So with demi permanent colors you NEED to work quickly . The reason it is much darker than expected is becaude demi permanent colors don't stop processing they actually get darker and darker the longer you leave it on where as permanent colors stop processing once a certain level is reached . Just work faster next time or use a permanent color . Hope that helped 🙏 still looks beautiful though
I agree, it's often darker than you expect in many brands. Especially if you use an ash tone. 6A in chi looks as dark as 5N almost. My hair is mostly a 5, so I dye just the roots a shade darker. It fades with the sun as it grows out and looks natural. Natural hair is darker at the roots, so try 2 shades next to one another to get that effect. Darker at the roots, lighter everywhere else, then use a wide tooth comb to blend together so there isn't a band.
A hairdresser dyed my hair too dark and reddish before. I was so upset. Fixed it with color remover, bleach everywhere but the roots, then an ash brown (to balance the red undertones.) Worked great thankfully.
ive had all the same hair issues girl. my hair is also a lighter brown naturally and ive gone darker then tried to get it back at salons with no luck. i always end up with red that i cover up again anyways. im lucky that ive grown my hair out healthily from a pixie so there isnt as much buildup or damage as there used to be. i actually think this dark complements you so so well! your eyes POP and it looks way healthier!! go rock it!!
Just had the same experience with 5N. You articulated everything I felt perfectly… including having black hair in the past and not. wanting. it. again.
This happened to me too about 3 months ago and there’s several accounts of people that it happened to as well. I just kept the black and love it now. It does look good on you
I’m not sure if this made the huge difference in your hair. But in the website , when I went on the ion Demi permanent dye in the Sally store in the how to use description it says “Select desired shade. Mix 2 oz. of ion Intensive Shine Demi Hair Color with 4 oz. ion Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer 10 Volume in a non-metallic bowl. Mixing ratio is 1:2 unless otherwise noted.” And you says 1:1 ratio in your video. I think that’s why your hair is dark. You didn’t have enough developer in the mixture. But idk I’m not a hair stylist. And I never used a Demi. I am here because I want to use a Demi dye in my next time of hair dying, I have 5A in my hair now from Perfect 10 clairol and my hair is like 2 shades lighter than yours. So I am thinking maybe your mixture wasn’t right !? But I’m not sure. I read the ion directions off of the sally website on Intensive Shine Demi Permanent Creme Hair Color
Since she only used a 10 developer it only deposit the color. Definitely should have used a 20 or 30 for a lift since her hair was already dark red purple.
@@Mermaidlife97 I disagree only because I just literally used the exact products she did in video, only I used 20developer and mine turned out dark brown. I'm glad I used 20 vol dev . Wondering if mine would have turned black like hers if I had used 10. My hair was a dish watery blonde not sure what color hers was prior as video does not show.
This is an Ion brand issue. I just used their 7N to try and tone my highlights back to bronde and left it on for 10 mins (maybe 15 on the parts where I had already applied) on damp hair and came out a level 4 dark dark brown with coppery undertones. Nothing like a "medium blond". I had this happen with Ion years ago too (think I used 5A and came out black) and thought it was just that batch. Hoping this doesn't fade as red and warm as it's looking rn
It’s a naming issue I think. There’s this dark red gold brown color that’s named Light gold mahogany blonde. Yes Blonde, and it’s number is 8wr which suggests it’s blonde blonde and it’s really not.
@@andiewfs_XIIIyeah it’s honestly still a company issue in a way, but I think they do it so they can’t be sued. Like they put it in terms only hair dressers would understand, and they barely do sometimes I swear.
girl i bought an ion 6N permanent color and the same thing happened to me. the color was described as “dark blonde” but it literally ended up the same color u did. im so sad😭
I’m a dirty blonde hair naturally,, but I use a level 1 for my hair. because I like my hair black as I can get it! I think the black looks great with your blue eyes! you have my dream coloring, meaning, I love blue eyes and black hair together.
I’ve used 3 different ion color brilliance colors including the 5n, every single one turned hair jet black! I’m convinced it’s the dye, it’s absolutely awful. Don’t think you did anything wrong at all. I’ve read this happening to so many others, no matter what color they used.
