    6:37 Alfonzo Freeman, Morgan Freeman's son, provides Red's parole photo's. He's also the "We're reel'n 'em in" guy in the crowd when Andy arrives. Some external locations show in the film are actually inside or near the prison. Brooks' and Red's room in the Brewer is actually a room inside the prison, and the rock wall and tree are located near by. The owner of the property sold most of the rocks, and the tree was damaged by a lightning strike but still stands. Over half of the prison has been torn down to make room for another prison. Only the forward section remains.

    Excellent reaction from you both! You might be surprised to know that during its first theatrical run, this movie didn't last very long. In fact, we missed it because it was gone after just a few weeks, and so, we had to wait for it to be released on tape (VHS!). It was only in the later years during the VHS (and then DVD, and later Blu-Ray) days , that it developed such a huge following.
    During those years, Shawshank used to be on TV on different channels from time to time. Whenever I stumbled on the movie during such runs, I would stay put and watch it till the end. That's why I have seen the start of this movie maybe a few dozen times but have seen the end a few hundred times!

      @TheCluelessCritics  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      WOW. I thought about this after watching. I think if I see a movie taking place in a prison, my opinion of the characters is largely influenced by the crimes they committed. But in this movie, I felt like I grew to love these characters for who they were as people inside the prison, not for the crimes they committed outside - BUT I also didn't even know what most of them were in for. Knowing what Brooks actually did inevitably makes it hard to reconcile how I felt about him, with such a horrible crime he committed. This is such an interesting story overall, so thought-provoking! Anyway, thanks for watching with us!!

    Afternoon. Although set in Maine, the prison used was the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. The large main building and Cell Block 1 are now a Museum. They offer tours, can be used for special occasions, and offer overnight cell accommodations for the brave. ( haunted ) The street scenes were primarily N. Main St where the shop owners agreed to have their stores redone to fit the time period. Many still look the same. The halfway house is the Bissman Building, and still looks the same today. (It was a beer distributor, hence the name "Brewery") The store was the E and B Market on 4th Street which has been torn down. I was fortunate to be an extra con in the yard scenes. The premiere was held at Mansfield's Renaissance Theatre, a restored 1929 movie palace, before New York and Los Angeles. I volunteered working the theatre restoration. The prison was also used in the movie "Tango & Cash” and was the Russian cell block in "Airforce One". An interesting side note: In the bad winters, crows from 7 or 8 counties move into Mansfield by the hundreds due to large granaries that used to be between town and the prison. Brook's crow was a natural. The passage of time from the unfiltered Chesterfields to the filtered cigarettes offered Tommy by the warden, and the subtle aging of everyone is superb. Many people miss the subtlety of when Brooks left the prison, you see the prison through the gates, and when Red left you are looking forward over the fields toward the town. And they don't notice when the warden opens the Bible and finds the cut out, that it is the book of Exodus! I am 75 now with Parkinson's and don't get to attend movies very often. I enjoy the reaction videos on TH-cam.

    You guys are off to a great start, audio glitches notwithstanding. I just wonder if you truly understood the story because so many people get this wrong. Who do you think got redeemed? This is an allegorical story and the innocent man who was wrongly accused, who brought hope to a world of sinners and escaped by staging a suicide fake-out, passing through Hell, and ending up in Paradise, leaving behind a document that invites the one who loves and believes in him to follow him to Paradies, should be easy to name. I have not looked yet, but if you have not reacted to The Green Mile, You really should. It is a very similar movie in some significant ways and very different in others. reacting to it soon and comparing the two will add depth to your understanding and raise the quality of your discussion. It will help you to stand out in a crowded field. (Just my 2 cents)

    And where in the Bible did Andy place the rock hammer? A very suitable title page, I think you'd agree: EXODUS!!! Andy had a great sense of humor! I like to think that Brooks is no longer alone in that rooming house room now that Red left HIS message!

    Hi girls, great reaction, and end of movie reaction you got it spot on
    im 60 years old, and can remember when the movie came out, before your time, it was the time of video films that you rented, at the box office, the movie did not do so well, from the critics and so on, like yourselfs, decades on, it gained traction through word and mouth, people started to rent the film, tell others, some people may have bought it, probably a pirate in thise days, some would buy it, and then copy it to another video cassette and sell them for a couple pounds a go, $2.00 if your from america.

    The warden was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
    Ever read The Count of Monte Cristo? It is A-MA-ZING!! Quite a few parallels between it and Shawshank. It’s a masterpiece! Has just about everything. Read it UN-abridged
    Alternate ending:
    Andy’s letter: You remember the name of the town don’t you?
    Red:.......AW CRAP!
