    Shorshe Maach (Bengali Style Mustard Fish Curry)

    Ingredients :
    For Marinating Fish :
    500 grams - Fish (Cleaned & Cut Pieces/Fillets)
    ½ tsp - Turmeric
    1 tsp - Red Chilli Powder
    ½ tsp - Salt (As Needed)
    For Making Mustard Paste :
    ½ tsp - Poppy Seeds (10 Minutes Soaked And Drained)
    1½ tbsp - Yellow Mustard Seeds (10 Minutes Soaked And Drained)
    1½ tbsp - Mustard Seeds (Brown/Black) (10 Minutes Soaked And Drained)
    ¾ cup - Freshly Grated Coconut
    5 - Slit Green Chilies
    1 cup - Water (For Grinding)
    ½ cup - Water (For Straining)
    For Making Shorshe Maach :
    3 tbsp - Mustard Oil (As Needed)
    ⅛ tsp - Cumin
    ⅛ tsp - Mustard
    ⅛ tsp - Fennel Seeds
    ⅛ tsp - Fenugreek Seeds (Methi Dana)
    ¼ tsp - Kalonji (Onion Seeds)
    ½ tsp - Ginger Garlic Paste
    ½ cup - Chopped Onion
    ⅛ tsp - Turmeric
    ¼ cup - Chopped Tomato
    2 - Slit Green chilies
    ½ tsp - Salt (As Needed)
    1½ cup - Water
    2 tbsp - Chopped Coriander Leaves
    Directions :
    For Marinating Fish :
    In a plate take 500 grams fish (cleaned & cut pieces/fillets)
    Add ½ tsp turmeric
    Add 1 tsp red chili powder
    Add ½ tsp salt
    Mix well
    Keep it aside
    For Making Mustard Paste :
    In a grinding jar, add ½ tsp poppy seeds (10 minutes soaked)
    Add 1½ tbsp yellow mustard seeds (10 minutes soaked)
    Add 1½ tbsp mustard seeds (brown/black) (10 minutes soaked)
    Add ¾ cup freshly grated coconut
    Add 5 slit green chilies
    Add 1 cup water
    Grind to a smooth paste
    Strain the paste with strainer
    Add ½ cup water
    Strain the paste
    Keep it aside
    For Making Shorshe Maach :
    On a medium heated pan, add 3 tbsp mustard oil
    Add the marinated fish
    Fry until crisp on both sides
    Remove the fish in a plate and keep it aside
    Add ⅛ tsp cumin
    Add ⅛ tsp mustard
    Add ⅛ tsp fennel seeds (Saunf)
    Add ⅛ tsp fenugreek seeds (methi dana)
    Add ¼ tsp kalonji (onion seeds)
    Add ½ tsp ginger garlic paste
    Saute for a few seconds
    Add ½ cup chopped onion
    Saute onion until soft
    Add ⅛ tsp turmeric
    Mix well
    Add ¼ cup chopped tomato
    Add 2 slit green chilies
    Add ½ tsp salt
    Saute until the tomato becomes soft
    Add mustard paste
    Add 1½ cup water
    Mix well
    Let it simmer
    Add 500 grams fried fish fillets
    Mix well
    On low heat, cover and cook for 10 minutes and stir periodically
    Add 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
    Mix well
    Remove the Shorshe Maach In a plate
    Shorshe Maach is ready to serve
