I saw a comment saying STi is better than M. A true carfreak appreciates both. I love my 08 Subaru Impreza WRX hatchback. And I love every true M sport icon. The person driving the E36 is clearly a very good driver picking the right line without much correction. Great driving and great video. Love your car bro.
atlantic if u keep it stock its no problem, problem is when someone turn up the boost for more hp (which many do) its not built for that hp but they still run with it as long as it works. Impreza is a good handling car but I prefer bigger engines with no turbo, because if turbo or anything fails u have a big and costy problem

No no no no, AWD you cannot apply throttle mid turn or you will lift he front and understeer. AWD's advantage is putting power down coming out of the turn. So many AWD misconceptions here. He absolutely is not full throttle in that turn he's not on the throttle AT ALLL, you can see him go full throttle as soon as he gets the wheels straight and he pulls away.

Owning a Subaru, a lot of the "fastness" comes from maintaining consistent velocity through corners and getting on the gas early, letting the suspension and AWD "soak" up a lot of the elevation and braking effort through corners, while you enjoy being able to plant your foot on the floor much sooner than you would in most RWD cars of the same power... It isn't a great car for training to be a racer, other than consistency. The AWD and softer suspension allows you to get away with a lot of mistakes without putting the car's balance, or speed, at risk, and the power is best laid down with the fewest gear changes as a must. At worst, the thing is boring. At best, nobody can really say what it was that beat them - the car or the driver. And you do need a bit more power to whoop ass compared to 2WD of any sort. Also don't forget the Bimmer is like a decade older than that Scoobie... probably more mods, too. I agree that the Subaru is probably faster... and around the Nurburgring, that is a really bold statement. But it's not by much... and I am curious to know what class these two cars would be racing against each other, if you you really wanted to put it to a test. In any case, this is a great performance by both drivers. An excellent Turbo-4 vs. N/A Inline 6. In terms of handling each car - You can see where the comfort of the Subaru driver breaks when they are truly pushed, and the determination of the BMW driver fails when they become too confident - but just barely in either case.
Awesome skills! Real pleasure to watch. Although I'm a big fan of the STI I have no doubt that in this comparison you're the better driver. Straights are for fast cars. Corners are for fast drivers.
Subarú STI , the best of two worlds , very fast in highway and one of the best in Snow , mud , 3 times world. champion in rallyes etc And the M3 ? Just fast

Subaru sounds like it's running awful tyres, he should be pulling away harder in the corners and out of them; you can see it's destroying the M car on the straight. Driver probably just needs a bit more confidence.
Yea, I noticed that too. E36 was closing while braking and on the turns, but Subie pulled away on the straights. But what I like in that video was the fact E36 drive enjoyed that "rivalry" and gave thumb up to Impreza driver
The Subaru driver also wasn’t using smooth turns. Looked like he was jerking the steering throwing the car off balance. Although it looked like it was on stock suspension too with a lot of power, so he was probably fighting the lack of balance between power/suspension and the constant elevation changes.
it looks that way, but the impreza is know for this style, unstable mid corner and power out. not the most efficient or smooth car to drive. I had one, you could get it really moving around mid corner then just plant the throttle and it would pull out of any shape. great fun, not so smooth. really nice lines from the bmw driver though.
Garrett Parker being AWD it has a mix of understeer and oversteer. Mid corner, right as it begins to understeer you can stab the throttle and steer into it and plant it to force the rear around to then power out. Cause of this it’ll often drift out wide a tad right before mid corner, but then cut back across.

You're a very skilled driver, especially if you E36 M3 is stock, because it's not as well balanced as the Subaru Impreza WRX and has really poor brakes!
All the butthurt people commenting... lol I love both cars and I own a Subie. Obviously both cars are modded. And obviously both cars approach a turn diff hence rwd vs awd. The Subaru had insane turn in speeds and rocketed out of the s turns. Each drives completely different. Pretty great race if you ask me. Both were respectful and were having fun. Both cars are great for different things.
exactly. The STI was cooking and was entering crazy fast and using the AWD traction to get straight before he would apply throttle and scream out of the corners. The fact he is able to corner that fast and not understeer proves he knows what he's doing.

Do they not realize, by restricting the movement of the body via double shoulder harnesses (good), that, in the case of on track incidence, they are focusing the expression of that potential incidence to solely the necks of the driver & passenger... It's a nice car. Now, if you chose to play at this level, make the effort to protect the driver and passenger with a HANS device at the very minimum. Fair?

I've had about 200k on my stock one, they're also dime a dozen and it'd be back on the track a lot sooner then an M car after it throws a bearing.

If u can't drive.I've never seen an understeer Subaru driven by a specialist. Subaru is as fast as a driver.

Das fahrwerk vom sti scheint aber sehr merkwürdig abgestimmt zu sein, sieht in jeder kurve so aus als ob er vorne rüberschiebt und sein heck springt..
