Great review man, thanks for recommending it to me. As I said on twitter, I reviewed Fury of the Furries last year, it's one of my favourite retro games and in my opinion one of the best soundtracks to any game
I had "Slider" for Game Gear in North America, and it was my favorite game for the Game Gear (tied with Sonic The Hedgehog), and I had like 30 games. I picked it out randomly at Toys R Us when I was 7 years old - never heard of it before in my life, and I spent $30 of my saved birthday money to buy it - I'm glad I picked that one out!!! I have no idea why the developers don't like the Game Gear installment - Slider rocks!!! The whole Skweek franchise rocks!!! Great video, @slopesgameroom! Love this deep dive into an under-appreciated but FANTASTIC video game franchise.
Great job DJ. This is fantastic man. It's such a shame they couldn't leave a version of the cursing skweek in the game that would need a small password or something. Gotta love when devs have some fun like that
I discovered this at the time on the Atari ST and Amiga. It was one of the most playable games of the time. The music was amazing and good fun too. Complete Genius,
easily my favourite Amstrad game, and I'd still rank it as one of my favourite games even now. i actually wind up favouring Amstrad versions of games over any others. Bubble Bobble being the best example. Never knew about the swearing though, did they have a second version released after with it removed? I'm sure if it was in there I'd not have spent so many hours playing 2 player games with my Mum if it had been swearing at us each level.
I loved that game and in Amiga there were two versions. "Skweek" and "Super Skweek" which was a later version and a lot bigger, it even allowed you to build your own levels. I believe the timestamp at 8:17 is from "Super Skweek" and not the original "Skweek" which looked like the PC version
Brought back a lot of memories, I used to love Skweek on the Amstrad CPC464 may have to install an emulator and replay some of my faves, Fruity Frank, Chucky Egg, BoulderDash, Dizzy's ect ect :)
+Daniel “Slope's Game Room” Ibbertson It may not of been groundbreaking but it looks like a fun series and I enjoy learning the history of lesser known games. Thanks for sharing :)
Now I've heard of Fury of the Furries but never got a chance to play and had no idea it was a semi-sequel. I wonder what the original Skweek developer thought of that game. Looks good.
Didn't know there were other versions of this game, nor did I know it's original name! I have the game gear version Slider, as it's known here in the US
I'm playing the Lynx version of Super Squeek now, and it's a pretty good videogame. I don't care much for the way the character controls, which feels a bit wonky with loose diagonal movements and dead stops. Am I wrong to think it would be better if Squeek was "locked" into grids instead of his more free movements? Maybe I just need to spend more time with it. I also wish the Lynx version had in-game music, but that's a common problem with that system. This is a great video and was very helpful for me to understand the game's history, thanks a lot!
cheers holmes, and thanks for voting 4 me 2 :) yeah the game had a random story and when i asked the creator about it he said it was tacked on at the end... the gameplay was the main concern :)
i had never heard of this game before today although i recognized the box art for fury of the furries lol. i need this game in my life now. and i kept thinking that the puzzle gameplay would suit mobiles then you mentioned ios at the end lol. gutted its not on android. hopefully it will be one day. xxx
There was a version of Tiny Skweeks developed by a different developer for the SNES called "The Brainies" which seems to be more well-received. Have you played that one by any chance?
Well, I didn't know Skweek had anything to do with Fury of the Furries. I liked that game, there's something I like about solving a level with characters with differing abilities in games like The Lost Vikings and more recently Trine. Am slowly going through your videos, and I've never felt as though it's been time wasted so far. Let the procrastination commence...
+Jon Simmons (Neffers) Ahhhhh dude thanks so much, i seriously appreciate it. Also Trine is a kick ass series (not played 3 yet) but they are sooooo good
I have to admit that, I share the same pain you had back then with all games looking the same. Now it is I have been begging for new and unique protagonist of characters in video games, but every single time a game with a new and unique character comes out like yooka-laylee or super Lucky's Tale, it always fails only to have generic characters like hat girl steal the spotlight. This year, I've been extra picky about Games, and I've basically gone from "I would rather not play as a human" to "I absolutely will not play as a human" due to the sheer frustration I have of never seeing a video game I can connect with.
Can anyone who has played this game tell me how to tell when the monster traps will be safe to cross over. It seems to be random. The best thing I've tried is killing a monster immediately when it comes out, then crossing, but the thing sometimes STILL eats me.
Pac in time was a sprite swap of Fury Of The Furries? *checks to verify* Well I'll be damned. Good thing I watched this video. I'm writing a video on pac man games. Thanks for the info.
@@slopesgameroom I think it could also be the obscure nature of this game tbh I've barley met people who have played it and when you think about the 99 levels especially on the Amiga fitting into 720 Kb is amazing also
Daniel, being a child around that time myself I know the pain. I know the angst of wanting a NEO GEO. Damn our parents to he'll for not wanting to buy us a £700 console with £200 games. Thank fuck for emulation.
I can't imagine why the devs didn't like the name change from Skweek to Slider. Okay Slider may not be very original, but it sounds a hundred times better and more original than the soundyou make when you squeeze a dog toy. What were they thinking??
yeah I think as a Android user I'll probably just use an emulator as if they won't port any game over to my platform I have no problems with piracy, I really hate platform-specific games in this modern era
9:17 The Controversy part
GOD BLESS YOU
This channel is so awesome. Thanks for all the work in bringing us all this info on our favorite classics!
thanks so much 4 commenting that. very h7mbled
Great review man, thanks for recommending it to me. As I said on twitter, I reviewed Fury of the Furries last year, it's one of my favourite retro games and in my opinion one of the best soundtracks to any game
+walkingthec0w Retro Gaming It has a brilliant soundtrack thats for sure, I will defo check your review out :D

