What if it isn't about fate - but a revolutionary theme. Gardiner very likely identified the correct inception here as being born from the revolutionary song "La Liberté!" for the famous motive. Beethoven himself told a fellow composer many years later that "If people knew what I put into my music, I would be behind bars."
i dont know why i love this tempo so much.. it's like potrayed how symphony no.5 should be played.. Fiery, passionate, loud and energic.. really love it!
The correct tempo and orchestral dynamics make this an absolutely amazing experience of what Beethoven intended his works to sound like. Modern interpretations certainly have their place in the cannon, but to my ear, nothing can compare to the vibrant, lively character that Zander brings to the piece in his pursuit of Beethoven's original vision. Bravo!!!
Who says its correct and why do we have to believe them Are too frightened to live with uncertainty or is too easy to have some authority decide for us Sorry but there are places in the lst mvmt where the tempo must slow down a little anyone with good musical ears can hear them
@@williamsackelariou1860 well, Beethoven says they're correct, lol. These are his tempi! Who would know better what speed to play his music than Beethoven? If you're saying you prefer a slower tempo, that's fine. Maybe your ears do like it better, but that doesn't mean that this isn't the tempo Beethoven always intended. For my money, I much prefer Beethoven's tempo for Beethoven's music vs. modern slow and dragging interpretations that neglect Beethoven's instructions for how to play his music.
Wow! I just came here because a Brazilian researchers said that it will destroy 20% of cancer cells without hurting the healthy cells. Which is true because i find it beautiful to listen. I've never thought this was amazing. Feels like it's automatically connected to my body. This is AMAZING 😮✨

When I was in uni, studying nursing, this is what I played when I was studying for the exam, and when I was doing my thesis and essays, Beethoven and Mozart, helped me to relax. ❤
this is THE interpretation of this piece. it's impossible to overstate how insanely effective Maestro Zander's musical decisions are here. and what an orchestra to be able to pull it off so well!
Wonderful. The first 8 notes are perfect. Will never understand why they are played so slowly and non abruptly in other renditions. This whole recording is really ferocious and unrelenting, with almost percussive strings; and yet so incredibly tender at points - never more so than with the oboe, which manages to cry out without wilting and dragging the tempo down. Approaching perfection. Was hooked since hearing Ben Zander's junior Boston orchestra. Now I'm unable to listen to any other version than this..
I must have listened to four or five dozen different performances of this first movement by now, but this felt like hearing it for the very first time. I did not think that could be possible. I'm in your debt, Maestro Zander.
My child hood dream was to get into the boston philharmonic, or be a great linguist, my dad scoffed at it so hard all my years it made me rethink my ambitions. I was always first chair without private lessons, and even in college i was second chair. i do admit i got my ass kicked by music theory. but music was always a calling, same with language. i still have th clarinet dad bought me, a Buffet B flapt clarinet, ive kept up until this day. maybe one day il see yall in the Boston Phil!
Simply put, truly a magnificent performance! Benjamin Zander did a wonderful job of bringing the very best out of each orchestra player. The kind of performance that keeps you on the edge of your seat with excitement!
I'll take the 5th over the 9th all day.the has the famous chorus I get it but from start to finish the 5th is the greatest piece of symphonic music ever written or played not even close!!!
I have never had all that extreme emotions of joy when listening to this, I really hope one day I will e¿able to go to listen The Boston Symphony Orchestra and Youth Orchestra with Ben Zander, ONE DAY!!!!
I read all the comments and i have to agree with all. Music is not played only for 1, everyone has learned differently and has a different idea in mind. To the people that think it’s too fast, that’s only because Zander has a different idea. To the people that like this tempo, hopefully this is orchestra is glad you enjoyed it.
Ludwig van Beethoven marked the tempo of his Fifth Symphony at 108 beats per minute (BPM). Beethoven would smile and nod in approval to this performance.
@@searchmeinyoutube Zander definitely more faithfully follows the score but personally I can't shake the feeling that 108 is too fast. Sure, playing at a faster tempo may add to the intensity and energy in some sections, but in just as many it just ends up conveying that "rushed" feeling (most notably in the slower, more sweeping section of the B theme). Don't get me wrong, I'm not for the painfully slow renditions of this peice such as Bernstein's either, but I do personally think Kleiber's interpretation fits the score better--it's fast and energetic, but not to the point of feeling rushed. Plus, Klieber is actually relatively quite faithful to Beethoven's score throughout, although not quite so much as Zander--his third movement, for example, uses the correct tempo taken in 4/4 time, just like Zander. Overall, I'd say Kleiber's interpretation is the perfect blend of faithfulness when important but also creative liberty and personal musicality when it works.
Brilliance ❤ When I was a child in Brisbane primary school, our headteacher would put up a piece such as this on the wall every day ,the peace and the composer and if we didn’t know it as it played as assembly gathered onto the quadrangle were we stood listening ,when it stopped he would point to one person, we had to give him the name of the composer and the name of the piece of music, this was one of them, look out if you didn’t know the answer. That and my Fathers love of classical music and opera enabled me to appreciate every kind of music including some of the most fantastic rock music !

Grateful to Zander for this effort to show us Beethoven's intentions as non-indulgent and impactful - cosmic. Wish there were more people willing to combine rigorous scholarship, artistic concern and generous humanity in order to bring over all composers' intentions as dutifully and accessibly as possible.
