Best review I’ve watched in ages. As an owner of an LC500 and LX570 (and an old LX470 with over 300k on the clock) - I think you simply nailed it. Pissed myself laughing a few times and loved your wrap up. Nice work 👌🏻
I found this car to look better in person than in images. Yes, it is a fairly heavy and no, it's not going to beat a McLaren. But it looks fantastic, has a fantastic fast-revving NA V8, and has interior quality and comfortable ergonomics that are better than most things on the road. Plus, unlike a McLaren or Aston Martin, the maintenance costs will be relatively affordable. I think it was Motor Trend that did a side by side with a new DB11 and concluded that LC500 was not far off the musclebound but sexy Aston at a much lower price. And it is made in the same plant used for LFA.
Great review. Only one "correction". As the guy who signed off the bills for the shoot of the yellow car, I'm delighted to confirm it cost a fraction of what you thought, but very glad you liked it and thought it of such high production value. (BTW it was made by and for the Lexus UK social media team. No ad agencies were involved.)
Who else needs an hour on the couch after listening to this guy string hundreds of words together without so much as a break to breathe.😳....don't get me wrong, I love my cars ..but ! there's only so much my brain can cope with..lol.
Thanks for the review. As for who drives this kind of car. I'm just the average guy who enjoys the experience of the car while being a complete donkey behind the wheel. I'm quite possible the slowest driver at the race track when in the LC :D
Had the privilege to review one of these myself, stunning machine but its not as hard edged as you'd think, Lexus struck a well balanced compromise to make it an athletic grand tourer rather than a raring to go track monster.
Thats exactly what I did last year. My 2013 ISF is an absolute beast. Ive also owned a 2012 IS350. Dont waste your money on an IS250, they are gutless.
That's what I did when it was time to upgrade my 2012 money pit euro car. I tried some 2016+ regular Japanese/Korean cars, then i test drove a 2010 IS350 which was around the same price. It took about 30 seconds to decide i needed the Lexus, it just drives so good as a complete package rather than driving a floating boat which all the other cars felt like. The added bonus is that the car doesn't look fast, so I have fun with those wankers who change lanes at traffic lights which merge into 1 lane in 50 meters with the hope they will try and squeeze me out. It doesn't go well for them :)
Congrats man, this is the type of review that puts you above the rest. It has your humor, a very very cool car,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and I even learned something.
I found a way to make driving a Toyota Corolla exciting this week. The trick was to let it suddenly develop an electrical short in the engine wiring harness and burst into flames on the interstate highway at full speed, while instantly losing all electronic devices. First time it was exciting and I was truly happy with something it had done.
Hey John You should remind subscribers the rotary dial for the Sports modes is where the wiper controls for VN Commodores were placed. Just in case it’s their other (daily?) drive. 😂
Really enjoy your reviews and your real world perspectives with a unique humor added on top. The LC is one of my all time favorite cars, even with the C8 Corvette out
Exhaust Sports Auto I actually have the c8 deposit and planning on cancelling it. I purchased the lc500 a couple days ago and do not regret it one bit. It's the perfect car.
Not since I first saw a Aston Martin Vantage V8 in the flesh over 10 years ago, have I thought - that's the most beautiful car I've ever seen, until I saw a Lexus LC500 in the flesh... And they sound just as good 😍😈
Don’t have to be a dude to own an LC. This dudette loves her LC. I’m the niche and probably not who you think I am. Yes, I know how to drive that car; yes, people ask me about it everywhere I go; yes, it’s amazing. My LC’s name is Persephone. Totally unbelievably well built machine. Great review!!
Videos don’t do that car justice. When you see it in the flesh it makes the ze equivalent priced German cars look like appliances on wheels. (Never thought it say that about a Lexus).
I’ve been waiting for this review for ages fat man, outstanding. I think I just walked past a mailbox and impregnated it. Lexus really have kicked a huge go al with this car.
John, once again I find that our minds work similarly. Dilbert’s cubicle indeed. The Snoopy of modern times and the definitive thinker’s humour. If you weren’t exactly half a world away, I would hug you. PS. Entirely share your opinion on the cr*pness of non-AMG MERCS. Therefore, I just bought an old AMG. Probably because I like hurting myself. Have to love that supercharger though.
Hi John, As always - love the reviews from here in the UK. As I was watching, I thought I recognised the location where that Lexus LC advert was shot - Cabot Circus Shopping Centre car park as it happens (in my home city of Bristol). Can I ask if you're likely to do a review of the new Honda Civic any time soon (I'm looking to change cars next spring, and I very much like the look of it - the reviews I've seen so far here in Blighty are rather mixed bag, so would appreciate your views). Fine work, as always - and I love the "beer garden physics - especially as I'm an aerospace engineer - so understanding cars a bit better from an engineering perspective is quite enjoyable (I'm strange that way). Please do keep up the fine work. Timothy Hall
Great review John, thank you muchly! Always wondered about that odd looking Lexus creation. I've seen two of them, both around the Hills area here but not often at all. Maybe one was yours! Hey, we didn't hear you take it thought a tunnel, windows down, on full song!
