      I love watching your videos. I wish you were my best friend because girl I know you would have me right. I find it so hard to get the protein in 1500-1600 calories. A lot of recipes I look up I don't like. I suppose I have to play with it and tweak it to my personal style and write it down until I get the numbers write but that is so overwhelming for me. Thanks for always sharing and being there lol. Have a great weekend.

      Question: you are very focused on stregnth & hypertrophy, it appears. The past year, I've gotten seriously into lifting myself. I lift 6/days a week, but I'd still say I'm just "moderately" active. To maximize my muscle gains (was very, very out of shape and weak 14 months ago, and at 52 in late perimenopause, I decided it was a 5 alarm fire). Anyway, I slowly increased my calories to where I could maintain. (I dropped a massive amount of weight by upping my calories, quadrupling my protein ...and finally having the energy to move. Funny things happen, I found, when I actually fuel my body. Go figure!) I'm trying to be in a small caloric surplus since hypertrophy is my #1 goal right now.
      Long intro to my question: the video says this day was about 1600 calories. That surprised me. Am I just a freak who needs 2350 calories? Are you in a cutting phase?

    Great protein tip with the powdered peanut butter! I’ve missed peanut butter since having to adopt a low fat diet due to cholesterol. I would love your tips on how to not lose that relationship when you suddenly have to adopt a more restrictive and specialized diet due to a health concern.

My GI doctor requested I find a nutritionist and I wanted someone who specialized in SIBO and I was easily able to find one on Nourish. I love this video for so many reasons which includes that @CleanandDeliciousDani shares my namesake. I also love the topic of eating off of a plate instead of out of a bag at 15:30. My husband will eat out of a bag and aside from the health benefits of eating from a plate (he is trying to loose some lbs) it also appeases my sound irritation of the crinkling bag when we are watching something.

    Just shows it’s necessary to find our own path of sustained protein consumption. 2 meals is plenty for those like me to get enough protein and fat for prolonged satiety. I prefer feeling this way. It’s good though being given other options so we can choose but not blindly follow.

    I just started following Dani Spies and watched this video previously. While I do like a lot of her content, I do have a question about the 1600 calorie count because I too am trying to gain muscle at 50 years old. And I do find it difficult to eat more calories to gain more muscle, just as a normal weight conscious woman. At 1800 calories, I'm not really gaining a lot of muscle. I've been trying for a year and a half and in the last 6 months I've gained 3 lbs of muscle, but it is such a slow process. I wasn't tracking my protein intake until recently and so I wasn't consuming a lot of protein until recently. So my question while may be better directed to a nutritionist specializing in strength training. Is 1600 calories enough to gain muscle? Some bodybuilders have said that the macronutrients don't matter that much as the amount of calories consumed. Is it enough to sustain the energy to continue going to the gym to strength train on top of life and a healthy amount of cardio. Anyways. I only noticed the calorie count in the second viewing. Would love your opinion because I'm considering adding more calories to my daily intake along with 120 g of protein per day. Also, ready if the answer it depends on the person, yadda yadda yadda... ✌

    • @marnijay2486
      @marnijay2486 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well done on your gains! 👏 I’m sure it depends on the person (yada yada), but personally I couldn’t sustain effective weight training with only 1600 calories. I tried tracking around 1800 calories a day for a while, whilst strength training, and was losing weight slowly (not the intention) and not feeling super energetic. And I’m a short 47yo woman. All that said, I could only manage up to 80g protein a day, and that became a stretch and a chore. I don’t track calories or macros any more, it just became burdensome. Good luck to you!

    You need to do a "Meals on the Field" cookbook! I don't have kids, but love the idea of easy to eat meals to go.
    I loved her snack idea, as well on your wisdom on mindless eating. I particularly like foods that take a long time to eat (roasted chickpeas/soybeans, celery, raw veg, popcorn, homemade popsicles, etc) as it takes a long time for me to get the "full" signal. Celery's role in diet culture has besmirched its name. I love it spread with a wee bit of Pimiento Cheese and a drizzle of hot sauce :D

