    For painting the cowling, any bare metal finish looks real nice with a base of glossy black first. The bare metal color, whether aluminum, or a blend with a gun metal to achieve whatever shade desired can yield a nice finish, and the metal color can be lightly buffed to give it a polished look, even though aluminum oxidizes quickly, they did get cleaned up a bit and polished occasionally.
    The other thing that benefits the finish is an airbrush if possible. Allows multiple light coats evenly applied.
    They come in handy for all sorts of model building from plastic models to big rc models.
    Just a thought.

    Does anyone have any tips on how to evenly trim the cowl?

      I have a lot of success with a dremel rotary tool. Cut with scissors carefully first then use the small drum type sander. Good luck
