    If you look at the taillight lenses, and if they are original, they will have the year molded in. either " 48" "49" "50". This is true for all American cars up to the 1970s

    To each his own! I have enjoyed your 56 Caddy videos very much, but I would never have bought it for myself. The F1 and the 65 Mustang would be vehicles I would keep and fix. To me they are both beautiful.
    I was 8 when the Mustang came out. I don't remember the fastback Stang from then, but the notchback (coupe) was a huge hit, rather like the Taurus was in 1988? I think that's the year. The styling was totally different from previous cars for both of these Fords.

    This truck is an elegy to its time of building, now the better part of half-century ago. Then these sorts of vehicles were not built to last past the time they might serve as toys for the builder. They were not regarded as "restorations" in the sense we use the term today. But here, today, are some good bones for someone to use as parts or rebuild. I hope if it's "restored," that the work is done in the spirit of the first build.

    It does look like a pretty solid truck for being a 1948 F1. Definitely something good enough to restore if someone is young enough and has the time to restore it. I would say clear coat it and leave the old patina on it. Clear coating would even bring out the old pinstriping a bit as well. Good luck selling it I am sure someone will take it off your hands Ben.

  • @robpeacock4005

    The seats are from mid to late 70's TBird. Could be where the engine came from.

      @DanEBoyd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1975 engine? It would be from a truck then, since Ford stopped putting the FE big blocks in cars in 1971 or something like that.
      Manufacturers would keep older proven designs and components around in their truck lines for a few years after they stopped putting them in cars.

    1948 Ford F1 has stainless steel strips in the grill. It's the only one that has them. There are some small differences between the three years. If you know what to look for.

  • @gosportjamie
    @gosportjamie 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the bottom door hinge on the passenger side broke, so the bottom of the door swung forward and crunched into the back of the front wing/fender. That's really not too bad, as long as the frame of the door is relatively straight then it's not going to be difficult to cut the bottom off that skin then make up and fit a new section as it's quite a simple shape...

  • @IowaMercMan
    @IowaMercMan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think that’s a 1948 grill, because of the crank-start hole. But I thought the 48 top grill bar did not have the parking lights. I’m probably wrong. If the data plate on the inside of the glovebox door is legible, that’s a buyer’s best info source.

    • @jenniferescott-green9458

    Always liked those trucks. So utilitarian yet awesome looking. As far as what I would do? Money no object? Ford made a new 7.3 pushrod V8 mated to a 10 speed auto... Not as wide as the Coyote so it will probably slip right in (as much as a 390 would anyway, looks like that trans tunnel needs reworked anyway). Lower it, good suspension and brakes and voila, a "road race" ready F1! As far as patina; The passenger door is going to be a problem. Unless you can find a door in similar condition as the rest of the truck so you can "match" the patina it would have to be resprayed. And that looks like a whole lot of body work. But since money no object? Sorry Ben... I am going to paint it a slightly matte silver... And the chrome pieces matte black. It would be one bad ass truck.

    • @ericfowler4248
      @ericfowler4248 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you 85% Especially that new 7.3 V8. Money no object I'd have to have it manual transmission. Not lowered. Good stance yes. No to the flat black paint on the trim. Your very correct on the door. Me and you sir would get along just fine. I was literally thinking the same thing while reading everyone's comments. And yours is almost at the end. Have a good one.

    That engine, it's just a regular, mid 70's smog engine. By the time that 390 came out the 390 had been choked down to around 150 to 175 HP 72 and back are better engines. Some were above the 300 hp range. At one time all 390s were a performance engine. My 65 Galaxie has a 390 with a 4spd. It's a blast to drive in a straight line.

    Had one just like it in high school in the late 70s. Well, technically it was my dad’s but I was pretty much the only one who ever drove it. It was in similar condition to this one. I always thought it was a 1950..but never was positive. Flathead 6.
    The heater didn’t work, I kept a quilt in the cab to keep myself and my buddy from freezing to death on the way to school. Lol! I remember being pretty excited when I found a nice factory speaker grill in a similar junk yard truck. Wish I had it back.

    Big holes in center of dash would be where radio and speaker would go, looks a lot like the '50 we had for almost 20 years between Grandpa and Dad,yes it more than likely was red because of the dash color,ours was originally dark blue then Dad painted it white with turquoise trim.

    It was pretty common for pickups to stay about the same for several years up until about 1955 when the big tree started to do styling changes like they did on cars. Chevy/GMC stayed appearance wise about the same from 1948 thru 1954 making subtle changes to the styling of the grill and cab kinda like they did later on with 1970's thru the early 80's square body pickups. One pickup truck manufacturer International required you to provide the serial number of the truck when ordering parts because the model year was irrelevant because they made running changes to everything during the model year. My uncle found this out the hard way in 1965 when he ordered a fleet of seven for his business all equipped the same and when his service mechanic worked on them for regular maintenance they found they took three different oil filters and two different air filters and all trucks were equipped with the same engine.

I think I've been watching your channel too long because my answer to yuor question of "What would you do with this old 70's show truck" is: I'd do what it takes to get it running, driving and stopping. Love the patina.It's a cool old truck. Why "ruin it" by restoring it to new - you wouldn't want to drive it then!

      @@candle86 I totally understand the whole patina thing. How many cars have you seen disassembled over the years and never enjoyed? The whole painting process ties cars up for so many years. Another thing, is you don't have to worry about the vehicle so much. I know from experience once the painted car was out I was way more cautious about driving where I parked it.
