Great postings! Thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge. I have been practicing your teachings at home for a while now because I don't have access to a club in my country.

Leg strikes only works if you're defensive, parry and leg shots. And fake cut feint into thrust.

What about a Cut #4 to the knee? Let's say out of an outside guard - feint #1 to the head - cut #4 to the knee - slip / recover under a hanging guard? Do you think it is possible or ineffective? Thanks for sharing the british military stuff!

I show and talk about this at the 11:55 mark. feint 1 is a common way to setup a leg cut, and the cut 4 is used to give more protection to the hand when cutting the leg, and recovering to hanging guard is always a good option.

Anyone know of any Hema groups in Cumbria?

If you're left handed, like myself would the attack be easier from the inside or the outside? obviously it depends on the other person, but most people in our group are right handed. I'm trying to develop the right hand but it's like trying to teach a 2 yr old jacked on sugar penmanship.

It's the reverse of what is taught here to a right hander, for a left, attacking inside gives you protection, outside power and exposed hand.

Any tips for dealing with opponents that charge forwards and cut deep at the legs? i find they lunge forward too far and fast for me to slip and counter, all i can do is sink my sword down to block theirs and they end up so close it becomes a grapple, maybe i could get a cut or thrust to their face but think ii will cop the after blow to the leg as their deep attack will still find the slipped leg.

Firstly, work timed thrusts against them. Going to guard of St George and cutting can be too slow against those who are very fast, but a timed thrust is wickedly fast, and will very quickly discourage them as they'll be walking straight into your point, just be sure to aim quite low as they'll often sink quite low as they reach for the leg.
However, sometimes you do have to parry leg shots, and in that case, yes go to a parry in half hanging. Now if they are getting to grappling after that parry, it's probably because they are taking multiple steps rather than a particularly deep lunge. The best way to stop this going to grappling is to traverse as you make your defence, or immediately after it. They are coming at you with speed on a straight line to close, a traverse can break their momentum and create openings on them.
Also, if you parry outside half hanging and they close, you can pivot about their blade and drive your point up into them whilst using your left hand to control.

@@AcademyofHistoricalFencing thanks, that is helpful, i do find my opponent does just make 3 fast steps rather than a lunge, i like the idea of more or less letting them run into my well timed thrust.

Academy of Historical Fencing hello. I keep enjoying your videos! This may seem a bit off topic, but usually you seem very quick quick to respond to comments, so I’ll give it a go!
Do you know where someone could purchase military saber scabbards? I recently obtained an antique, but unfortunately did not come with a scabbard! I have found a few sites that make custom pre-early modern scabbards, but not really any for the the modern/early modern period. I know most officer blades like mine are not a regulation size, so I’m pretty sure it would need to be custom, or be lucky to find one that somewhat fits! Do you know of any place I should maybe look?

Lol for real with the annoying people, for some reason a lot of HEMA people over where I live never expect to get hit in the leg so they never train for the possibility 🤷🏽‍♂️
