"this machine that would automatically get them for you" has to be the strangest way anyone has ever referred to a vending machine. Does it walk to the counter and order them?
When you feed the money into the hole, the machine sends a request to the Dippin Dots HQ A.I. to teleport a cup of pellets directly into the machine, then into your hands. It’s simple, really!
For me, Dippin Dots is a *fun novelty fair/amusement park treat.* That’s their niche. Not even close to the best ice cream. But no day at the fair or amusement park is complete without Dippin Dots!🎠🎡🎢
I've probably eaten less than a dozen servings of dippin dots. Never at theme parks or other similar attraction locations. Only at malls and one time at a movie theater.
it's a cool idea but in the end it's not practical. I wanna know that next time I'm grocery shopping my 5-$6+ will buy me ice cream for now, tomorrow and maybe the next time. I can get that with a pint from any other brand.

They should push into the cutesy factor. Icecream in a tiny round shape is cute and childish, that can still fit modern aesthetics. Not 1980s anymore where everyone is trying to be "futuristic" cuz that seems retro now.
Actually if they do a nostalgia theme it might also work because people like things that remind them of the 80s but not exactly direct products from it
@@kuddlecat nostalgia can be good too I guess. But it still needs a "cute" feel. Their aesthetic always felt too cold for me, lol. It can be retro without feeling so sharp and lifeless.
I had dippin dots at a zoo recently and it was about $7 for a “larger” bowl. I bought it for the nostalgia because I hadn’t had it in 10 years or so but based on that price it’ll probably be another 10 years until I have it again (if it’s still around)

Well not like it was unreasonable, they sued a smaller company, that probably took a bigger initial hit from the lawsuit, with the patents they filed incorrectly, so it’s all purely their fault
I love how company man makes me root for companies that I don’t even really care about. For some reason while I was watching the video I was hoping dip n dots would prevail
There’s nothing better than those memories of being really tired after a long day of walking at an amusement park then when you are headed to the exit and begging your mom and dad for some ice cream.
They need to license this to Carvel or Baskin Robbins. They're too small, and just a single product to expand. I do love Dippin Dots. Edit: I fart on mah kids
I worked at a stand my senior year of high school and I’m convinced that’s the year I peaked. I will never have such an amazing job. I got paid to scoop and eat dots.
When I was a cart pusher at walmart someone forgot theirs in the cart. My choices were eat it or turn it in where it will be thrown away so like a good citizen I ate them. Can't find them in any store I visit though.
It doesn’t matter if you go to the zoo just once in a lifetime. The zoo is full of plenty of other people going there once in their lifetime, providing plenty of potential business.
My mom never let me have dippin dots when I was little cause they were so expensive. I could only get them when I went out with my auntie on vacation. Now, as a grown women, I just walk right past the booths. I think it's just out of habit because that's what I would do when I was little. Wonder if it's the same for others.
Yeah, we never had the money for them but I was always a bit curious. I remember seeing them as a teenager at Opryland Theme Park in 1990 and have yet to every try them.
@@murrayshekelberg9754 I bought them once out of curiosity. They're okay. They taste the same as Mini Melts if you can find those easier at a grocery or department store in a vending machine. Definitely a novelty item.
That's actually really cute! What year was this? Also, if there's one group of people who CAN'T make ice cream... it's NASA. (I'm referring to that garbage "freeze-dried ice cream" they invented. You can buy it at some gift shops. It's... awful. Just awful.)
Same! I remember getting them on a trip to Florida in 1999, and then I didn't see them again for almost 20 years. My husband makes fun of me for buying them at amusement parts
When I was younger, I had to tag along with my little sister to her dance competitions. I vividly remember one of these competitions had a Dippin' Dots stand at the arena. That was the prominent reason why that competition was my favorite.

