Ardie, your review was so comprehensive on this that I have shelved plans to film one of my own!!! I would have little to add, and I'm a bit biased anyway, and perhaps incapable of a "fair" review. But, I am overjoyed that you seem to think this is a great release, like I do! For the clean-up of the Series Rules, much of the credit goes to Bill Byrne, who has emerged as the series' Rules Czar and Developer Extraordinaire! In 2019, artillery underwent quite a bit of change, but the rest of the work was certainly concerned with clarifying the core rules and concepts. Bill has done, and continues to do, a great job of keeping the system as manageable as possible, knowing that, as you say, this is always going to be "the deep end of the pool" for Civil War tactical game systems. For the Battle Book, there are a LOT of Shiloh-specific concepts, such as the Johnston special abilities, the custom woods rules (these might be leveraged in later games, such as say... The Wilderness), command "control" rules, Alerts, Ammo Resupply, and more. Shiloh was a one-off in a few ways, so that contributes to a thicker-than-normal BB to give the battle the proper historical flavor. So, seeing as the counters fall out of the sprue without any muss or fuss ... are you going to "have to" clip these counters? :) If so, I expect to see this game under your mitts on an upcoming Monday show.
Well done! I’m working on Shiloh as a miniature game (GHQ rules 10mm figs) and love to get board games to go along with miniature projects. I may have to get this!
Nice unboxing. I have this and already unboxed it myself. It's a nice production and I'm looking forward to it. I sort of collect Shiloh games because my Great Grandfather served there in the 71st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. (Also Nashville when a game happens to be published.) Thanks
Ardwulf don't feel bad. Up until yesterday I didn't have the ability to set up a table to play these games. I had to spend most of the week moving things and getting my hobby room in order and now I can set up my six foot folding table and particle boards as the game top. Id like to get a wargame dealing with horse and musketry era.
If I were to get Into The Woods and the 2021 Series rules would I be able to apply the 2021 rules to Death Valley and still be able to use the Battle book?
Yes, whatever the "current rules set" is at any given time, it is retroactive to all previous games. Of course, you *could* still use an older rule set that came in an older game's box, if you *wanted to*. Whatever you and your opponent can agree to, right?
I was very impressed as well when I looked over my copy. Minor gripe is I feel that the maps are just a little too thin to satisfy my compulsive paranoia.
I concur; it seems all the map sheets in this latest GMT batch could have used a few extra "pounds" in the weight/thickness category. It's less of an issue with me because my maps never see heavy use; I play on Vassal almost exclusively, so they rarely are even unfolded!!!
Very pleased with this entry thus far. Was especially pleased to see the couple of mini-maps for smaller scenarios; hope that's a continuing trend.

Totally still clipping it. But it's third in line.
@@ardwulfslair I figured ... 😄
Damm haven’t finished clipping Death Valley, going to have to go on a GBACW clipping spree. Great unboxing, thanks.

Been greatly looking forward to this series of unboxings
Great video. I really like how you show 3 counter sheets fitting nicely in the box.

Nice run through. Meanwhile back to re-arranging all my shelves to fit Pac War and Woods. :-)

The closing theme - - It is also used by the Tasting History Channel when he shifts to his history segment. What is the name of the tune?
It's something from the TH-cam audio library.

Any plans on doing a comparison from this series and MMP's LOB?
Plans for thus are in the works.
Sir do you think we will see a revision and release of Three Days at Gettysburg soon?
Not soon. But eventually.

@@Stiglr Same here. Most play, ESCECIALLY games this size or larger, are "VASSAL-only," which is why for me, the "gripe" is "minor."
@@joeperez3520 Well, I hope you get good use out of the Vassal module I created for ItW!
@@Stiglr Thank you, sir!! 😘😘😘😘😘

Wait, “late, great Richard Borg”? He’s not dead, right?
No! Richard *Berg* is no longer with us. Mr. Borg is alive and well and happy in the Collective.
Jeeeez, how many of these games to you have? Are you paying for all these?
Everybody has a third mortgage nowadays.
@@ardwulfslairEh heh I see
may I ask what 5 GMT games you had die cutting problems with? that really bothers me and I want to keep away from them
Death Valley and SPQR Deluxe were two of them... both outstanding games. Positive GMT would've fixed it had I complained.
