I just love the view on the New. I stopped working in private yachting 30 years ago. So beautiful there.

I live waterfront two miles up the Middle River from the Galleria, and lately the boat traffic behind my house has been a bit quiet. Plenty of kayaks and paddle boarders from the place on Federal hwy just south of 26th street, but not too many boats.
I was allowed to actually tour the 103 foot yacht SETTE at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and it was impressive! $2.8 million, but the cost per hour to operate.....

@@stevewisniewski5860 Lot of twists & turns there. That's an iconic huge Spanish style mansion at the end of Ponce De Leon Dr. that I've seen hundreds of times out on the water. The boats are passing that house which is off their starboard side. It's a tight goose-neck turn coming up next which means they will continue to head east, to maybe Bahia Mar or more likely south to Miami. No worries✌

I assume they were leaving because of the storm passing through the east coast at the moment? Was a wet and windy one felt like a tropical depression.

Why do those big yachts need to be towed out? Why can’t they leave under their own power?
They can't afford the fuel.
There are some really tight turns. Handling at slow speeds leaves them susceptible to wind and currents. Last thing you want is having your rear end catching a gust of wind in a turn
New River and Tarpon River bend. Squirly, busy, and tight turns.
The river is so narrow they look for the added assistance of the tow boats to help swing them around.

Why are all these yachts leaving mid winter? It would seem they'd be coming into Florida from colder parts unknown? Or, they are going south for even warmer weather?

all of these mega yachts are being towed. Maybe they were deemed derelict vessels? I used to live in Fort Lauderdale. And worked on some yachts. And have been up and down the New River many times.
I guess it's cheaper to tug than to start the engines.

If it Floats or it Flys, never buy, just rent. The mantra of the truly rich. 20 years of driving Riverland road looking at rusty scupper behemoths which never moved, but required the paid services of a live-in sitter to protect the owner's interests parked in those finger canalets reinforced the validity of the truly rich's wisdom.

Why were those first ones using tugs? The channel seems plenty wide and a reasonably experienced crew should be able to move them through without that much fuss
Some insurance companies require it. There are some that I see and I think the same thing. Ray Charles could drive some of them out.
