Gemma Gary notes that “It may perhaps be the Church, in its keenness to eradicate adherence to Pagan divinity by grafting and projecting it onto the diabolical, that has, unwittingly, most thoroughly preserved the potency, liberation and illumination of the “Old One’ and handed him back to the Witches as the ‘Devil’.”
I'm glad you addressed this subject. Your discussion was very interesting and "food for thought". I honestly don't see how one could discuss the folklore of witches without at some point addressing diabolical witchcraft. It is simply part of the folklore. You can deny the devil all you want but the folklore is there. Also I know Wiccans who believe in Satan though he has no place in their practice. I myself don't believe in a Satan figure but do believe in dark forces. But honestly the greatest evils I have seen are those from the minds and hearts of man.
Plainly the person leaving this comment had never listened to the podcast! (Thanks for NWW, by the way; it's probably my favorite podcast to listen to.) Keep up the great work, and say hi to Laine for me!
Long time follower first time commenting :) I recently purchased New World Witchery and it is by far my current favorite book. I can understand it may not be for some people but I genuinely believe this book should be a primer for anyone who has even a passing interest in folk magic. Just wanted to say that and to thank you for all the time and effort and wheverer else we will never know you poured into this book, (Your material means more to me than I could possibly express on a TH-cam comment, please keep up the amazing work, it is appreciated tremendously. Coming from a 30 yo male but I wanna be you when I grow up 😁☺️😋
The Devil of folklore in Spain is very similar to that of other areas of Europe, it's consistent. Too long to explain but He is for instance a figure appearing in some old Carnivals (very ancient rituals in the guise of folkloric dances or theatrical displays, the "Carnaval de Bielsa" is a good example) where horned beasts end up being appeased by a pretty virginal woman who symbolises spring, for instance. We have tales of people helped by the Devil or tricked by him, or he being tricked by a human. There's these two aspects: the formidable entity you can't outsmart, ancient, wise, powerful, fearsome, linked to Nature, storms, death, fertility, and the trickster figure that you can make fun of, so to say. I know that the Devil is very real, an entity that is part of this World. Many people can't handle that He might be real , it shatters their world, so to say, the scientific base on what our modern civilization is based. People love safety, rules, and stability. They fear the unknown, they panic if they don't know what to expect and the logic behind things is not quite "rational".
Being part native American, Irish and Scottish new world witchery podcast is my top favorite podcasts next to darkness radio, and paranormal hotline, and down at the crossroads
Priests and Christian Theologians label any deity other than their One God as "The Devil", so for Christians Pan, Herne, Cernunnos etc, are mixed together as "The Devil".
I haven’t had the pleasure to purchase your book as of yet that is? I must say that it is the next one my extensive list now? I read the reviews and I have to say that if I had written & received any one of the reviews from the people you did I’d be beyond thrilled? From what I can ascertain I’m missing out since I don’t currently have it in my hands? I’m a practicing witch myself as most that have given your book rave reviews are & I would hope that after seeing what other books T.M. has read that her review would never ever be a review that someone would take seriously? I’m so looking forward to reading something that actually has the knowledge & bite most of us have been dreaming of for far too long? Waiting with baited breath & wild anticipation.Blessed Be🔮
Trying to remove evil or darkness or "the devil" from any part of life is odd to me. You don't have to work with it but you can't pretend it's not part of it. Dark and light are part of everything.

I think you made it very clear! There is more than one path and people need to remember that when reading a book BUT you stated that in your book.

Gotta be diplomatic and cater to the simpletons.
