BTW: It's weird to think that this was 63 years ago. For them in 1951, 63 years ago was 1888!

musicaltheatergeek79 Yeah, I do that kind've thing a lot to. Like to me, the 70s don't seem that long ago. But if you think of 1915, the 1870s seemed like a LONG time before that.

+musicaltheatergeek79 Why, that's amusing if you come to think of it. My impulse is to make several calculations when I see a year like "this was about some x years before internet" etc, but I hadn't thought of doing that one before. Doing that is pretty interesting too.

+musicaltheatergeek79 im not sure if this is a weird phenomenon coz I do that too. Back in 1999 when I was 17, we were watching the TV counting down for the New Year. I remember feeling so excited because there was so much fuss about the Y2K bug back then. As the countdown was about to begin.. I thought to myself, did the people in the year 1000 AD ever thought of what it's like to be in the year 2000, what life and the world would be like? yet here I am alive and present going into the year 2000 wondering what life and the world will be like in the year 3000. And by that time, will there be a person like myself who will also think of what I just thought as well? really weird...we should make a club for people who think like you and me.

The academy sure has changed since 1951. Today we love to see our favorite actors and actresses shine glowing in glory with a gracious acceptance speech. Back then, they were quitely escorted off stage without recognition or an acceptance speech. Grateful for the evolution for all actors and actresses to be recognized along with gratitude for their craft. Thank you Marilyn Monroe~ :) Gorgeous as ever.

should have a look at the footage of her in "All About Eve" in which she played a young starlet,
attending the party accompanied by the Hollywood Critic, and where Margo (Bette Davis)
declares to everyone they should "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night."
Marilyn is DEFINITELY Platinum Blonde in that movie, and obviously, "All About Eve",

Marilyn was so much more than she's made out to be on the surface! Read her bio, her poems, her letters---she really wanted to improve herself but felt so low because of what happened to her as an orphan. I am almost done with her autobiography and I almost cried, it was so honest, so different than other Hollywood bios! I can't believe she was told she was unphotogenic at first! ALL ABOUT EVE was unstoppable that year. It was a huge hit (bigger than CINDERELLA), and it swept the Oscars that night, winning 6, including Best Picture and Director. In fact, the film is tied with TITANIC and now LA LA LAND with the most Oscar nominations for a single film: 14. Usually, when a film has that kind of momentum, it picks up a shitload of awards, even if they're not warranted (e.g. THE ENGLISH PATIENT).
