I think her content is less about eating multitudes of unhealthy food for the sake of views generated through extremes and more like food tourism. She's promoting restaurants and rating their foods, encouraging travel and tourism in multiple towns, cities and country in a way that is almost a universal language of food ratings and expressions. Her long form content has her touring cruise ships and countries via sponsorship from these businesses and countries tourism boards. Thats my interpretation at least, a social media friendly level of what was a food critique/journalist in written media. Perhaps this is the evolution of what you used to do Abbey.

I 100% agree with this! She’s not bingeing at all, but trying different and unique things from all over the world. This is so different from mukbang style content… that is what is actually someone eating “massive amounts of unhealthy food,” as Abbey puts it. Karissa just tries a bunch a stuff, she’s not stuffing her face. Abbey really twisted this one to be something it’s not imo.

I love Karissa, the way she talks about food is always descriptive and joyful and never seems too copius to me? Like I doubt she films every day and what she has always looks like what I might go for on a vacation or a special day out. She eats with family and friends too so while she may rate 4 sandwiches at one meal she's likely only eating like one at that meal.

    • @Lilyanna298

She seems like a nice person but she does create a false impression that you can binge burgers or donuts all day and stay thin and healthy. She at least should be more upfront that she doesn’t only takes a bite out of the food she eats

    • @AlgyPond
      @AlgyPond 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +31

@Lilyanna298 yeah maybe... I guess to me it just seems logical that a food reviewer who makes eating their career wouldn't be able to eat the entirety of everything they sample? Nor would they wanna do that every day. Buy I can understand that maybe not everyone would think about it that way. I also never get recommended her mukbangs so I didn't even realize she did those.

💯💯💯💯💯. There are layers to this great comment. The pass she is given because she is pretty, charismatic to some, and talks about the food in a way people like still does not take away from the fact that she and many others promotes over indulgence, glorifying gluttony in a "cute" "acceptable" way. I'm not singling her out at all!! There are now many toxic tik tok of very pretty girls eating copious amounts of food and not talking just staring at camera while shoving food in mouth. Normalizing binge eating in a any way is not healthy mindset especially for the many young viewers and many struggling with eating issues.

First of all; Not all the food Karissa eats is unhealthy and as Abbey always says "No food is unhealthy, but the dose makes the poison". Karissa reviews food around the world and that's interesting and it really doesn't matter to me if she was skinny or obese, black or white, male or female. By the way, Karissa doesn't have a skinny figure but a normal healthy body with enough bodyfat and muscle mass.

Exactly, she’s more a food connoisseur. And cultural food explorer. Mukbang is just stuffing yourself for the sake of it, often the same foods like ramen or burger, sitting in one place, often at home. She is just curious towards trying and experiencing new foods of all kind of places. And it’s about the taste and excitement about trying nee stuff for her, not the quantity. I enjoy her videos bc she seems so genuinely excited and appreciative of the food discoveries she does and she honestly enjoys them!

I think Karissa is a great counter argument to those health nuts that insist that the only way to be healthy is to never let “junk” food pass your lips and you have to follow some insane, highly restrictive diet. Like I think some of those people are extremely miserable for forcing themselves to do these crazy diets and workouts and can’t stand seeing people be happy enjoy an “unhealthy” meal everyone once in a while. Just because other people can eat something fun and not fall off the wagon, doesn’t mean health nuts have to rain on their parade.

Whenever someone wanted to know what diet I was following, I’d tell them my diet was illness and that the hospital visits weren’t worth the price of looking “pretty”. Things like that usually shut their mouths. Being sick reframed my views on thinness and healthiness. For me, those two things aren’t the same.

If it's a Sunday and I'm being lazy, I know I have to eat *something* but even if I did a grocery shop the day before, I could stand in front of the fridge and not really want to eat anything. One video that I found disturbing is this week Crumbl pies combo, I mean, this works perfect for the special dinner of tomorrow, great six different desserts, that people will get a piece, but for these influencers get the whole line of pies, and eat them all at once, that's just way too much, very surreal.