I've read all the tips in the reviews at Sally's ion section. Always read the reviews to learn other people's experience. Consumers say that the dye results are, consistently, 3 or 4 tabs darker than the target color. I'm scared of the unpredictability of ion dyes, so I add the translucent/clear dye to the opaque regular ion dyes. I'm dyeing a light-medium brown balayaged wig into a dark brown with lots of golden reddish highlights. It's an expensive wig and I don't want to ruin it by making it too dark. I took the reviews to heart, and chose the lightest blonde ion dye (9A)to darken the harsh blonde Balayage streaks (10A) and it worked. The 9A acted like a 6A, which softened the harsh blond streaks into a 7A bronde. The rest of the hair was a 6A-7A brown and I wanted to turn it into a 4A, so I used 7A ion dye, (over the 6A hair) and the hair ended up like a 5A. It's like applying layers of a watercolor wash, so I'm going slowly.
I just did a Ion Demi 7n on my light brown hair in hopes of freshing it up a bit. I used a 10 developer and left it on 20 mins. It's came out jet black... even more black than yours. Wtf? What happened?
Here because the same thing happened to me.. ion is the worst dye I’ve ever used. I used 6N dark BLONDE with 10 vol and my hair is a dark brown. Darker than when I’ve dyed my hair with actual dark brown dyes. It’s insane.. this line should be cancelled immediately.
I know this video is a year old so I’m wondering if you got a piece of paper inside of your dye. I used the demi the other day. It had a grid showing different ratios and timing for the results you want. Like using a 2:1 ration and leaving it in for only 15 minutes will just tone. Maybe that might help you in the future. Ion also has a demi permanent clear. You could use that the lessen the color intensity.
I just used in demi dark blonde, kept it on for 20 minutes and it came out too dark. I don't hate it, but 10 minutes would have been a better choice or even a medium blonde ? You live and learn
Thanks for sharing. I used Ion permanent dye 4n and my hair turned out inky jet black! I had to pay over $400 to have the color corrected. Ive dyed my hair at home for 20 yrs with other brands and this has never happened to me before. Will never use this Ion products again.
Just did mine today using Ion color brilliance 5n. The only difference is I used 20 developer and it turned out dark brown with a hint of Mahogany which is beautiful. I left it on 30-35min then washed with a Paul Mitchell color care shampoo. It was a dish water blonde prior like a 6-7A Ashy . Your video doesn't show what color your hair was before. But I'm thinking the developer is the difference
Ok same just happened to me with a color that was 5c. So cool equals an ash tone which means dark! I'm finally going to remove it this weekend with CPR and undo goo. Then in going with a light brown.
I left mine in 10 minutes longer than she did and got dark brown Using Ion demi 5n. But I also used 20 developer. I wonder if that is the difference. I know it says to use 10 dev but I used 20 got the desired result
I used 6n dark natural blonde from ion and my hair turned black! I had to use clarifying shampoo several times to get it brown black. I am very fair skinned and wanted a light brown!! :( I don't know what to do
It's not you. It's not your hair. It's the products Sally's have in inventory! I had been circling Wella Color Charm demi-permanent and Ion demi permanent hair color since they stopped carrying Clairol Professional demi permanent...I finally broke down and tried Wella...Big Mistake! Both Wella and Ion demi permanent are just bad, bad, bad! No kind of "blonde" demi permanent should turn anybody's hair from light brown to black-brown--like level 3, in less than 20-minutes of open air! Never ever again!
I'm sure it'll fade a little, it kind of looks like a dark Ombre, could be worse right?! MB get the ends trimmed an inch or so to lighten up the bulk a bit, but I think it looks good.

Does it wash out over time to the light color?
That doesn’t make any sense to me bc wouldn’t it just depend on the type of developer you use? Isn’t that why there’s 10, 20, 30, etc?
So why does it say 20 mins if it turns black with heat?
You’re right! i’m a colorist in my hair salon. The funny thing is I’m a blonde specialist, but yet I don’t like mine blonde, lol!
