Ethan might be my favorite food influencer at the moment. I love his deep dives into different varieties of food (canned tomatoes, chicken) because I'm nerdy like that. Most importantly his channel is about enjoying food, learning to cook on the fly, with nutrition as an added bonus instead of a fixation. His channel is just inspiring.
Biggest helpful cooking at home hack I dont hear about enough is doing your slow cooker meals AT NIGHT. Slow cooker meals are usually 8 hours and for anyone with a 9-5 and a commute its impossible to get them done while at work but starting one before bed and then shoving it in the fridge in the morning to reheat (because slow cooker meals usually reheat well) is so much more sustainable for me. Favs are chili, lentil soup and pulled bbq chicken!
My husband is paranoid and thinks it’ll catch fire. Seriously. Guess he had one that caught fire before we even knew each other so he doesn’t like it on if there isn’t anyone at home or if we are sleeping. That means I have to use it Saturday or Sunday 😂 I love this tip too because it makes complete sense.
I wish I could! There is just something about the taste of crockpot meals I don't like but goodness I wish I could! With kids and a husband and working full time this would be so helpful! 😢😢
My hack is when I'm craving chips, I mix them with nuts and popcorn. Popcorn is for the volume but lower in calories than chips, nuts are to be more satiating. And honestly, for me it's a more fun bowl than just plain chips. I like all of them, and it keeps me from eating a whole bag of chips, which I know would make me feel less good. I actually used to do this with doritos and popcorn mixed as a child purely because I liked it more than just a bag of doritos or just a bag of popcorn. Nuts are a new addition.
My main "hack," if you will, was to greatly reduce the amount of carbs I consume. A year ago, I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. I went down so many rabbit holes. I can't go "keto" because of some tummy issues, but going low carb has worked wonders. I've lost 40 pounds, got my A1C back down to the high normal range, and feel so much better.
Meal prep protein building blocks is key! We freeze a lot in freezer bags pushed out flat (our freezer is tiny!): grilled sliced chicken breast, ground taco meat, pulled pork. Also Greek yogurt, canned tuna, boiled eggs. Boiled eggs have been my go to convenience snack this winter with everything bagel seasoning.
I've been forced to watch a "food seminar" by one of my dad's friends which is hyper fixated on "clean eating". The person in the video labeled dairy foods, sugar and gluten as the main (if not only) cause of so many diseases and inflammations without any sort of scientific reference and using tons of generalisations and disinformation. I'm so glad that people like you give insights of the truth behind our needs and the importance of variety and personalisations of food choices we can stick with. Keep up the good work Abbey, I loved the video 🩷
Ive realized that a good 75% of my meals are served over rice, pasta, or mashed potatoes and work just as well (if not better) over a bag of chopped salad. It keeps me satiated for longer, and reduces cook time and clean up overall. Win/win/win!
Could you do a part 3 of healthy weight loss tips and cover more on gut microbiomes and how it functions to metabolise carbs and proteins along with more information on the different microbes and their preferences? I've been enjoying your videos on these subjects repeatedly lately and have found them so interesting and helpful. Geeking out on them as it were. Thanks! PS i hope your are seeing some progress in improving your hair situation. Take care.
I love putting kefir in my salad dressings. It means I get extra virgin olive oil but not tons and it makes it creamy and adds protein. Plus EVO and kefir are great for gut health. Add a bit of mustard and some seasoning and a squeeze of lemon yum
Investing in good quality spices, especially blends, was a game changer for me. I love to cook, but I'm seasoning challenges. I'm not sure what works together. This helps.
10:36 dont hate on chuck steak. Its still lean and just needs to be cooked between rare and medium rare to be good. Also white fish and shrimp have a great macros to calories ratio
The three authors of the book are Dr. Mike Israetel with a PhD in Sports Physiology (Renaissance Periodization on TH-cam), Dr. Jen Case who is a registered dietician with a PhD in nutrition, and Dr. Trevor Pfaendtner who is an primary care physician.
@2:31: Diet may be an individualized endeavor, however FOR EVERYONE, seed oils are prone to oxidation due to their high content of unsaturated fatty acids, particularly polyunsaturated fats like linoleic and linolenic acids. Oxidation produces harmful byproducts such as reactive oxygen species and aldehydes, which can degrade oil quality and pose health risks
Hi. Great channel Abbey! It feels good to get inspiration. Just started with my first Wegovy injection (0,25) last Friday but I have since then gone totally to healthy eating. Never been fond of carbs like pasta and sweets but and loved sallads and nice proteins and such but ate TOO much of it all. Always felt hungry and kept snacking on potato crisps and such. Not much better. :-( But have felt ZERO hunger since the injection or side effect. Drinking 2 L of water or more. Lost 2 kg (2.2 pounds) already but thats water weight I'm sure. And I've got another 66 pounds or so to get rid of! But as the food noises are totally gone, along with the hunger, I can plan ahead for what to eat. I LOVE it so far! Also cut out all wine too and I used to drink 2-4 glasses every evening. 😲 Hope the journey will go well for all of us that on this road. Best wishes from the north of Sweden! xoxox
