Glad to see you go back to classic game reviews and retrospectives with history and all. That was originally what I followed you for. Especially your series focused ones.
I have parodius on the snes and I absolutely loved this game growing up. The soundtrack is all upbeat classical songs like flight of the bumblebee. Very under appreciated game.
I have been into cute em ups lately. I recently got Twin Bee and Parodius and picked up Parodia on the Wii VC. There is some great import shmups in the Wii VC. Great video man, thanks for making it!
Fun review! I'm glad you included the history about the games and talked about Parodious. Cute'em'ups are such a fun and awesome part of the shoot'em'up genre and parody games happen to fall within that category. Cheers!
Great to see this game get some love! I found out about it when I got the Soldier collection for the PSP. Loved it. The difficulty is just right, maybe a little easy though, being an avid SHMUP-er. There was a lot more good to say about this, so I wish this video was a bit longer. Well done though!
soldier blade and radiant silvergun are my favourite sh'm'ups of all time, i made a remix of soldier blade stage 1 theme a while back, i adore those games
Had this since 2008, when I started collecting PC -Engine games. Now I have pretty much over 200 PC-Engine games with almost all the good shmups made for the system. This is one of my favorite ones on the console, easily. Thanks to HCG...now the prices for the game will sky rocket on Ebay. lol
Hi Johnny, thanks for the video, not overly familiar with the PC engine so great video. A request (sure you get loads), would be great to see some videos of you at local stores or picking games up. I love your reviews but at the same time miss some of your old videos out on the move. (This isn't a criticism, only a request). Keep up the fantastic work, you have the best channel it here.
Johnny! The Soldier Series is totally one of the best collections of shooters on the system. The Caravan levels are fantastic as well. Glad to see you do a vid on Star Parodier definitely gets overlooked when talking cute em ups especially since Parodius was such a smash for Konami.
Awesome looking game, I had seen some screen shots but not game play before. I am slowly collecting the various Parodius titles across quite a few systems. Have the MSX one, and others across PCE, SNES, Saturn & Famicom. They are all programmed very well, the number a sprites & colours at times is amazing and usually surpasses the games they were a parody of :)
I picked up Star Parodier and Soldier Blade on the Wii VC. Really great shooters. I have Chatting Parodius for the Saturn. I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me after getting through the Twinbee level. I also have Sexy Parodius which was really cute as well.
Johnny are you going to Portland this year. Would love to meet up and thank you for all the great content you have been giving all of us through the years. Got my media badge thanks to Chuck and need to say HI and have a drink and a chat. Will be there a day early. Just post back if possible. Love ya and all your stuff, keep it up. BTW, if you do go...bring Rob Man!!
Great game, i fell in love with this game the second i saw it in PC Engine Fan way back when. i love the PC Engine character in it. one thing; it is called star pa-ro-ja; a play on star soldier (so-ru-ja). no matter how you say it i love this game, lots of fond memories.
Good stuff man, I really need to get into PC Engine/Turbo Duo collecting, Just I never see any of it in the wild here down in the southern states. cheers!!!
Great review and killer timing as well. After several weeks of waiting, I finally received a copy of PC Engine Best Collection: Soldier Collection for the PSP which has Star Parodier and the three Soldier games. I've only had time to briefly sample the games, but I really like what I see. I love the style of Star Parodier and its intro sequence as well. Looks like a great game. I hope to have some time to play past the first level soon.
I clicked on this video because you were holding a PC-engine. Just kidding, I watch all your videos. *throws Hu-cards like ninja-stars* best system ever!
This is what the PS3 needs on the PCE16/PCE-Duo library in the States here, but Konami bought Hudson out so we are most likely S.O.L on getting any more titles here.
I like cute, charming games like that. I like lighthearted games, or really, just a wide variety of games, from the heavy ones to the silly and fun kind. I miss the carefree feeling of twenty years ago. I think it felt carefree not simply because I was much younger then, but because the culture was more relaxed at that time.
Awsome review! Not sure if this is the right place for this, but how did you get your PC Engine to work on your TV, i own one and have the right AC adapter, but cannot figure out to get it hooked up to my TV.
Japanese names rock: PC Engine, Mega Drive, Family Computer,... whilst their western counterparts suck: Genesis, Super Nintendo, Turbogra[phx]? 16? Not to mention japanese cover art vs western cover art. That´s tough.
I wouldnt call this a review besause it is so one-sided and shows no bad aspects of the game(and it probably has some otherwise it would be well known). But still a nice presentation of the game and its strenghts.
That's because he's HAPPY Console Gamer. He just lets us know of these cool gem games and lets us decide the fate of the game. You may have a point though, or maybe this game is just flawless. I will have to go play now!
HappyConsoleGamer, there is a hidden bonus stage easter egg over here link: th-cam.com/video/CXR6h1XJANo/w-d-xo.htmlm18s and here is the bonus stage.:th-cam.com/video/CXR6h1XJANo/w-d-xo.htmlm34s
Looks like a fun cute em' up.
Glad to see you go back to classic game reviews and retrospectives with history and all. That was originally what I followed you for. Especially your series focused ones.
Yes! Such a hidden gem on the system.
I have parodius on the snes and I absolutely loved this game growing up. The soundtrack is all upbeat classical songs like flight of the bumblebee. Very under appreciated game.
That PC Engine is the cutest console drawing I have ever seen. :)
I have been into cute em ups lately. I recently got Twin Bee and Parodius and picked up Parodia on the Wii VC. There is some great import shmups in the Wii VC. Great video man, thanks for making it!
Of only they would port more wii VC games to the 3ds and wii u :c
Great review! This is the first great review of this amazing game. I really love and miss the 90's and Hudson Soft.
Fun review! I'm glad you included the history about the games and talked about Parodious. Cute'em'ups are such a fun and awesome part of the shoot'em'up genre and parody games happen to fall within that category. Cheers!
this was the game that got me into the pce in 2009 and now i have a pretty healthy hu-card and cd collection !!
What a wonderful morning surprise. A new happy console gamer video.
Looks like I've got a new VC game to download.
Great to see this game get some love! I found out about it when I got the Soldier collection for the PSP. Loved it. The difficulty is just right, maybe a little easy though, being an avid SHMUP-er. There was a lot more good to say about this, so I wish this video was a bit longer. Well done though!
That music just screams 1980's space opera anime. I will definitely be adding this on the virtual console eventually.
I love Parodius! It's so awesome even Kid Dracula is playable in one version of it.
soldier blade and radiant silvergun are my favourite sh'm'ups of all time, i made a remix of soldier blade stage 1 theme a while back, i adore those games