When I was younger I'm talking 8-9 years ago when I was 14/15 I used to be a couple kilos bigger because I was eating so much heavily processed foods. Like pre-packaged mini cakes, crisps and all. I was unhealthy but still really thin. I'm still really thin but at least I try to eat varied foods and lower the amounts of junk I eat. This is because I have a person in my family (the grandma I never met) who passed before I was born due to complication to her untreated type II diabetes. And I used to think my blood work was awful because of the amount of garbage I was consuming. My blood work isn't any good because I lack certain nutrients but it's most likely due to my stomach issues I've had since birth. So health is a spectrum from being thin to slightly bigger. I say that because it's obvious being overly thin and obese isn't healthy. But we have to dig deeper to truly know one's health.

She eats a lot of rich foods and makes money from it because the food looks delicious, she is pretty, and pleasant and travels the world. but some of it has got to be genetics. I don't know if KarissaEats' content is the best frame of reference for this topic since she doesn't garner her audience off of binge eating but rather off of food tourism, and has evolved to what it is for mukbang's. I think her physicality is also based on the fact that she's a performer and used to work as a singer on cruise ships (something that she's openly spoken about in her content, and what used to be the main focus of her account) so she's used to training for a "healthy" body; I also don't think people recognise how the level of training that requires is akin to an athlete so you do need food to sustain you through intense hours & energy levels.
I don't think it's her job to lay disclaimers to every response she gets about how she carries her body and decision-making around food, especially as someone who is presumably used to having her body up for question as a performer. While your approach may be to critique her content, I also think it's fair to assess what it is that brings a person's content to what it is. To reduce this to extreme diet content takes away the work she does to recognise various cultures and countries through food with her content; that's my main reason for watching her, anyway. While I do understand your point of view when looking at her content, you've rid it of any insight by avoiding the nuances at play which feels slightly ironic.

Usually, when I know I am going to eat alot/have a very heavy meal-- I fast in the morning and part of the afternoon. Might have a snack or like, a small half sandwich to tie me over and LOADS of water leading up to it. I also don't get hungry as I used to... beyond intervals of like 6-7 hours which... is more good than bad for me tbh. Some days it can be different tho, but its kept my numbers in check. Most days I eat two decently sized meals a day tops, rarely three ...unless I'm super physical all day or my meal were very small. Wonder if they do something like that...

However I think she should clarify when she is sharing it with another person for transparency. I saw one video that was an eating competition with her friends at olive garden though and I’m sure she meant no harm with it, but content like that is where I draw the line.

I think perception is always key, people just need to get through the idea of not comparing yourself to others , especially influencers. I’ve known plenty of people who can eat pretty much whatever they want and look thinner (compared to me, mixed bag of genetics and history of ED) and the reality is even our friends we don’t know everything private they do and people on camera even more so. There are just too many factors. Portions, total amount of calories a day and exercise , how many days they are consistently eating that way. Even medications or drug use we don’t know (no implications of either to anyone , but I was using certain substances and not eating for days , then when I ate it was a lot). We also don’t know the back end , quite literally of digestive issues or other health issues anyone could have. I don’t trust anyone at this point influencer wise to be 💯 honest and I’m sorry if that’s bitter

She does not have a regular 9-5 sit down job so she’s able to consume more than the average person. I think people need to focus on the fact that her lifestyle is different than most people.

English often fails to have enough words to capture the nuances of meaning. IMO, people think "healthy" means "not currently incapacitated or suffering diminished ability to do tasks required for existence", which leaves a lot of room for interpretation. I believe "healthy" isn't a static condition - it doesn't just apply to how you feel in the moment. "Healthy" is behavior conducive to a well balanced life, unimpeded by ailment. My criteria means that, to be healthy, your condition must be sustainable (another iffy word, as some think it just means you can keep doing it, while I think it means it sustains you/ keeps you alive) and must give you the highest probability for good quality of life for the longest period of time. Simply being able to function today, to not need a doctor or medicine today, does not equal healthy.