I’ve seen them at six flags. I just want to say though, that the chocolate dippin dots in my opinion, kinda suck. If you want some chocolate ice cream and want dippin dots, get the banana split kind.
I remember my older sister had gymnastics meets all the time and there was ALWAYS a Dippin’ Dots stand at every single one. I’d always ask my parents for them, but they never let me have them, probably because they didn’t want to deal with me hopped up on sugar for a five hour meet.
they probably did't want to spend 5$ for less than half a cup of ice cream (keep in mind, most places have a 1$ ice cream cone) at least thats what my parents told me
@Morph Triplett generally, my parents didn’t really buy me a lot of sugary stuff or junk food as a child. At the time I hated it, but now I’m thankful for it. I didn’t need that stuff anyway.
I remember first hearing about Dippin Dots when I was in elementary school. Then in Jr. High it was super popular, popular enough to open up a store a couple blocks from where I live. Then they closed a couple years later and threw shade at the landlord of the marketplace where their store was, leaving a note at the front door saying that they really badly wanted to stay open, but the landlords would not negotiate a deal with their rent. Crazy times man.
We had them at our mall for awhile when I was younger, but they came in weird packets instead of the cups. Definitely wasn't the same because you not only got less, but the pieces also got stuck and melted together in the corners.
I had Dippin' Dots way back when during a time my family could afford to go to amusement parks. I never knew about the bankruptcy and change in ownership. As for finding them now, good luck. I can't imagine business is booming for them during this pandemic.
Danodan My local gas station has a Dippin’ Dots chest freezer in it. The only other place I know that I can locally get them is from the vending machine at the movie theater but Coronavirus.
The story of Dippin' Dots is a wild story. There's a whole episode where the founder tells his story at the How I Built This With Guy Raz podcast, It's insane how a company that has been around for so long is actually still seeing startup-like volatility.
I have first hand knowledge of the issues they faced. This is about the most accurate account of what is Dippin' dots. Bankruptcy and all. Nice job reporting.
I think I would like to see a Rise and Fall of Hertz! They’ve been going through financial turmoil lately and looks very dire for them. Like if you agree and so he can see it.
Mariam Shehab It’s basically just a car rental agency for cars, vans, and trucks. If you have heard of Enterprise Rent A Car it’s essentially the same thing.
Dippin' Dots has always been the best mouth feel experience. Broadwalk Treats at the Fayette Mall in Lexington, KY became one of my favorite places for a cold treat because they serve dippin' dots floats. It's my favorite way to eat them (banana spilt dots with root beer yes please), but it was always hard to eat since it's hard to find a place to sit and eat there.
I’ve always associated Dippin’ Dots with live sports. I’ve only ever ate it at baseball and football games. Those NY Yankees and Rutgers helmet bowls hit different.
I found those little mlb cap/bowls at minor league games the choice always when we went was either dipping dots or those cap ice cream I have stack of those mlb caps
As a broke kid at the mall i always thought the samples were great, but once i bought an actual order i was disappointed. They're not very good en masse.
I love dipping dots. Its one of my favorite things to eat ever, nothing beats the rainbow dipping dots. I love the texture, I also really enjoy the the icy feel due to the low temperature. I actually wish they would just have a small store here and there. I literally can't find them anywhere, I want to be able to eat like a huge cup of them at a time.
I love how the big cups of Dippin’ Dots at the mall and amusement parks I’m close to are actually _waaaaaaaay cheaper_ than the small cup I got at a random football stadium lol
I love Dippin Dots! For me, they've always been baseball food. I get Dippin Dots every time I go to a Rockies game. That tradition started in 2002 when I was 7 years old and my dad took me to my first baseball game, and it continues now as an adult.
Dippin’ dots make me so happy, man. When I’m having a bad day at work, my co-workers have dubbed it a “dippin’ dots day” because i’ll use my break to go into the mall and get a dippin’ dots to make me feel better
I've only seen one in my lifetime. Super rare. The vending machines are rare enough, the stores -- even harder to find. At least on the West Coast where I am at.
I had a store right down the street from my house but obviously it closed a while ago. Now a days the only place i get dippin dots at is knotts and the zoo.
I remember always begging for dippin dots anytime they were available as a kid. 😅 I’ve had them maybe 4-5 times in my life and I still freak out anytime I see a place selling them. Idk why but it’s just better than normal ice cream in my mind. Great video btw, take my subscription!

