    In the early 80's I did some work on a new house being built in the Cowee Valley. The backhoe digging the footings pulled out a pocket of rubies with enough gem quality material in it to pay for the cost of the house.

      If you didn’t own the mineral rights on the land I personally wouldn’t be advertising it online for the actual owner to find out to come after their “stolen property rights” on the minerals. Awesome to get lucky like that and I would’ve probably done the same but protect yourself and don’t advertise crimes/possible crimes.

    Year's ago I managed a school kitchen, a fourth grade girl came into the kitchen with this huge beautiful red rock and says, "look what i found at my grandmother's house on school break last week!" Well it was more then just a rock! I asked her if she knew what a ruby or a Garnett looked like and she said no. I told her she should ask her mom to take her to a jeweler in town that I know and ask him to look at it. It turned out to be a 3lb ruby she was carrying around in her backpack!

    My Aunt and Uncle owned a Ruby mine in Franklin, NC. I used to go visit every summer. I’d go to the mine with them and pan for rubies and sapphires. We used to have jars filled with them. In Jackson County, NC, on my grandfather’s property, we used to find garnets on top of the ground. Some would be as big as golf balls. I miss those days.

    Those people apparently have a corundum conundrum in their backyard . What a nice mystery or problem to have. I'm not a serious or knowledgeable rockhound, but I have done it for fun. Since corundum glows under that particular light, do some people dig at night while using the light ? Looks like they'd be easier to find if you did that.

The recent rains and this wet spring have blessed me with so many beautiful crystals, lil crystal clusters and lots of gorgeous bloodstones, my personal favorite. I'm in love with the mix of greens and reds they are popping! I have multiple tumblers running 24/7, I'm rockhounding every weekend now the weather has turned and it's into the high 80s. Hubby can't keep me out of the water! I'm almost ignoring the quartz crystals now in favor of the beautiful bloodstones, I'm sure you would be mad at me 🤣🤣🤣. I haven't been to Propts in years but found stuff every time I went. My best find there was a 4" long tapered one. I have seen piece's that had somewhat "gemmy" spots in them but the best one that I ever saw was found many years ago and part of an old collection that has been since handed down to a grandson of the deceased owner of the collection. This piece was found in area on the property that is not open to collecting anymore. The piece was a yellowish barrel shaped corundum about 1 1/2" in length x 3/8" in width slightly tapered crystal that was translucent in the lower half and completely transparent in the upper half. This was one of the few transparent ones that I ever saw from there. The collector who had this was very trustworthy and honest and I had no doubt of its authenticity. He had dug many Propost corundums in the early days of the site and had only found three like this. The others sold off long before and this was his only one. Another collector who I once knew was also a fixture at Propst many years ago once should me a diamond, yes diamond that he found on the property. It was supposedly way on the back of the property and again, he is deceased as well and his collection dispersed at auction some years ago. With that much corundum on the site, it isn't surprising that diamond, garnet, quartz and other minerals are there I think that most people aren't looking for anything other than corundum so it often gets overlooked and is not easily detected in the thick clay.

    • @Lightwish01
      @Lightwish01 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Brad, as you may or may not know diamonds are found in very specific conditions like kimberlite tubes. It would not make sense for a diamond to be found in this type of area, unless you know something that I don't diamonds should be far away and very deep usually.

    It should be noted you want 365 nm length not 390-395 nm length for long wave UV lights. More minerals react to that wavelength and they are brighter as well.
