"Can we make a music video?"
"Yes, but you have to bring your little sister."
Is she really the little sister? At first, I was kinda undecided on the song but I really did love the music video from the first. Mostly, it looks like they're having fun like Veruca Salt's Seether
@@Eeveewasherethat's Kathleen Hana. The lead singer of bikini kill. One of the most famous riot grrrl bands. I guess they were friends with the band.
@@matthewdaub Thank you for answering. I can now check out Bikini Kill. I might like their music. You were kind to respond.😊

ZOMG AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She's counting how much money she won betting on Bull in the Heather at Gulstream Park!
"Why is that 8-year-old girl always jumping around?"
It was the money she won betting on the horse "Bull in the Heather" at Gulfstream Park.

Kathleen Hanna with the pigtails and the Chuck T's. What an absolute goddess. Iconic.

To be there in the 90s in your teens and twenties, it was life, amazing, fantastic, beautiful life!

Sonic Youth has got to be one of the greatest band names ever.
@Frank Lopez Joy Division....
you're welcome
More like Sonic Old as shit.👴🏻
Nirvana, Pearl Jam
@Frank Lopez Yes so many! It seems like all the great bands of my youth had interesting names: Psychedelic Furs, Echo and the Bunnymen... and so many of the bands seem to embody their names, like the Pixies (whose music always seemed strange and magical to me)...
The 90's were like "Don't tell me how to make music"
Don't label the 90s thanks
And I love it
The '90s:
_Now with extra nostalgia!_
I mean, it’s still pretty much standard Intro-Verse-Chorus-verse-chorus and whatnot

@@dylanmayhue4605 Box of chocolates, where you never know what you'll get? 😅
@1NightStan Well sure, to children I'm old af.
This is so interesting, it sounds like a really loud song but nothing is actually loud or that distorted. It's a song that accomplishes being aggressive without having to resort to loudness and screams. A proof of concept
It's the dissonance of the tunings and the chords they use I think, it creates a lot of emotional urgency, their discography is full of songs that evoke similar feelings. I think they're one of the few bands to perfect that sort of evocative nature in their songs, another being Radiohead.
I guess this is how non-musicians talk. 😂
@@Kevin.Kelly. lol im a musician
Check out somewhat damaged by nine inch nails
It sounds kinda like a metal song without distortion and screams. Like when someone does an acoustic cover of a metal song.
I love how the "riff" is just a couple of distorted noisy notes through a delay pedal. So completely separate from any pop friendly tunes but instantly recognizable to fans. Still one of my favorite songs on one of my favorite albums.
Flat Earth!!

I like how I can recognize The Amen Break in the drumming
For anyone confused by the "(C) 2004 Geffen Records" in the video description, this is what happens when people renew their copyrights with re-releases. This album came out in 1994.
revelwoodie thank you! That actually did confuse me!
The internet wasn't like today. There wasn't any recordlabels owning anything in a computer back in 94.
You can't actually renew a copyright (especially on something created after the 1970s). It's just a bold lie on their part.
@@supermarx You can, actually, if you remaster the recordings. Which is almost certainly one of the main reasons UMG tried so hard to hide the damages from that fire. If an artist sues them, and they can't produce the masters, they may very well lose their rights.
revelwoodie I remember getting the CD when I was in high school I'm old
It used to drive me crazy. That little drum break in the middle of this song always reminded me of another song, but I couldn’t think of which one. Finally, it hit me - Mary Mary by the Monkees.
There is literally nothing like this song in existence. It's truly one of a kind.

I like you too! This honestly sounds like a Blood Brothers track to me (love rhymes with?)
I know plenty of other good poetry that was turned into a song if you are keen to hear some. Give Bob Dylan a shot, and then dip into some of the Doors.

I loved "120 minutes" on MTV -it was so exciting to see these new crazy bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Throwing Muses, Screaming Trees, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, etc. It was like a new world of music to me. The usual charts at that time were so boring and real bad music.
I miss those days.. 120 min was phenomenal.
I found this song on Beavis & Butthead when I was a teenager, then again in that movie SubUrbia (different song). It captures the feel of that era nicely, this song I mean.

This video has so many wonderful elements: the surreal stock footage, the punk rockers, Kathleen's performance in general but especially fighting Thurston and taking his guitar, Thurston Moore running around with a horse for some reason, whatever's going on at 1:36 (you see something new every time you look, I swear), just a perfect wackadoo video for a wackadoo band.

Whenever I'm feeling down I just come here and watch Kathleen Hanna in this video and I feel better. What a legend. But besides the video, this has always been my favorite Sonic Youth song. :)
Gordon has done an amazing job of turning her weakness into a strength. She's one of the most consistently flat singers in music yet has leaned into in such a way that it totally works in context. With the raw vocal material she's working with there's a hundred ways she could have been bad and only one way she could have been good, and she found it. I guess it means if you don't have a traditionally "good" voice, don't despair, find a context it works in. Les Claypool is another perfect example. He's got good pitch but his timber is...unique. Try to imagine him fronting just about any other metal band to see what I mean. Yet in Primus it's the only thing that makes sense.
she is a blond w/ a guitar...... :)