    So can I just ask because I am confused about protein and its health benefits especially, the long term benefits. I understand we all need adequate protein in our diet but there is a lot of reseach which suggests that a diet that is high in protein over an extend period, especially when this protein is from meat is perhaps not that great for us and could have quite negative impacts on our cardiovascular health and may contribute to increased risk of metabolic disorders and cancer. If you eat a lot of protein every day then yes you are building muscle but by activating the Mtor pathway and staying in a "growth" state then the process of autophagy is inhibited. Autophagy is what allows our body to clear out cellular waste and recycle old and damged proteins and it is this process that can help defend us against cancer for example. It seems that at least some of our protein requirement can be ment by the body performing this process but the body will use dietary protein when it is available over performing autophagy. So wouldn't it be best to eat a more modest amount of protein to allow your body to do its clean and recycle process? I don't actually know what is best here I just wonder what the actual truth is and if anyone actually knows? I
    I understand that protein and strength is really important and that entering our later years with a decent amount of muscle and strength is vital to healthy aging but sometimes I wonder if the focus on protein is more that people are more focused on their current gains, how the feel and the weight control factor than the overall big picture of health long term. I'd love your take on this!

    I think sodium intake isn't really considered or mentioned by fitness and food content creators. Its effect on daily weigh ins and chronic health conditions is almost glossed over or ignored when considering diets and meal plans. Demonising carbs and fats instead as the culprits for being up and I say this as a person who has cut carbs and fats severely only to show no change until I examined my sodium intake.

    What about the gut cleaning process (MTOR?), which isn't activated until 3 hours and 45 minutes after a meal? Nutritionists, such as Autumn Bates, push this concept of NEVER snacking in between meals. (Which is very hard for an older woman like myself, who deadlifts heavy weight 3 times a week). I get hungry. In between lunch and dinner! Is it significant to stimulate MTOR after every.single.meal?

Long term it gives people kidney issues. I told him fitness influencers are pushing it left and right and he told me to stay away. Just sharing!

      When muscles heal there's water retention. Your MD could be confused with that. Creatine shouldnt be labelled by an MD as "bad for us", especially when there is extensive research showing otherwise.

The fact that Medicare will ONLY cover nutritional counseling if I have diabetes or renal failure (Nourish confirmed this on their website) is a death sentence. 🤦‍♀️

    Since you mention creatine, I have a question. I was taking creatine as a daily supplement for about three months last year. In that time I saw no noticeable improvements in muscle gain, exercise performance or cognitive performance. What I did notice, however, was none of my bras fitting anymore!! My breasts felt very swollen and sore, like they do in the week leading up to my period. I had to go back to an old bra that was two cup sizes larger for comfort. Within ten days of stopping the creatine, the soreness completely disappeared and they went back to their normal size. I can find plenty of anecdotes online from women talking about increased breast size from creatine, but nothing scientific. Is this a documented phenomenon?

    Will you review Dy Ann Parham and her 20:4 fasting for pre and menopausal women? I’d like to hear your opinion on such a short eating window. I can’t understand how you can get all of your nutrition and protein in. Dy Ann just answers the question stating it’s not a problem. I tried a couple of days and couldn’t even come close. You can’t get seem to get real answers unless you sign up for her class. She’s not a RD just claims a Nutritionist and Women’s coach so I’m pretty skeptical. Thanks

      @@BestLifeMD Well as I wrote above I tried for a couple of days and it didn’t work for me. I’d like Abby’s opinion on this fasting/feasting plan, perhaps I didn’t do something correctly. Abby probably won’t have time to do a video on it but still it was worth requesting.