Great review and explanations John, fantastic. The word "niche" couldn't be more apt,the Ferrari/Lamborghini buyers arn't even going to look at it,the German brigade will but only to sneer at it with their misguided snobbery, and the Camaro/Mustang guys are going to find it too expensive and not "cool" enough and to make matters worse it's expensive even next to Nissan GT's and other Japanese performance vehicles.
What an awesome machine. I loved the circular graphic and the race car driver analogy. In the mid 90's I used to regularly frequent a go cart track at Mulgrave near Windsor. Late one night I had the pleasure of being the only other person on the track with Alan Grice. Our lap times were even Stevens(give or take) and he complimented me at the end of the session. You , he and I all know however how I would have gone chasing him around Bathurst in a touring car. I'd be in the wall just after Skyline. That is if I'd managed to negotiate The Cutting and Reid/McPhillamy. I learned the hard way years ago that I'm no Dick Johnson. That car would laugh at me. cheers John.
Twelve years ago, then mine BMW e60 had strut towers carved by samurai as well. It took a while for Lexus to copy that solution. It also had silky smooth, very economical, naturally aspirated 6 cylinder engine with 275hp. Not bad for family daily car back then.
This car looks and sounds great. But in term of sound, nothing compares to the best Lexus ever made : the all mighty LFA. It was the best sounding car ever made.
So nice to see you enjoying a Toyota for a change John. See this is why there the best. Lexus is what Toyota can do when people will pay for it. That said there more cost effective Toyota counterparts do represent good value for money with amazing features, eg the handling of the 86 or if you can afford it, the performance of the all new Supra. All I can say and I can see you feel it is 'Oh what a feeling Toyota/Lexus'. 😀
Morning John, an excellent graphic representation of how the average driver loses control of a high-performance automobile, love that graph. I used to call this the 9/11 Porsche paradox... The driver entering a high speed turn saying... "I got it...I got it... I got it... oh my God. " I had this experience transitioning from front engine rear wheel drive, underpowered British shitboxes to a rear engine Carrera. My one and only 360 degree rotation was a graphic lesson too. As for the LC....I wish it had four doors...and represented the evolution of the M5 only from Toyota. And never in Yellow. Larry PS your bullshit hack for engine power efficiency better than the old horsepower per liter. Excellent.
Not this particular car but there's kits for the RC F and GS F with the same motor...which can pump out something like 570 wheel hp at the bare minimum. Lol. That and these sound absolutely mental with a straight through exhaust.
Digging up fossils... dear John, would it be possible for you to review RC F - this is a kind that soon will become extinct (impossible to order a new one in Europe already) and I'd love to hear your opinion. BTW, nice pointer.
The difference between an average joe a pro driver both Camerys would be a lot more than you suggest, how you take corners make such a big difference. I think the point your missing with a car like this LC is control and braking. The grip level is so much higher than a normal car. In normal driving situations when things get a little crazy its a lot easier to keep the car under control, like being able to swerve around an obstacle and not loose control. Then the brakes, the stopping distance is much shorter than the average car. This can and will get you out of trouble. On both points picked this up from experience. I have done track days and seen what good drivers can do with very modest cars. For the second first hand driving personal cars with similar performance as the lc albeit less hp but slightly more lateral grip and shorter braking than it by a little bit. In the end you get left with why aren't all cars this good, I had no idea before driving them.
Funny i thought it was a Higgins wondering if had time to catch Shoprite before closing time.....and pick up some breakfast kippers ...will need to push on a bit get the "Ben" on the steam racket .
Hi John - you mentioned we can't calculate BBMEP across atmo and forced induction engines. I have been told in the past that turbo and NA engines can be compared by working out the effective swept volume based on boost pressure - so a 2.5L forced induction engine that runs 14.7psi of boost is effectively the same as a 5.0L NA engine (because in the end, the volume of fuel that can be burned, and thus power produced, is based on the amount of oxygen available for burning. Can this not be applied to the BBMEP calculations? Thanks!
John, I would like to see you do a report on how much electricity production would have to increase to electrify the entire automotive fleet. I suspect it's entirely unfeasible or, at the very least, would take decades to achieve. Perhaps some numbers for Australia, Europe and North America would be in order.
John, after seeing this review, and other vids of your channel, I really really really would love to see you review an Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio. (19.96 BS units - I know turbo doesn’t compare with atmo, but still 375kw from 2.9L is astounding). How ‘bout it??? Love to see how the LC 500 compares with the significantly cheaper and more practical Alfa....
