I used Rats on and off for decades. I started using them when I played classic rock in the mid 80s with my first guitar, a strat. I kept using them through my metal phase as I played lead shreddy guitar in a lot of silly metal bands in Los Angeles, and then when I got out of that scene I always found a place for the Rat. I still love the Rat and use it. But I think the Rat copies have gotten so good that there's no reason to obsess over a ProCo original Rat. I had a Donner chorus a couple years back that I got for $30. I wish I still had it. That was one of the best choruses I've ever had. The best gear is not always the most expensive.
I own a vintage 80s ProCo Rat-you know…the Big One. However, I play a VERY wide variety of tones, and my pedalboard has ~20 pedals on it. For that reason, I LOVE Mooer Mini pedals. As you said: they contain EXACT copies of the original circuits, but take up a fraction of the space. I’ve replaced my Blues Driver with a Blues Mood; I replaced my Marshall Bluesbreaker with a Blues Crab, my Rat with a Black Secret, and my main flanger is a Mooer E-Lady. I also really like TC Electronics’ Mini pedals with TonePrint, as they can be reprogrammed to affect the tone like a number of different pedals. My main chorus is a TC Corona Mini set to behave like a CE-2; my compressor of choice is a TC Hypergravity that I have set to respond like a script-style Dyna Comp, when I’m doing the Gilmour thing; My personal tone borrows a lot from Mark Knopfler, however, so I can, in under 3m seconds, reprogram it to behave like an Orange Squeezer. Lastly, I use a TC Spark mini as a clean boost after my drive section. I also have the full-sized Flashback 2 and the original Hall Of Fame Reverb. Anyroad…love yr channel, man; you’re a killer player, and have a VERY good understanding of the fundamentals of tone-shaping. I wish I knew all you do when I was your age! Keep rockin, brother. Cheers!
I am so glad you enjoyed my recommendation Brandon! I was concerned it maybe too different. I properly love this song, absolutely perfect on its own. It's such a departure from the their middle period and Roger's voice, very Floyd and overtly political. I really enjoyed your reaction mate. To hear the breadth of their ouvre (probably spelt it wrong) try out their first 2albums man. Peace brother so glad you had a good time!
Another great rat clone worth mentioning is the TC Electronic Magus Pro, i have one, it sounds great, and covers a lot of ground. Great video, and playing.
I have the original proco rat. Version 1a. Fringe logo. Original box along with warranty card. It was my dads. He never really used it much. It still looks like it just rolled out of the factory.
I just discovered an aussie band that seems kinda similar to pink floyd, the guitarist said david gilmour is his biggest influence too, they are called psychedelic porn crumpets (the minute I saw that name, I knew they were gonna be good lol) "found god in a tomato" has a few pink floyd influences in there I think, especially the solo and the little jam preceding it also the themes just seem very syd barret in a way, same with the names, like the one mentioned is about a guy who finds a tomato which I guess just opens his mind and shows him the universe and stuff. they also have songs like "marmalade march" "cornfake" "gurzle" which all sounds like names you would find on a syd barret solo album, they have an album called night gnomes and a song called "mundungus" it's like if you mixed the music of 70's floyd with the ideas of syd barret floyd and also sprinkled in some metal guitar riffs sparingly in a few songs, just enough to give a led zeppelin kind of edge. it's really weird, and it seems very 70's but also modern in a very odd way. they are a modern band btw. it's kinda weird how they have a ton of mixed ideas that work kinda well together I've just been bingeing their albums and singles for the past week and need to share it
I've found the Rat/Black Secret to be a great alternative for The Wall tones. For example, on YOUNG LUST, I use it in the following way: Rat at 10 o'clock, bridge/mid pickups, guitar volume rolled off to 7 or 8... and of course a flanger (ElecLady) and a short delay. Sweet!
Hello! Your channel is the one for gilmour content. Im interested how this pedal compares to the Russian Big muff for his lead tones. Is there any need to have both or is the big muff also pretty much in the same range? I just bought one..should i get a rat clone too ore is the bm enough? clone

You know, I'm not affiliated or anything with the brand, but honestly, whatever PastFx makes, it's something good. their G2 pedal is always on my board, td-y is almost always on my studio tones and gdansk tones, the elastic is of course legendary and the one I always use for flanger tones and patriarch is always there when I need something more than green russian. the low and mids knob is the best thing on a big muff

what a classic! But I don't think I should be the one to cover it, at least for now. I'm not intend to do what other players can do better than me. But I'm going to get into Hendrix more in the future
for the love of god, will you intonate your guitar.. i can see just by looking at your saddles that its not been done and it makes your playing stand out as bad. sort your intonation out and then ill consider listening but as it stands i cant listen to any of your playing as while its good it can be a lot better and its not down to technique its down to the strings being set properly.
