*DISCLAIMER* I still support theocracy in the United States, but not the shallow secular knock-off that most people are clinging onto. Don't take this video out of context...hope you enjoyed.
Nice video, as always. Personally I disagree with the stablishment of a theocracy of any kind, I think the byzantines found the solution, a laity government but still guided by christian principles. Also if a theocracy is established in the US you bet the orthodox won't fare well
Just because the government isn't a theocracy doesn't mean it's secular, the Christian kingdoms of old were monarchistic but with Christian institutions.
What do you mean by that? Is that a secret handshake sort of thing? Like those yobs who tore down that steel sculpture pillar thing in California during the pandemic? Doesn’t smell REMOTELY Orthodox. Get your head straightened out, and be sure to graduate from college before you’re 30.
@Jeem, Thanks for commenting on Christian Nationalism. The illustrated whizz through history was great. I love your ability to zoom.out and summarise. I need to understand what the Christan Nationalist movement thinks it wants to achieve. Meanwhile, those of us who genuinely want to be ruled by God can be subjects in His kingdom, whatever others do.
I feel like christian nationalism is a term that has been adapted and subverted. The point of attaching christian to nationalism is to specify what kind of nationalism. It's not civic nationalism, it's not national socialism, it's christian nationalism. It is a nationalism that recognizes that people groups are different, and thats a good thing, but at the same time these various groups are equally made in the image of God. It is a version of nationalism confined and defined by Christianity rather than some other ideology. Not only this but a nation should be judged by its devotion to God, rather than by its wealth or power. We are so far from this kind of world, but I can always hope and look to God because in the end He will win in his own way.

I am glad to see that you know about Portuguese history and the Liberal war and revolution that happened here. I have one question for you. What is the stance of Orthodox Christianity regarding the theory of evolution of species? Is it officially regarded as incompatible with the religion by your clergy? Or are believers free to believe in it? Thank you Jeem and continue with your videos, I really really enjoy the Orthodox perspective on many subjects, really a breath of fresh air.
Hmm... I always heard that Justinian's code was based on Roman Law which stripped of its Pagan elements would thus be secular and it was supposed to work in conjunction with Church religious law.
Because they're pushing HARD now. They believe in their 7 Mountain Mandate and are hell-bent (yes, they are) to clean up Aisle America to make their Jesus hurry on down to get them. It's perverse.
InspiringPhilosophy, a popular Christian apologist, has been actively denouncing a subset of hardcore Christian nationalism on Twitter. This has led to an increased backlash by conservative Christians who defend Christian nationalism as a whole.
Christian Nationalism is an oxymoron. But also, although the idea of a theocracy in the United States may seem appealing to many, we better be careful on what we are asking for. Anybody who advocates for the NO separation between religion and State should assume that there is a high probability that his/her religion will not be the one ruling the State (which would definitely be the case for Orthodox Christians in the United States). According to a 2023 poll of the Wall Street Journal, Protestants (in all their diverse conservative and ultra liberal manifestations) are 26% of the population; Catholics are 21%; "Just Christians' 20%; Judaism 2%; Buddhism 2%; Mormonism 1%; Unitarianism 1%; Islam 1%; "Nothing in particular" 12%; Agnostic 8%; Atheist 4%; Other 2%. Orthodox are just around 0.5%. Remember that the idea of separation of religion and State was not mostly due to a conscious drive to secularize society, it rather emerged mainly as an solution, a way to put and end, to the never ending massacre of people during the European wars of religion throughout the 16th, 17th and early 18th centuries. I believe then that we should be cautious. As soon as religious leaders were given the opportunity of getting absolute power and control of society again, we would immediately witness how they forget their true mission and start to bitterly antagonize against one another (different denominations or different religions) repeating the same bloody history. Those who succeed assuming control would start to legislate according to their beliefs and theology (a Protestant Church, the Pope?) and try to impose it to others, as it used to happen in the past (we actually see this happening wherever there are theocracies). In any case, what is more important is not to forget what He taught us: "My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here." (John 18:36) Also, " Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." (Matthew 22:21) God bless you all.
Great video. This is why I believe the Christian Nationalist Movement should be called the Theocratic Monarchist movement, since that is the True “Christian Nationalism” that existed before the Enlightenment.
Christian Nationalism in a very broad sense isn't negative. In a vert broad sense, medieval Christian states had the basic things Christian nationalism calls for, a state that justifies itself in significant part on Christianity. Tho, I do admit the parts of the movement as it exists that are just repackaged secular nationalism or the complete dissolving of the barrier between state and church in reaction to the hard barrier of secularism, are issues.
@@narcisraiciu6919 So it is the church and state complementing each other. They have mutual respect for each other and don't want to dominate the other. Interesting

question: why is christian nationalism becoming the word on the street all of a sudden?
For the reason I stated above, it's a slow-ball by the government to give frustrated men a calling, even though it's just another secular category.