Can they do something about the front grill. Everything's awesome and then spoiled by that black widow spider shaped hour glass grill. What were they thinking?
Yes lovely car!!!!!But after a bit of research 4WSteer etc are an extra for 15G still OK but where is the spare, does it actually have one?It appears Run Flats are it!!! Am I wrong John?I have had run flat Pirellis for the last 7 years and have had more punctures with them than the previous 40 years of driving!Imagine trying to purchase a 21" Run Flat 100+Ks from a rural town...it only has a range of 80Ks once flat!
5:35 - you have no idea how right you are. Thanks to a brain tumor, I have no "accelerometer" in my left ear. It now takes so much more cognitive ability just to keep my head up straight, that a loud noise can knock me off balance.
Mmmmm. If I had the coin, I would have already dropped it. Love that noise! Motor Trend have a great video on their channel where you can hear the exhaust on a closed road through the canyons. So good!
The Palazzo Versace? AHHH you got me all excited with that french accent. I immediately thought you were referencing the cult video C'etait un Rendezvous in which a crazy Ferrari driver races across Paris in the dawn light to rendezvous with a bird at a lookout. Now I find that the Palazzo Versace is some poxy flee ridden dive in, as you said, Sodom and Gomorrah. The film is by Claude Lelouch. The publisher is Spirit Level film. Do you know it? You're the right vintage. I used Google Earth to follow the route and record the streets of Paris driven down. The engine noise of the Ferrari is awesome.
Th handing break point being so sudden reminds me of the Porsche 911 series they give a false sense confidence in from Denver Colorado and finding out you have crossed that live firing a tight canyon road is no fun granita on one side and air on the other steep learning curve
John's up that river in Egypt... regarding EVs... He started criticizing my spelling n grammar when I started asking the tricky questions... EVs are going to be the future, simply cause Government Legislation is forcing car manufacturers to go down that road. Aussie will have no option due to ICEs been disrupted by EVs... think of the depreciation of ICE cars by 2025...
@@peterlattimore6013 we can vote the government out and prove the climate scaremongers wrong. EV.s are not long haul and definitely not heavy haul. Bullshit goes a long way, much further than intelligence should allow. I suspect there are a lot of people protecting their jobs by not actually telling the truth. Check out the Sydney Water salt to fresh osmosis plant that cost $6 B and never operational and the list goes on. Have a great life.
Best review I’ve watched in ages. As an owner of an LC500 and LX570 (and an old LX470 with over 300k on the clock) - I think you simply nailed it. Pissed myself laughing a few times and loved your wrap up. Nice work 👌🏻
Looking forward to buying one of these when I can afford it...second-hand in 2034.
Matt Farah's million mile LC 500?
I reckon we'll have auto driving cars by then... Unfortunately
But in 2034 you'll then have to sell a kidney for a tank of fuel.
That's the plan!
@donkey ass reviews and do's So i'm guessing it will have about 10mill kays on the clock? At least they don't have a DPF
Picked one up today, thanks Tamiya.

Got an autoart version

An excellent review of I car beyond my means but I still want one . You have done your job well John .
It's gonna depreciate and you're gonna own one someday bc it's a lexus and it lasts forever.

100% - in the flesh it looks heaps better. Videos and pics just don’t seem to do it justice.
This is the nicest, classiest, highest quality car you have ever driven, and perhaps the nicest you ever will!
Those strut towers are ribbed for his pleasure.
Beautiful. Hadn’t even thought of that.

The movie claimed Ferrari but in reality was a 6.9 liter Mercedes sedan. Merry Christmas.
@@concernedcitizen8665 Thanks for that correction. It is a really interesting film. A merry Oct 4 to you.
You, EngineeringExplained and savagegeese should do a show together ;) maybe some scotty kilmer for the wrenching
If I'm winner of $100millions lotto, I might get one. Or I will get the fully modified, fully armored 4wd.
Pssst, 2020 LC 500C!
Good to see you doing your "bit" for physics John....... :)
BRUTAL GT CAR 😎 PERFECT LEXUS 👌🏻 DREAM CAR 😍
I'll take the Yrump edition Mustang and pocket the change thanks, John
Th handing break point being so sudden reminds me of the Porsche 911 series they give a false sense confidence in from Denver Colorado and finding out you have crossed that live firing a tight canyon road is no fun granita on one side and air on the other steep learning curve
Love it BU!
Nice man!!!!
I'm 7 minutes in and that camera angle makes it look like you can't see above the dashboard. It's very unnerving.
Hi John, As Tesla model 3 become available in Australia and what are you thoughts and advice on the EV cars
