Thank you for this great video, Im a Serbian guy and I lived in beijing for 4 and a half years and then i moved to Guangzhou, and my lovely city of Guangzhou is even more beautiful than Shenzhen. :) I lived in Serbia and New York and Berlin and Beijing and Phuket ( Thailand) and then San Francisco, then Beijing again and now in Guangzhou, and from all of these places I felt the best in the South of China! Nice weather, very super safe ( you can walk home at 5 am and nobody will even look at you ) very nice salary, low cost of living, excellent health system that is also very cheap ( not like in the US). God bless China!

Japan is very old fashioned in many ways by today's standards, one thing that particularly suprise me is that, fax machine are still widely used, yes that buzzing dial tone paper feed piece of equipment.

    • @ExVeritateLibertas

Yeah and if you are a foreign visitor you cannot do anything with your phone. You cannot use WeChat or AliPay without a Chinese bank account and personal references already using the apps. You cannot access any of the non-communist non-Chinese internet, or even buy a train ticket from a machine without a Chinese citizen ID. You can only pay cash and many vending machines, shops and restaurants do not take cash or western credit cards.
Japan is remarkably resistant to abandoning cash payments and has a few other idiosyncrasies, but it also an open, free democratic country and not a totalitarian police state that makes it as difficult as possible for foreign visitors.

as a Chinese, let me tell you that we never ever fear when we see the police or securities. I don't know why the Western people always saying that they are not comfortable when they see the Chinese police. Maybe that is your perception towards the police in your country. The Chinese police never treat the people like the American pilice do to the black.

I have lived on and off in Shenzhen over the last 20 years and seen its growth explode. There are over one thousand parks in Shenzhen, from local hole in the wall plots to huge parks, like your video shows the Shenzhen Futian Central Park. Your shot of Huaqianbei shows what looks to be flowered ramps. Those are the entrances to the subways (3 lines) and an underground market place. You'll find many subway market places at subway stops. Some like Dongmen are huge, selling food, clothing, and even cars. Futian also has the largest underground high speed train station in Asia with subway and buses stopping there. Shenzhen always seems to be under construction, urban renewal is common and like you said, high rises seem to pop up like weeds. The thing great about almost all cities in China is there is a price for anyone. Hotels range from 3 star business hotels to 6 star international hotels. From street food to luxury dining, and Shenzhen has a strong international flavor like Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai. There is a saying: "if you stay in Shenzhen, you are a Shenzhener" meaning that Shenzhen has Chinese from all corners of China who come to Shenzhen to seek their fortune. The average age of a Shenzhener is said to be under 30 years of age. While English speakers are becoming more common, their English ends up Chinglish sometimes. English is taught in grade school and their English is better than most foreigners Chinese. Last I looked, there were ten undergraduate and graduate schools in Shenzhen. Beijing University, Tsinghua , and Southern University of Science and Technology have graduate schools. Even Georgia Tech has a campus in Shenzhen and UC Berkeley has a program teamed with Tsinghua. There were at least 10 Nobel Laureates calling Shenzhen home, last I looked.
Some added facts about Shenzhen are below:

If the central government did not lead the army to resist actively, how many people would not only lose their homes or even their lives, but also pretend to be there all day long. To clarify one thing: most "police" you filmed are actually local sercurity guards. Different uniform at all. And the policemen never wandering or sitting on streets like that. There are no that many polices to do that. As a police's salary and welfare are much better than a sercurity guard, which is not an easy job to get. Those sercurity guards do not take responsibility of political control. I don't think you need to worry about them at all. So communication is a key factor to understand another nation.

Shenzhen is truly a modern new city. With a population of 12 million inhibitants and an area enough to accumulate 5 times the present size.
No other other cities in the world could you find such up to date facilities as you find in Shenzhen. The city authority board has indeed did much
planning to bring about what you can find today. Nice road and traffic system just like Tokyo with lighting and road signs and markings to guide
drivers. The highway is free flow with no unsightly vehicles like Thailand pick-up trucks or the 12 wheels trailers. electirc scootors are kept the minimum, Buses and coaches are run by electricity. Taxis are standardized with only one made. Trees are planted around to make it like a garden city . Apartments are fully furnished to save occupants the trouble to renovate it. No wonder rich people flock to Shenzhen to enjoy a pleasant living free from the chaos of big cities.Oceon liners and cruisers could berth here. Airport also serves International flights.See Shenzhen yourself to convince you.

With.the age grows, and more news and videos I watched on youtube, it really makes me see clear about the western style propaganda. Shenzhen was founded 40 years ago and has developed from a small fishing village to a modern city. Thanks to the reform and opening-up policy, Shenzhen has received many special preferential policies from the central government without historical burden.
Because of its proximity to Hong Kong, it has also learned a lot of valuable experience from Hong Kong. Shenzhen has focused on developing high-tech industries and attracted high-tech talents from all over the country to work in Shenzhen. Civil servants have a relatively good sense of service, and now Shenzhen has become an example for other cities in China to learn from.
Shenzhen's success has proved the good governance ability of the government and the diligence and wisdom of the people. I hope that Shenzhen will become better and better. I hope that other backward areas, like Shenzhen, can make rapid progress.

18:48,Wrong information. Only line 4 is run by MTR Hong Kong and all other lines are run by Shenzhen Metro, eg. line 3 in the vide.
Besides, Shenzhen Metro is just called Shenzhen Metro, which is the operator of all lines except line 4. The MTR in Shenzhen is MTR Corporation (Shenzhen) and is the operator of line 4, which is the line that has the most problems and often got complained.
