Thank you so much. How much force did you need with the pry bar? To break the alternator loose? I am going to be doing this soon to fit a new thermostat. I also need to replace a faulty injector. Could I replace the one piece stat by just removing the inlet manifold, and leaving the alternator in situ?
Thank you for this. I'm replacing the second coolant temp sensor behind the alternator. Incredibly someone buried it it there. Whoever designed this car must be a complete moron. Even the simplest things are hard to get to.
Hey great video. I just replaced a thermostat on my 08 GTI and I'm having trouble getting the alternator back in. Any tips on how to easily get it back in? It's kind of a pain with really no room. Did I miss something I was suppose to remove ?
Brian Vetrano either on the alternator or on the bracket that the alternator bolts up to you there's an adjustable bushing that move side to side. You may have to tap that pushing left or right to create more room. The bushing will be made out of metal not rubber.
@@AUDIDOIT took a lot of time and man power. Most of all it took patience. You gotta get it back in at the right angle and wiggle it it in there and eventually it should go back in. Best of luck dude.
Have a quick question, when changing the belt. If I buy a new tensioner pulley to replace the old one does it have to be adjusted at all/in anyway or can I just put it straight on??
Ryan Brookie when Volkswagens have charging system problems or battery issues you can get all kinds of fault codes. I recommend clearing them after replacing the alternator and if anything comes back then Address the issues.
Semi-helpful. Perhaps an actual real time (or speed up) removal and installation would have been more appropriate for 1st timers. Merely talking through a mechanical procedure lowers the overall effect of a confident succession. It is fortunate that this was just an alternator removal/installation and not a timing belt type of operation.
Awesome video, quick and to point without a lot lip smacking.
Hey man even till this day it helped a lot

Thanks for the video! That looked... Easy... How would you rate the difficulty of that out of 1-10? Thanks again!
are there certain marking when putting on the serpentine belt? or just make sure it’s lined up with the ridges

Brian Vetrano I am at the same point on my 08 Passat. Can’t get alternator back on. Bushings won’t move.
Brian how did you get the alternator on in the end mate? I am going to be doing a stat change soon. Cheers.

I'm replacing my alternator in my 2007 2.0t fsi gti on Saturday, thanks for the DIY are there any codes that pop up after installation?

The belt that you take off at 1:52, is that the timing belt?
it is the serpentine belt..