Wtf is this? Since when did you do reviews again :P Good to see reviews. Wish you did more of these.
You're getting so good at making reviews!
Great quick review on Star Parodia Johnny! Looks like such a blast to play : ) : ) The Super Grafx at the end is hilarious ^>^ (Matt)
Great review as always, i didn't realize this game had such a neat history behind it!

I've only ever played Parodius so I'll have to give this one a go! Thanks Johnny.
You got with Bomber Man LOL XD
The game is also included in the PC Engine Best Collection: Solider Collection for the PSP. The console is also of course, not region locked
I have played this game so much.I love it.

Looks really good mate, Ive never heard of it.
Love the characters very cool to play as Bomberman and PC-Engine! Wow!
Great review! I am jealous of your Super Grafx. I saw one for sale at ACEN in 2010 at a vendor and didn't buy it.
This looks incredible. Personally I've never heard of it, thus, thanks for the share lol.

Thanks for that great review! Think I'm gonna try that game out.
Best show on youtube
Cool looking game! I love these fun "not too serious" shmups :)
How convenient, I actually ordered an import of the second snes parodius game not too long ago.
I clicked on this video because you were holding a PC-engine. Just kidding, I watch all your videos. *throws Hu-cards like ninja-stars* best system ever!
Awesome review, Johnny! What an awesome, cute, hidden gem :)
This is what the PS3 needs on the PCE16/PCE-Duo library in the States here, but Konami bought Hudson out so we are most likely S.O.L on getting any more titles here.
You need to play Harmful Park, if you haven't. The most insane, beautiful shooter of its kind.
Nintendo should do more stuff like this. I guess the closest we get here is Wario Ware Micro Mini Games, and Super Luigi Bros U.
I like cute, charming games like that. I like lighthearted games, or really, just a wide variety of games, from the heavy ones to the silly and fun kind.
