  • In this special Symposium in partnership with Gordon College, panelists Shirley Hoogstra, Michael Lindsay, and Pete Wehner discuss the unique nature and value of a Christian liberal arts education in intellectual and spiritual formation, challenges to the liberal arts in general and a faith-based liberal arts approach in particular in our time, and the prospects for the vitality of Christian higher education.

Wonderful symposium... My desire is to see institutions of thoughtful prayer and dialogue, institutions that integrate faith and learning, to be built outside of the United States. Hoogstra said early on in her contribution that there are 520,000 students who study in Christian colleges worldwide. And of those 450,000 in USA. That's one country representing 4.3% of the world population, but having 86.5% of the world's Christian college students. Not only does the developing world need Chrisitan higher ed, but I would argue that the American church and American Christian colleges need this thoughtful reflection more than ever... not only as places to visit. The developing world has failed to intentionally pursue this vision, and possibly the Church in the developed world has overlooked it's promise... but I believe that a cross-pollination across all of God's people is a great hope for us all.