I'm so glad people are still watching these old videos. Appreciate you sharing your skweek/slider history :D
Aw man, I had this on the ST! As if it came back though. Had no idea.
+infectedflinch yeah man, this game always stuck with me and when looking it up I also had no idea of the remake lol

+The Game Hunters Its obviously nothing ground breaking, but with that said its a shame its not more popular.
+Daniel “Slope's Game Room” Ibbertson It may not of been groundbreaking but it looks like a fun series and I enjoy learning the history of lesser known games. Thanks for sharing :)
Great video, it's cool that you got to interview one of the creators.
+sonic meerkat Thanks mate, yeah I love talking to people that made such a big impact on my youth
"Hey, I heard your sister is going out with SKWEEK!"
Sorry, I just could not resist such a bad joke... XD
Now I've heard of Fury of the Furries but never got a chance to play and had no idea it was a semi-sequel. I wonder what the original Skweek developer thought of that game. Looks good.
Skweek was a fun game. My father had the game on Atari.
Excellent game on the cpc this. Another fine fine vid dude.
+Novabug Cheers mate, really enjoyed playing it back in the day
Wow - I never realised Fury of the Furries and Skweek were the same franchise. Cool video.
+Pixel Populi Nor me, whilst researching when the dots all connected i knew I had to do a video on it

aww when you was first explaining the game i was thinking 'wow that sounds pretty good and 100 levels, great' ha ha great review

The developer did actually send me an apk for android however I believe they came into a few licencing issues hence the delay

Is that Surfari's Wipeout MIDI cover from the Skweek games?

How come french have that many Jump N Run characters but Germany has like only 1 game that I remember fondly... and that was on the Wii.
I think the Robots with trapped animals comes from the animal weapons tested during WW2.
What's the music from that starts at 3:55? Is that from the Skweek soundtrack?
6:16 is also pretty catchy!
Yeah this game does look fun I never played it as a kid but I would like to too late now
Try emulating, maybe? Not sure if that console even has an emulator, given how underground it is, but maybe.
CPC version is the best by far.
+Vincent GR AGREED
SKWEEK!
you talked about bobo?where?it isnt in your "complete history"playlist :/
also, great channel. new fan and love it :D
+Fayez Fawzi its in the random history playlist :)
The gwafix are impressive for the time.
This platform were actually looks fun I never played any of these games I wish I did
I would love see a sequel of Fury of the Furries, since I played the hell out of Pac-In-Time? Any chances?
+Eric Sanic i wish... But i doubt it

All you have to do is cross when they're completely open. That's really all there is to it ... the wings of the trap doors have tooth for a reason. :D

+Oneupgamer you are more than welcome mate. Tbf i was surprised too :D
Daniel Ibbertson Apparently there are quite a few differences in the SNES version but all others are the exact same.
2:23 how could you get that stock image so wrong
OMG! Is... is that... a DIGITAL BLACKFACE?! I'll get pitchforks!
Changed Shape OOF
Still play the Amiga version to this day
Wow, your the 1st person to comment on this in a long time. Glad you still play these awesome games
@@slopesgameroom I honestly just found this specific complete history I've watched a lot of them but must have missed this one
@@danieluchwal3515 yeah, unsurprisingly youtube like to promote the complete histories based on streets of rage, metroid, golden axe etc

There's a game based on Deat Wish. Dude please make a video about it.
*Death
+Shashank 235 i mention it in my next vid actually :)

I could've sworn that Skweek also had a Mega Drive version. I can't seem to find anything about it online.
+Annoyed Armos if u do letvme know u xont jnow of it
Daniel Ibbertson Are you okay, Dan? I swear this game did exist, I remember seeing it on ebay as I remember the ugly box art.
I don't know about the Mega Drive, but there was a SNES version of Tiny Skweek that I knew as "The Brainies".
Have you considered the possibility of it being a homebrew or bootleg port?
"get oro"? spanglish in a british magazine?

Nearly a year later and still no Android release. Smh.
+Noah Nesbitt yeah, sadly i dunno what thats all about :(
Wow! 0 dislikes!
+RS Roblox & more! I am sure it will not last long lol

what a weird "series", can't say that it looks bad though. It's like Gauntlet meets Pac Man!
HEY HEY HEY IT'S RU WINNER REWINDMIKE!!!
you know what... Gauntlet meets Pac Man is probably the perfect explanation for the early games
that's me :D lol It was a good time, despite the few hiccups with the stream.
Can you look at GODZILLA video Game's :-)
I want the version where there is profanity...