I always have some chocolate chips and blueberries in my fridge. Everytime I feel snack-ish, i will just add them to my plain yoghurt. Bonus if you drizzle honey or maple syrup! I am more into macro-nutrients than I am into calorie counting!
I love your videos Abbey. But could you reduce the zoom in and out. Sometimes I have difficulty watching the videos because it triggers a migraine. Thank you Abbey for those great videos!
I love Ethan's channel and his attitude. I do wish more of his recipes had less meat overall and beef in particular but I understand that his priorities are different than mine. I'll watch him cook and eat those things.
I don't know what your restrictions are, but turkey and chicken are great substitutes for beef in so many dishes, especially when replacing beef. Otherwise, there are a lot of decent fake beef items in the store, like beyond beef or various brands of soy crumbles.
Very curious about that stat of 50% of obese people staying metabolically healthy as we age? Does that mean 50% have zero metabolic issues through the end of life? What exactly does it mean to be metabolically heathly or unhealthy? Is it the development of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease? Also, does that stat include those with a BMI over 40? I guess what I'm getting at is, are metabolic issues distributed evenly through obese and morbidly obese individuals at all weights or does the prevalence of illness increase with higher weight. It just occurs to me that my 190 lb 5'5" body, which is obese, is vastly different from a 290 lb body or a 390 lb body or a 490 lb body. Lumping them together and giving statistics that represent them all is doing a real disservice to us, especially those in larger bodies.
My husband likes doing the 5 days of meal prep and freezing last 3 days and pulling them out the night before he needs them. I do well with 'I'm going to make extra for tomorrow' and making it in a different way.
Abbey, love your content and delivery. Thank you! Though not a fan of the product sponsorship. Realize it's needed. Struggle more with the pricing of these products. A thing I've appreciated is your money postionality awareness, aka making things accesible and affordable in a real-world way. Probiotics that cost $60 to $100 (even with your discount) - I wouldn't consider these products and many others you've sponsored doable for folks that are mamagimg a tight budget. Other than that, so love your info.
You might want to update your graphic. A gram of protein is 4 calories, irrespective of source. If you mean that 1 gram of chicken breast is 4 calories and 1 gram of steak is 7.5 calories, you should clear that up. I think I understand what you mean but you should clarify.
Two well known quacks were shown on video first off, the third one I thought was Flav City, but no. It was somebody trying to copy him: no doubt, there are lots of people who have noted how easy it is to become a millionaire from spreading misinformation. Paul Saladino and Ken Berry are also worth two million dollars.
I would go crazy if I couldn't cook from scratch, and I had done so even when living in hotels. If the restaurant food doesn't have too much white flour, it has too much sugar. If it doesn't have too much sugar it has too much lunchmeat or sausage. There are millions of people in North America who don't know how to cook, aren't very good at it, or are addicted to the taste of take out meals or desserts. I do dress up my steamed veggies, rice and quinoa with cheese as yes, those can be bland without oils or seasonings. We're taught to "limit saturated fat intake to no more than 10% of your daily caloric intake to realize good health", but just which saturated fat you eat, matters. There should be more videos on here explaining why saturated fats in dairy, especially yogurt and cheese, are different.
I have found that Greek yogurt and mashed avocado are both awesome carriers for whey isolate to help me increase protein. Helps a ton when I am trying to boost protein for a meal where it is trickier.
What an ignorant comment. We all come into this world with challenges. I have a heavy history of alopecia, and have had ibs my whole life (likely secondary to adhd which I was born with). Thankfully my digestion is great thanks to all of thr nutrition and lifestyle strategies I’ve put in place that works for me. But also if you don’t wanna take advice from me, why are you here? 😅
I will gladly take advice from someone who has a very professional background in the subject. She's not just a youtuber, but a registered dietitian. That's not something you can be without education and medical experience.
@@AbbeysKitchen you are constantly disparaging a Ketogenic or Carnivore diet. Many Many people, including myself, have had great success on a low carb meat based diet! I healed my gut, reversed Hashimotos, normalized my A1C by eating this way. Oh and lost 60lbs. I realize you make money pushing a SAD diet but I've seen the light 😉

PLEASE do the video on collective hacks for eating healthier and better without losing motivation through lack of flavor or convenience 💚
Would love to know more about what you pack in your kids' lunches and in your snack pack! Great video as always Abbey!
NOTED! and thank you 💝

Yay, excited for t his video, you and Ethan (+ Brian Langestrom) have been my fav TH-camrs for awhile!
His Cook Well channel is what helped me start cooking at home again!
I love his content. It's very flexible and caters to almost every need.
And a deep dive into resistant starch/ retrogradation and how to naturally increase and stimulate production of GLP1? Please, thank you 😊

Weight does not equal metabolic health but is highly correlated. Being 80lbs is probably not good for your health nor is being 300lbs
I wouldn't take advice from someone who has digestive issues and hair loss
What a strange comment. I don't know why you would think someone's medical history would have any bearing on their knowledge of their field.
