    I used to rent a home that had a large bar, much bigger than your counter top, in it. It held up beautifully for years and always was a conversation piece. For the money invested in doing it, the counter top held up as good or better than any laminate counter top. I am in the process of doing a bathroom counter top with the same materials. My wife does not want the pennies this time, but more of a black, white and sprinkling of glitter to it, instead. Michaels seems to only sell 16 oz. kits these days and the city we live in does not have a Michaels, but I'll order and use a coupon to reduce the price. The banks will give out rolls of fresh and shinny pennies, if you don't want any to have that tarnished copper or corroded look to them.Nice video. I can't wait to do up my counter in the hall bath area. Some of the paints already have glitter dust added to them; especially the Martha Stewart ones, but a subtle effect may be more to one's liking and an occasional small individual fleck of gold leaf may be just the ticket.

    This product is self-leveling, so if you put on foil tape to keep it from dripping over the edges, you can also have a small rise to each edge. This rise is actually sharp when dried. It is fine where there is a faucet so that you don't have water travel over the edge of a hole or such, but not so fine on the edge of a counter where one may place their elbows or arms. Like say, the edges then are sharp. They can be trimmed down with a razor, but your idea to put on the rail that extends up about a quarter of an inch solves the problem, too. If your edge rail is bullnose trim or rounded or such, then letting the epoxy product drip over the edge like a water fall is not any problem with sharp corners resulting.

    • @737T1C130
      @737T1C130  ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL! I was suprised to find that there are only about 300 pennies per square foot, which makes it less than most tile and definitely cheaper than slab countertop. And pennies are getting cheaper everyday!

    how is the scratch resistance of the epoxy? Also is there a UV inhibitor?

    • @737T1C130
      @737T1C130  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Scratch resistance is very good. Obviously, you don't want to cut directly on top of the epoxy, but we haven't had any issues at all over 2 years later. This epoxy is unlike the older epoxy you might have seen at restaurants and such where it becomes yellow. It is manufactured with a UV light resistance and we have had no discoloration. Still as clear as day 1.

    Would I have to be concerned with appliances like a toaster oven or microwave putting out too much heat for the epoxy to handle?

    • @737T1C130
      @737T1C130  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dwight Gordon, the epoxy is supposed to withstand up to 135 degrees. We have a toaster oven on the counter, but not a microwave. So far there have been no problems.

    • @737T1C130
      @737T1C130  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Willy Florentino Actually, there are about $2.32 worth of pennies per square foot. I had approximately 18 square feet. This countertop is worth about is about $50.00 in pennies plus the cost of the epoxy, which was around $200.

    • @737T1C130
      @737T1C130  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Willy Florentino I made a mistake earlier, the length was 18 feet x 2 feet deep so it's actually 36 square feet. That was a total cost of near $100 in pennies.

      +thunderbolt13100 The good money you're referring to is $100 in old pennies. We tried finding 36 square feet of countertop for less than $100, but it couldn't be done. If you know of an alternative that costs less and looks nicer, I am open to intelligent suggestions.

      +Scott Singleton .. I LOVE this! I don't have the patience to do a pattern like that, but it's great. Like someone else said, I'd like to see the whole kitchen finished to see if the countertop stands out! Great job! Very interesting too!