Yeah, and they’re not a “monopoly.” There are tons of ice cream brands.
@veevyo O.J. Simpson, Robert "Baretta" Blake, Casey Anthony. All guilty beyond a doubt, and the world knows it. All flying free as the wind.
There is No Justice in the so called "Justice System."
Well not like it was unreasonable, they sued a smaller company, that probably took a bigger initial hit from the lawsuit, with the patents they filed incorrectly, so it’s all purely their fault
The second I see Dippin' Dots the child inside me freaks out. I get so geeked and buy them immediately regardless the price. As they say, priceless.

There’s nothing better than those memories of being really tired after a long day of walking at an amusement park then when you are headed to the exit and begging your mom and dad for some ice cream.
I live in uk and haven’t even heard of dippin dots
The memory isn't so sweet when they said "no", which was often.
“Do you want Dippin’ Dots?”
“No, we’ll get it next time.”
I regret doing this because I haven’t had them in 7 years :/
they still at many amusement parks and some gas stations and restaurants have some mini freezers with them
I haven’t have them in like 3 years I really want to try them again they were pretty good
I kept saying this as there's a machine in a local Walmart....or there was T__T

They need to license this to Carvel or Baskin Robbins. They're too small, and just a single product to expand. I do love Dippin Dots.

With the pandemic going on, their sales have probably dropped off dramatically.
Probably, due to their marketing strategy.
It’s because dipndots are like, only sold at theme parks like trompoline parks, seaworld, aquariums, zoos, etc
Live where they’re headquartered. They have, but they’re not struggling like they were back in 2012.
mix yea my dippin dots locations have opened now at the local amusement park but the sales arent like they were last year, it's usually a slow day
Yeah it's weird given the timing of this video, that should have been mentioned. They may falling again in 2020.
I worked at a stand my senior year of high school and I’m convinced that’s the year I peaked. I will never have such an amazing job. I got paid to scoop and eat dots.
Am I crazy? I feel like i've seen Dippin Dots in the grocery's freezer with the other ice cream.
You are not, we have some at the store I work at and it’s next to normal ice cream
It is by me, but we hardly ever buy it since it costs more than normal ice-cream, and we always buy in bulk. Also they dont have chocolate so..
When I was a cart pusher at walmart someone forgot theirs in the cart. My choices were eat it or turn it in where it will be thrown away so like a good citizen I ate them. Can't find them in any store I visit though.
Ive never seen these at stores just amusement parks and baseball games
Yeah they sell them in little $2 packs at my local grocery store
Locations killed them, the last place I saw one was the zoo, and honestly how often do you go to the zoo?

Now, as a grown women, I just walk right past the booths. I think it's just out of habit because that's what I would do when I was little. Wonder if it's the same for others.
Yeah, we never had the money for them but I was always a bit curious. I remember seeing them as a teenager at Opryland Theme Park in 1990 and have yet to every try them.
@@murrayshekelberg9754 I bought them once out of curiosity. They're okay. They taste the same as Mini Melts if you can find those easier at a grocery or department store in a vending machine. Definitely a novelty item.
I get them at the Oakland zoo and they melt in around 15 min
They’re still sold prominently in public entertainment centers, zoos, aquariums, parks, etc.

@Morph Triplett generally, my parents didn’t really buy me a lot of sugary stuff or junk food as a child. At the time I hated it, but now I’m thankful for it. I didn’t need that stuff anyway.
Probably because they were bleeding $$$ from gymnastics classes and didn't want to bleed more from the cost of the Dippin' Dots.
I haven’t had dippin dots in about 6 or 7 years so thank you for reopening a missing hole in my childhood
One time I found dipping dots at a gas station, aren’t I lucky?
Once I found one at a trampoline park in a vending machine.

We had them at our mall for awhile when I was younger, but they came in weird packets instead of the cups. Definitely wasn't the same because you not only got less, but the pieces also got stuck and melted together in the corners.
I've only seen them in malls and movie theaters.

I saw people eating them at the mall so I can see how.
