  • Review of the MSR Gear Shed, which is an additional storage area that attaches to my MSR Elixir2 tent.
    The idea was to have one tent that I could expand from basic travel to having a base camp set up for a few days with the extra storage and cooking capability.
    It fits any MSR Elixir or Hubba tent series. Elixir 1,2 & 3, and Hubba NX, Hubba Hubba NX, Mutha Hubba NX.

    I'm a solo camper. I bought a Naturehike Hanger 2 Tent(White) and additional Gear Shed because I worried about theft when I sleeping at night and away from tent. Also prevents animals from catching garbage.
    You can store camping equipment and food in Gear shed from rain and theft.
    I love it very much😍

      Solo camping is great, do you also wild camping? I also have a MSR Elixir2 with additional gear shed for same reasons but have just recently got a Naturehike Opalus3 tunnel tent which is an excellent tent, lots of storage, can sit on my camping chair inside entrance part and it packs down quite small, Naturehike build some great tents at good value…all the best regards, Andrew

    Nice looking piece of kit! I don't think it's for me as I feel I have bags of space in my tent as it is, but definitely good to see it in action. Thanks for sharing!

      In truth I’m unlikely to use it that much as like yourself I think the Elixir2 is a roomy enough tent, but I can see using on the odd motorcycling weekend camping/walking trip if weather poor...probably not enough to justify having it 😂 👍🏻

    Love the fact that it's called a shed.
    Doesn't look like it adds much weight to the bike when on the move and would really make a base camp more usable for if you setup camp somewhere for a few days whilst exploring an area.

      Hi Carl, yes a funny name for a tent but I suppose it’s quite literal and says it as it is 😂 Although it has its own bag, you can dispense with that and just put it in the actual tent bag and weighs about 0.8kg. I’ll probably make a small additional groundsheet to put down inside the shed for really horrible weather.
      The more I consider it the more appreciative of the design I am, MSR apparently give excellent back up service and I have a lifetime replacement of damaged poles 👍🏻

      Hi Brad, thanks for that 👍🏻 yes, it’s a bit different and gives me flexibility if setting up a base camp for a few days, although I don’t think I’d use on a trip where I’m moving every day, so useful but I suppose not essential 😆

      By the way, we brought the Honda home on Tuesday. Weather here is terrible so I have been busy in the garage adding bits to the bike. Installed a SRC Moto brand rear rack and side stand foot enlarger. Very impressed with build quality and direct fitment. I also purchased a SRC skid plate. Looks very nice and allows the use of my centerstand. Will install that this weekend. Got a Quadlock for the bar by the windscreen for my phone and hard-wired power to that. I like it but my wife finds it distracting being so high up. If she insists I’ll add a bracket to the handlebar for her. I purchased Barkbusters too, but a piece was missing in the kit so I’m delayed on that install. I watched your video on how to remove the old bar ends. Worked a treat! I transferred over my wife’s Enduristan rear bag (holds her rain kit) and her Giant Loop tank bag. Perfect fit. I also coated all the surfaces on the bike with Optimum ceramic coating. Should make it much easier to clean. (I’m a car detailing fanatic so I have all the detailing products at hand, so why not!) Prepping everything is so much fun!

    I got the Elixir 1, which is the ideal size for me, mainly because I want to bike pack in the future, but I expected if I want to do a few days camping I’d need some storage, so I think based on what I’ve seen, I’ll pick it it up. Like you said, might bring a small ground sheet to cover up the gap atleast partially, with some space for boots. Cheers for the review!
    Edit: I might see if I can get a bike in the gear shed, could be useful.

    • @thecampingbiker791
      @thecampingbiker791  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest, for solo traveling I think the Elixir1 is the better option and the flexibility of extra storage with the gear shed makes it a perfect set up…indeed knowing what I now know I should have bought the Elixir1 👍🏻

      Thanks Rick, I rate the Naturehike tents very highly, having had a Cloud Up1 and I’ve now got the Cloud Up2, in Forest Green, but COVID has intervened with my winter camping plans! If I didn’t have the MSR I’d have bought a Mongar....thanks for commenting, it’s always good getting others views, keep safe regards Andrew 👍🏻

    With the gear shed slanting down towards the tent, do you see water come through the connection point of the tent fly and the shed?

    Vango do one for some of there smaller tents my m8 has 1 they r great especially if u have to shelter when weather gets nasty otherwise u would be confined to your own tent on r last trip we sat in his gear store 2 chairs & table for r beer & snacks 😉😊😊😊

      ‘Beer Tent’ sounds much better name for it John 😂 As you say, great idea for bad weather space, although the MSR version might be a bit low for getting seats in I’m going to try next time I use it (with a beer in hand of course) 😆

      Not done so but I absolutely know the Helinox Ground Chair would as I’ve had it in a lower inner than the gear shed.. I’ll come back to you once I get chance to check the standard chair 👍🏻

    Hi how small does the elixir 2 compress down to

    • @thecampingbiker791
      @thecampingbiker791  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Trevor, I use an Exped medium compression bag which lets me compress down about 30% of original pack size… I’m just away at moment or I’d measure up properly for you…..Just to give you an idea, here’s a link to the bags so you can see how it straps down 👍🏻
