not bad. My moms guinea pig is in a cage all day no different than this at least they have other guinea pig friends, This isn’t bad at all compared to what we don’t see when we buy a happy meal

Karen, Thank you for sharing a bit about your heritage. We were recently in Peru. I had Cuy for the first time ever, It was incredibly good! I grew up in south-central Pennsylvania. We hunted alot of wild animals. Rabbit was one of them. The cuy reminds me of the rabbit but better. Thanks again for sharing. Mick

I get it people are mad because they think their lovely “pet” are being eaten. Y’all should know that this is just culture differences, there’s nothing to be mad about it. As a marine bio/ ecology major I found these cultures fascinating. Yeah sure you can argue about their living condition or mental state, but pls just be respectful of other’s cultures and values.

      They do.
Interesting question ist the feed-to-meat ratio (scientific: caloric ratio, how much calories in feed the animal turns into one calorie of meat) ,
Which usually gets smaller the smaller the animals.
Cattle are good at 1:10, intensive pig farmers calculate 1:5, poultry can reach 1:2,8
      same as rabbits.
Insects have shown 1:1,4 in some experiments.
I did not find any numbers for Cuy with a quick google search, but its sensible to assume its somewhere near rabbits.

feed the predators of broccoli pests. I notice there are few weeds in the garden

These cages are to small for ONE NORMAL sized Guniea pig.

One Way Ticket~~How cool, a bamboo cage for bugs! I'd like to see it! Mine are in plastic drawers in the bedroom. I've had them for a few months now; they have pupated, turned into beetles, and do the daily "buggy boogy", now the eggs are being laid. The next bunch of mealworms will be edible! Can't wait for my first bite!
How do you cook your bugs?
I'm planning to raise Dubia cockroaches next. I heard they are really yummy, plus they grow colonies faster than mealworms.
We have a large homeless population where I live (the northwest ~upper left~~corner of the USA), with whom I hope to share some of my bounty.

They eat different kinds of feed. Therefore you can have cuy or rabbit for meat and chicken for eggs, and chickens mostly forage bugs and some store bought food as supplement, while cuy eat hay and plant waste, and need only a little supplemental vegetables. Additionally, unlike chicken, they produce cold manure which can be used directly in the garden without composting.

We have a dog exercise pen we can move abound the yard for fresh foraging. Treating your animals with the upmost respect is very important for the vibration the meat gives off when eaten. (Cuts down on cancer)
Lots of sun, exercise, socializing and good forage is key. Alot of farms don't understand how important this is to our food. The more you give, the more you get. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

My bad 😔.it was really cute, I wanted a pet so bad, & I wanted it, damnit! We kept it for a bit. But then my mom said she gave it to a farm while I was gone.
My parents have no shame. Also, I'm the first to even be born in the us. So my parents are def still stuck in their roots. If they ate dogs & cats, they would've done so. In front of me. They didn't. Instead, they slaughtered a cow in front of me. Ate it's tongue. My mom picked up a squirrel off the Rd before too. She's made frog legs. They always ate sushi. They also ate fish heads. And other weird parts of a cow. Also, chicken feet. But as my years have progressed, I realized that Americans eat the same sh. If not worse at times. I never had sushi till my 20s. I never had deer till my mid till late 20s. I tried alligator in my mid 30s. That's as odd as I've got. I tried like one grasshopper once. Oh wait, then there's that balut. But I always just ate the yoke part. And my elders would always give me sh saying how I was too americanized... go figure. That I always wasted stuff. But to each their own.
I still never ate guinea pig tho. That's def. not some common s.e.asian thing. I didn't know they even existed till some yrs back. Or prob way earlier. But I prob just let it register more when I had a kid myself. Bc she's an animal lover. Of all the sorts. Even wanted a snake at a time. Till she realized that they ate rodents.
