, Groudon, Swampert, Crawdaunt and Swellow
5 pokemon in my top 10 list are from my first playthrough team!
My favourite pokemon from Hoenn.
1. Sableye
2. Banette
3. Altaria
4. Absol
5. Manectric
6. Blaziken
7. Mawille
8. Flygon
9. Milotic
10. Aggron
Favourite region by far.
Swampert, Breloom, Metagross, Cradily are my favorites.
Swampert because it's water/ground type is amazing and has a cool design
Breloom because it has insane attack like 130 base attack is insane and also my favorite grass type.
Metagross because it has insane stats, gains meteor mash, and has the best design of all the pseudo legends.
Cradily because it's cool design and it's a really good defensive mon and is criminally underrated for how good it is.
It funny to me that my four favorite pokemon in hoenn all have amazing designs which is probably why I like them so much.
absolute W takes
Gardevoir is my top tier
Gardevoir is awesome! Between Calm Mind, Psychic, and Thunderbolt, there’s really nothing it can’t beat.
I never was able to get Alakazam due to no trade partner so Gardevoir was an awesome pick for me.
I love the Gardevoir line too! I still remember playing Emerald for the first time (which was like 5 years ago) and yelling "Confusion!" every time my Ralts used the move. Ahh, good memories.
_(although I will neither confirm nor deny that a big reason why I started and kept liking Gardevoir was because of what internet did to it)_
i love ur videos grumpus gengar. thank you
I wanted a Milotic so bad as a kid but was too dumb to go on the internet to find out how to get it so I wasted hours looking for feebas and never found one :(
I also love Mudkip as my favorite starter of all time and I don’t think that will ever change
1: Mightyena, 2:Aggron line, 3: Torkoal, and my #4 honorable mention is Grumpig
I love that Torkoal is in there! Definitely has grown on me in recent years
10:49 “Swalot is old reliable”. Proceeds to switch him out because he’s losing to a Ground type…
Haha I know it looks bad, but that was actually a clutch moment for him with that Toxic setup
@@grumpygengar22 yeah I know man. Sorry, I was just taking the piss 😂
In fact, thanks to you i like Dustox even more 👁️👄👁️
You gave some good ideas here
How about what lanturn evolves into: a special attack poke with electric/water with electric absorb & it takes icebeam
I call it my dragon killer
I just love my Tropius. Such a cool design and obviously having bananas hanging around his neck is very appropriate for me. It sucks that he's pretty terrible gameplay wise, but I always make room for him on my teams.
It's definitely grown on me recently
When i see shedinja for the first time, it's been my favorite pokemon since
Idk, bug and ghost typing. Excuse me!!! And wonder guard as ability, OMG!!!
Sad that it got pretty bad stat, if shedinja got buff in speed and attack it could be a decent pokemon tbh. Just toss those defense and sp defense stat away. You don't need it when you have freaking 1 hp😂
I would love to see this pokemon had another evolution. Give my boi a redemption arc🙏
You ever consider doing a catch em all challenge or something? I personally love completing the Pokedex in these old games.
I've thought about it, and it's not off the table, but it probably wouldn't happen for a while.
As a kid i gave my spheal an everstone because he was just so cute!
Ludicolo love, automatic like
Swampert is the best Pokémon of all time. Absolute top tier choice.
:D
Delphox ties with Swampert for the highest BST of starters.
Damn really? I thought he was on his own. I just assumed after Gen 3 that they started making all the starters equal
5. Swampert
4.Flygon
3. Salamence
2. Metagross
1.Blaziken
Mudkip line carrys all day
Milotic in the top 10 faves. Very easy pick.
Blaziken
Glalie
Feebas
Shiftry
Metagross
Swampert
Rayquaza
Zigzagoon
Zangoose
Swellow
This is a great list! What's the story behind Glalie? It's a really unique pick that I don't see on many top 10 lists so I'm curious!
He was on my very first gen 3 playthrough of Ruby. I thought Snorunt was super cute when I encountered it and then Glalie being so intimidating! I thought it was super cool. It also helped me defeat Drake with ice beam and with crunch it was good against phoebe. I nicknamed my Glalie after my mom in my playthrough and I just loved it
Aron line are my number one favorite
I think Gen 3 has the best new Pokémon.
Love Wailrein
I love Blaziken because I love KFC XD
XD
I wish May got Dustox in the anime instead of Jesse
the worst thing about hoenn is that you cant have metagross for your journey
Did flygon dirty
He's another one that's probably right outside the top 10.
@@grumpygengar22 blasphemy
He should try emerald kaizo
Someday
Wailrein is a better Dewgong
Yeesssssss
Pikachu? Charizard?
Oh brother
I just remembered that Pikachu is actually in these games.
