The protest large numbers of young people In Thailand began against the regime in July still rage on, defying an emergency decree. What is the protest about? How Thai politics resembles Pakistan and where it differs. Thailand’s tumultuous and unique political system, the military-monarchy nexus, make it the world’s most unique occasional ‘democracy,’ so conveniently inured to bloodless military coups. Shekhar Gupta explains in #CutTheClutter Episode 600 how this is under challenge now.

The graveyard of empires and dynasties is filled up due to the simple conundrum: what to do when the son of the king is a idiot.
Then outsider comes in and creates his own system
In medieval times outsider used to be a governor or local satraps
Thakshin was a trump of Thailand only less outrageous and very savvy.
Thai system has many parallels with Iran

I love you ShekharJi. I find myself watching all your videos as you provide very intelligent analysis. But I do find it tough sitting thru because of your presentation style. You have talked about this that because you being a HMT (hindi medium types) english is not primary language so you have to think in Hindi and translate it to english. But the problem is not the language but your hand gestures. I think your hand gestures are aligned with the hindi track running in your brain so it moves a few milliseconds before the english words comes out of your mouth.
That makes it bit painful to watch as a lot of times it feels like I am watching a Indian kid struggling to recite a memorized english essay in front of the classroom and struggling to get the words out smoothly. Lol Its almost as if the video and audio are out of synch and the video is moving faster than the audio.
I accept this quirk "as is" and at this age will not demand that you attempt to change your presentation or speaking style. :-)
But again love your content and am a loyal follower. Cheers.

CtC has certainly got the technical sequence of events correct .... as, prima facie, a version of facts .... and "facts" are always a version of the particular researcher ..... where it has failed is to capture the free spirit of Thailand .... particularly, comparing it to pak : a non starter
Thailand has traversed number of political upheavals .... public life has, as always, hardly been afftected .... how many countries can even say that?!
King Bhumibhol Adulyadej was a most revered and much loved monarch
Women safety is high on agenda in Thailand
Even on date, women leave work late into the night (from, say, 711s) and travel back home by themselves : SAFE
Gas stations are attended by women, during night hours : SAFE
Women dress exactly how they want without fear of leers or sexist comments ; they are asking for it etc. They are SAFE
And, to date Thailand life has not been constricted by covid lockdowns ....they are getting it right .... Thailand has a pre-existing culture of wearing masks .... mainly to protect the people around
So, CtC comparing this beautiful country to pak or even others with low womens safety and low culture, well as low quality of life, is not 'cruel', it is incorrect!

Chakri dynasty is more than 200 years old..Rama I ascended 1782. The Thai monarchy is much much older....Also, Thailand has a permanent civil service which continues economic policies.
