  • These Narnia Movie Characters Should Have Looked Way Different According To The Books.

    C.S. Lewis gave millions of kids across the globe a childhood that involved magical wardrobes, fairytale creatures, and some pretty epic characters. In 2005 when Disney decided to adapt The Chronicles of Narnia into a franchise, the film got hype around the world and even went on to rival the Harry Potter franchise. Casting amazing actors like William Moseley, Anna Popplewell, and Peter Dinklage, our favorite characters came to life on screen. But if you were a fan of the book series you might have realized that no matter how epic the actors were...they didn’t exactly resemble what C.S. Lewis wrote in his book. In fact, some were drastically different.
    We’re here to show you just how different The Chronicles of Narnia could have been if the casting director decided to stick exactly to the books. Let’s just say, you’re in for a huge surprise. The White Witch was basically an entirely different character and you definitely wouldn't have recognized Prince Caspian. Not to mention Mr. Tumnus was meant to actually have red skin. You heard us! But the question is, did the films or books do it better?
    Which character do you think had the most shocking difference? Did getting all this info make you look at the films differently? Maybe it’s time to give the novels a read? Let us know all your royal thoughts in the comment section below. Don’t forget to hit that subscribe button and give this video a thumbs up. Time to climb out of the wardrobe!

    I do care if the difference is gigantic (Percy Jackson movies for example) and/or has a reason (How Harry’s eyes were supposed to be green, a resemblance to his mother).
    In Narnia’s case, the actors fit the part perfectly. Their hair may be different from the book, but the “vibe” they have fits into the characters.
    I don’t think I could imagine Narnia with other actors, maybe I’m just too attached to my childhood memories haha. I remember seeing this when it first came out at the cinema, I miss those times.

    I have read the books, listened to the audio books a million times, watched all the bbc movies, started a Narnia Club as an 8 year old, and went crazy over everything Narnia! I don’t think the deference’s between the movie casting and the original character descriptions were that deferent. The dwarves were portrayed almost perfectly. The Pevensie children-aside from some hair colour deference’s- were portrayed perfectly. The Witch aside from hair colour was portrayed perfectly. The only I’d say they did wrong was Prince Caspian(although the actor was extremely handsome and the personality was pretty accurate) the fact that he’s dark when Telmerines were very clearly described as light and fair…..just kinda weird. Other then that the rest of the cast was great! Loved the movies!

  • @oougahersharr
    @oougahersharr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    I always despised Susan in the books. She was too much like my own older sister. But I loved Susan in the movies. I think Anna did the character better and her translation of the character was very good (without the arrogance of the original). In other words (book spoiler), I could care less if Susan ever got back to Narnia in the Last Battle, book. But I wanted very much to let the movie Susan get back into Narnia if they'd done the Last Battle.
    And there is a description of Edmund: in Prince Caspian. Prince Caspian is a blond/ blue eyed thirteen year old but when Peter sends an emissary (Edmund) to meet with the king, the king at first thinks it's his nephew Caspian. It turns out to be Edmund, thus he is blond with blue eyes. Also, in The Horse and His Boy, Lucy and Edmund are listed as tow headed or fair haired (blonds), while Susan is the dark beauty or the raven haired one (black or dark brown). Peter is also golden haired according to The Horse and HIs Boy, per the books. I think he is also described in The Last Battle as blond.
    Mr. Tumnus' appearance was deliberately softened for the movie, as the original is often thought to be too "devil" looking. Also, the movie shortened his tail, which he could drape over his arm in the book. The reason they chose Ben for Caspian was everything to do with the Telmarians being Mediterranean pirates. Thus, they looked for someone who could do the accent. The only one they found was Ben, who was too old and dark, but they went with it and adjusted the story to go with it. Thus we get the romance between 16 year old Susan and Caspian. Eustace is described in the Silver Chair.
    Some of the descriptions are given in the books that never got filmed. (Professor Kirk is described in The Magician's Nephew, but of curse he's about 13 in that). And Trumpkin has another description (very old by then) in The Silver Chair. And everyone, except Susan, is described in The Last Battle at one point or another.

    I’m an avid Book reader, I read all of the Narnia books at least twice each. And I agree with almost everything in this video. The only thing she forgot, was truffle hunter. The books describe truffle hunter as an old badger with graying fur, in the movie however he says he is old, but still has sleek black fur.

    I actually really liked the outfit for Father Christmas in the most recent film. It really seems to fit the mood better and signify the struggle it had been to return to Narnia. Besides, I think that Narnia's Father Christmas should have his own look. (as much as I love the long red garment that our Father Christmas wears!)

Um yes hi hardcore Narnia fan here, and because I'm a hardcore Narnia fan, these differences do not shock me. I've been obsessing over them half my life. Also, it's PEV-en-see, not puh-VIN-zee. And Skandar's last name is only one syllable. And don't get me started on how Jadis was pronounced. Lastly, I can't even finish watching this video because the narrator clearly doesn't know the source material well enough to pronounce anything right.

    They did give the witch shoes that were several inches high to make look tall. She is half giant in the books so she really isn’t massive. I think she looked tall in the movie and they really show that well in the movie when she picks up Edmund in his prison cell. If you look at the picture of Jadis in The Magicians Nephew, you will see that she looks very similar to size in the Narnia movies.

    • @julia_x8647
      @julia_x8647 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Edmund is actually the most misunderstood character ever. He’s honestly a wonderful character that has been through a lot. He was always blamed for everything, suffering from loss, loved his father deeply and sacrificed his life to save him, he was lost and didn’t have a role model to look after. The war also didn’t serve him well, his emotions weren’t understood by adults yet he was ruled by his older brother who suddenly became the leader of the family which Edmund strictly disagreed with. Sadly people can’t see the deep symbolism in this character and the fact that he actually suffered the most. Always in the middle, going through such shocking war experiences that touched him the most, he suffered emotionally blaming his brother - as Peter was suddenly the replacement of his beloved father. He was a fighter for his own rights. So sad that people still don’t understand Edmund.

      Really? But when he’s mentioned in Horse and His Boy, there’s something so noble about him. In fact, wouldn’t he be most attractive character because of the incredible change he goes through? He’s the epitome of redemption.

    Actually it might be an improvement on the book (I find it hard to suggest such a thing) that Father Christmas was different. I looks like (from this video) the book may have described him to much like the Thomas Nast version Santa Claus which might have been to "cartooney" the movie had him more like the deeper European traditional Father Christmas.
