True story, I had a massive car crash in the 90's, broken femur, cracked skull, coma and collapsed lungs. This was the first song I heard after coming to again in the Hospital on the local student radio station. I rang my mum to buy the CD on the way to the hospital. Love my mum

Right enough, we should all cherish our mothers. Even if you don't see eye to eye, show your mother the respect that she really deserves. I sometimes think, I would give almost anything to spend some more time with my deceased mum. She was taken far too soon. Mr. Lockwood's is a timely reminder to show mothers that we love them 24/7, all the year round - not just Mother's Day.
I have been waiting my whole life to see the pixies, travelled around the world, always missing there gig The played in NZ in march 2020. Epic gig, could be our last international gig for a long time. Stay safe world.

I've always loved how Allison was too short for it's own video so they just tacked it on to the end of Dig for Fire. Amazing.

They were genius. Something really went off the rails w/ this band interpersonally after this record however.
I was ten years old when I heard this song being played by my father. Been hooked on the Pixies ever since. Nothing like the 80’s, early nineties music.

I saw the Pixies on this tour. The intensity of the show and the band was so overwhelming. People were going completely nuts. They really connected with us 19-20 year-olds. I think Frank and the band were kind of overwhelmed w/ the popularity that was swirling around them. It was the same with Jane's Addiction and both bands broke up soon after. Then Nirvana released Never Mind and the whole scene kind of blew up.
i understand now what you said, i have never cried on a concert and i did with Pixies, i counldnt stop, and it was pure happiness. :D

went to high school in the early 90's, so I had to go to bed early on Sunday nights. Used to set the vhs recorder to MTV's 120 Minutes and see what I caught. Caught this gem of a song, it was the first time I heard it and it blew me away. I still have the vhs tape

I've seen them about 10 times with Kim and once with Paz. Sure, they're not as good without Kim, but they are still very much worth seeing live.

I saw this on JBTV in Chicago in the early 90s, had it on VHS for years. When Mose Allison played at Bluesfest in Grant Park in the early 2000s I went because of this song. I hate to think I would have missed out otherwise. Long live Pixies and RIP Mose. ❤

all pixie official vids were so abstract and derivative for the time. they set the bar so high for vids. amazing even beyond the music. 4AD must have been the sympathetic label for their far-reaching vision.
Reviewed this album for the Tulane University radio station's newspaper. I loved the album, especially Allison, even if it was spelled wrong and should be Alison (says Alison). ;) 34 years later, still love it. and just now learned the video was filmed in Amsterdam. I lived in Utrecht for 9 years! Leuk!

The Allison header. Truth is stranger than fiction
When I first saw this music video, I was blown away (no Track 11 pun intended). It was and still is one of the most simple and inventive ideas. It was another way of producing that obligatory marketing element that the record company needs, while avoiding the lip-syncing they clearly preferred not to do in their vids, if it was an option. It must be one of the only music videos that contains a live 'B-side'. I do love them so.

That looks like it was a motorcycle ride to the sound check for a Pixies show, later that day. You can see Frank looking up at the line array in the first line of Allison. Thanks Pixies and big thank you goes to Ivo, for all the great 4AD music over the last thirty years. My favorite label.
I still listen to the Pixies today with the same enthusiasm that i did in the late 80's , im very sure theres a lot of people who feel the same way !

I was born after they made all of their classic albums and didn't really find the band until a few years ago (except for WIMM which I knew from Fight Club), but I jam these songs almost daily.

I'm sure it drove the record company execs nuts trying to find a way to make them look cool and sell them. They should have just let them be their uncool, brilliant selves.

When I first heard this on CD it felt more raw, and more beautiful.
its the same recording as the cd , obviously it's you that has changed and in that how you here the song changes ( and a different sound system will make the song seem "not the same as before")
True but a later remastering might sound bad because of dynamic compression. Granted this came out 25 years ago this may have been remastered to keep up with the loudness war.

-Always wished the camera would swing another 90 degrees when it got to the drummer so I could see where that multicore went... was there someone on a mixing console on the field too? Was it multitracked and mixed later or is that a live mix? After all the accurate production detail on the players I was even more interested in the live recording since it's not the album version

Fucking great song. People think of this a college music, but I remember it as "Army music". I bet we partied harder than any college kids. We did it all over the world. I remember listening to this to on a balcony overlooking a valley in the Alps, in Obersalzburg, Germany. I marked the time in my head and can still picture it like it was yesterday.