    I'm an American living in Italy and I just went to a nutritionist for the first time ever, recommended by my doctor. They don't know me, don't know my history... I've been losing weight successfully and slowly by counting calories and macros... Anyway, I went because I was told she would talk about my metabolism and measure my body composition- I was curious.. Paid good money.
    She did not talk about my body comp. She refused to advise me on calories and macros based on my weight and metabolism, etc. Instead, she gave me a meal plan for 1 week. I plugged it in to myfitnesspal just out of curiosity... she was literally telling me to eat under 1200 calories per day. And she said I would have to go back to her every 20 days (paying a lot of money each time) for her to tell me exactly what to eat (without mentioning why that specific food, what macros/calories), - ie it's summer, so eat watermelon, "but in the winter you will need to eat different fruit because it's a different season, so you'll have to keep coming back"
    Like, I'm sorry but she just wants my money. She's not interested in educating people on how to be able to take control of their lives and how they eat. She wants them dependent on her 100%.
    I LOVE THAT YOUR CHANNEL ACTUALLY EQUIPS PEOPLE TO HAVE AN EDUCATION ABOUT FOOD SO THEY CAN PROPERLY FUEL THEMSELVES REGARDLESS OF WHERE THEY ARE, WHAT THEY ARE DOING, WHAT SEASON IT IS.
    I cannot tell you how beyond angry this expensive private nutritionist made me. I already know what I'm doing and I'm just mad at myself I gave this bozo my time and money. What a waste.
    And you are so validating in mentioning that what we eat needs to taste good, food makes us feel emotions, we need to feel satisfied....... this nutritionist didn't include ANYTHING enjoyable or flavorful (80g plain whole wheat pasta with plain boiled vegetables). Like sorry that won't work and it's a fast track to a binge IMO.
    Sorry for the rant, I'm obvs still incredibly pissed haha

    Hey, I wanted to check out your protein powder, but noticed it's plant based. Isn't it true that plant based is not as good as animal based? If you can kindly explain the difference and how it affects us when it comes to complete proteins and what our bodies need, etc. Cheers!

    • @juliii_g
      @juliii_g 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Animal protein is the closest to our body, it has more of the 9 essential amino acids we need to build muscle. We cannot make the essential ones ourselves but we need all 9 equally. Plants are always low in one or more of them but by combining different types of plants (e.g. legumes and grains) we balance it out. So in the end it doesn't make that much of a difference. 😊

    • @AbbeysKitchen
      @AbbeysKitchen  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Plant-based protein is often less bioavailable and may not have all essential amino acids or an amino acid profile that is optimized for muscle growth. We formulated our neue theory protein powder with 22g of complete protein, 2.5g of leucine to support muscle protein synthesis, and proteolytic enzymes to help with bioavailability. It's plant-based, but designed to perform like whey (the gold standard)

    I try to up my protein but also trying to lose 15 pounds, every time I hit my protein goal I go over my calorie needs for the day…. That’s even after factoring in weight loss. What’s more important for weight loss, hitting protein or calories??

    • @JosieThenFarmer
      @JosieThenFarmer 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Could you maybe go for an extra walk or activity? That way you can increase your calorie intake.
      The protein will help you keep/build muscle while losing weight.
      If you have more muscle mass you can/need more calories in a day. After you have hit your weightloss goal, you will be happy with all the muscle because that means you can eat a bit more:) also the muscle will ‘fill’ the skin a bit and you will have less saggy skin. And that is all the vanity of it. Muscle’s are so good for a happy and healthy life!
      I don’t know your personal case, but try to talk to your professional. I got recommended to eat a bit more so I had more energy to be active, workout and walk. She said that was more important than the few honderd calorie deficit.

      To determine if you're getting the most protein for your (calorie) buck, add a 0 to the number of grams of protein in your food item. That should equal or be greater than the number of calories.

      @@JosieThenFarmer that’s the problem is I already go on a 30 min walk in the morning and then most days I weight train or do some sort of gym exercise for 30-45 min. So I already feel like I spend a good amount of time and energy on working out and I don’t really have the time or really want to add any more than that. So I’ve been eating a little less which is completely fine like I am at a place where I’m consistent with that workout routine and so I can only cut back calories which leads to cutting back protein? Idk. All I know is I feel like I eat soooo much protein and I am lucky if I hit 100 grams a day it’s usually 70-90. Idk I’m kind of at the point where I’m gonna stop focusing on weight because I can tell I’m getting toned and my clothes fit better I LOOK a lot leaner than I did a year ago (I also cut drinking which helped so much) but I’ve only lost like 11 pounds in a year lmao I’m starting to not trust the scale because I’m 5 foot 4 and went from 176-165, I would say I look fit/strong (not as lean as I would like but whatever) but I have friends who are my height and weigh less than me but look overweight… 🤷🏼‍♀️ so weird lol

      @@shaylaortega7647 it depends on how you feel. But a good rule is 1.4 to 1.8 grams per kg of body weight. I don’t know your gender but week before and the week of your menstruation around 2g of protein per kg.
      It sounds like you are eating not many grams of protein. Protein will keep you full for longer, and helps with the muscle.
