Suggesting you watch the video isn't about giving views to other channels, it's because most of the songs from the Inside special really need the video portion to fully understand the songs. The songs from Inside are great but the special itself is much richer than just the audio by itself. I hope you go back and watch the actual special at some point!
You really lose about 60% of the meaning without the visuals on this song.
Agree, the visuals are a huge parts of Bo's genius. Missing a lot with just the audio.
Think of it this way: most of Bo's work, but *particularly* Inside, are a multimedia experience. Without the visuals you're essentially watching a movie with a narrative and vital imagery all chopped up and out of context and only hearing it without seeing it. I really hope you get to watch the actual special soon. It's just brilliant.

Bo is so good!
He’s admitted to being ashamed of some of his older comedy. Probably for the same reasons you didn’t break down some of his bars in words words words lol. I don’t think he’s ever be really outright offensive. He hasn’t ever said anything I would deem as racist. But he was definitely super edgy. But to his point he grew up on family guy. That show is know for its super edgy material. So learning your comedy tactics from sources like that is bound to ruffle a few feathers.
The best part about this for me is his simultaneously apologizing for his old sense of humor, but he’s also kinda mocking the TH-cam format for apology videos. Which in 2020 there were PLENTY of them. Constant scandals, fans digging back in TH-cam and twitter history to find problematic statements and calling creators out on it. The words “problematic”, “I’m growing as a person” “I tried to hide behind my childhood” “my actions are my own, I won’t explain them away”…. That whole second verse is basically verbatim what half of these apology videos sound like. So it’s such a perfect way for him to atone for his own actions while also speaking to the times and making us laugh.
Hope you got around to watching the actual performance of this cause it definitely adds to the comedic value.
The interesting thing is, I actually think Bo wouldn't make fun of being "cancelled" - as he says in this song, he's actually totally willing to accept and acknowledge the ways in which his words and actions may hurt other people, and is willing to accept consequences if they arrive (even if the idea scares him). If anything, Bo seems like the kinda guy who would respond to a "cancellation" in the correct way: by genuinely listening to people's feelings and doing what he can to undo any pain or harm he caused.

Exactly which I think is kind of the point of the second verse. He starts off saying all of the problematic things he did were when he was younger. Then in the second verse he acknowledges that being young isn't necessarily an excuse for the behavior. He owns that, regardless of age, he's the one that did it.
He’s actually BEEN addressing his past stuff. I shared a link of a compilation of him talking about it years ago.

It’s great bc he’s critical of both himself and society’s reactionary nature, which goes with the theme of the whole special.
I think part of it might be he feels like he is unfairly protected for some reason in this era of digging into peoples backstory on the internet (because he is rightly a national treasure xD). He said it himself in the song and you said it in the words words words reaction, he said some offensive stuff in that song and a lot of others in his younger youtube days (he even went so far as to delete some he thought were too cringey in his opinion) that nowadays would never even be considered to be released, yet no one has brought his old stuff for some reason. Loving these reactions man, keep it up, you deserved to blow past 100K for all the hard work

I think he is talking about burning it to show he is sorry and to make amends, but then if you burn it you admit you knew it was bad and then get blamed like you are trying to hide it based on people's reactions ... So asking what should he do with it ... You can't win. You apologize, they try to cancel you. If you don't say anything, they try to cancel you ... It's how the world works these days. “Father please forgive me” his father/dad is actually a pastor so it draws in the dbl. he ties in a lot of lines over multiple songs with biblical reference.
He's commenting about both sides of cancel culture. He understands that cancel culture is about holding people accountable and apologizes for the crap he did in the past. But at the same time makes fun of how things change so fast that something you said 3 minutes ago can now be unacceptable.
The videos, which are just snippets from the Inside special, will probably be on the Netflix channel which won't take away from Bo because it shows Netflix that his content continues to be popular. Just a thought.

@@CliffBeatsOfficial Most Reaction channels have to either blur the video or put text over it in order to get the upload to go through for Bo Burnham stuff (especially anything from the Inside or Make Happy specials). You do you though, there's always going to be people who prefer x vs y but it would be boring if every reaction channel did things identically. I'm enjoying the reactions!

After watching Bo’s content and listening to his songs without the video. It actually gives you a chance to listen to the song and the lyrics and understand it. There after watching the video will give it more context. But sometimes watching the video only will distract you from what he’s really trying to say. Honestly I think that is a message in it of itself. Nowadays we get distracted by what’s going on visually, we sometimes forget the message behind the visuals.

I love this journey you’re on, but Inside is such a freaking masterpiece and really needs to be viewed as a whole. He created it at the beginning of the COVID quarantine/lockdown. His goal was to create a comedy special without leaving his room. He did all the lighting, filming, editing, and of course the writing/directing. It’s a one artist show that grows increasing introspective and stir crazy by turns. I think you may be missing out and doing the art a disservice by doing the music tracks. His other comedy specials are fine to break up, but not Inside.

Actually I would just recommend reacting to the whole specials and you could upload them as individual songs. It’s better to get the full experience with context for the songs. You could start with his latest one “Inside” and then go backwards till “what.”

I wouldn't recommend going backwards. Starting from words words words, or even before that (there was like a comedy central special I believe floating around?) and going forward really tells the story of Bo Burnham. The specials *do* flow together in some subtle ways
Oh my god this song wasn't a complaint about cancel culture. It was making fun of people who whine about cancel culture, from shitty nonpologies to celebrities going "I was young, you can't blame me"
Bo doesn't hide his content, you can find videos of his content that include liberal use of the f-slur, the n word in at least one, but people haven't bothered trying to "cancel" him because you have to intentionally misinterpret his shit to consider it racist or sexist. But at the same time he won't use those terms anymore because he's acknowledged that those terms offend people for no good reason.
I guarantee Bo has absolutely no concerns about getting "cancelled"

It's not necessarily that you CANT cancel him, you just SHOULDN'T.
He said some offensive shit in his early material, but it really was somewhat fine at the time (considering it's like 15 years ago now, and that he was really young at the time).
As he describes it, all of it was perfectly lawful just not very thoughtful. But all of it was FUNNY and was clearly with the intention of making people laugh, so I don't think he ever had any "scandal" where people got offended by him.
I hope he can understand it and forgive himself cause it's clearly weighing on him (not necessarily with this song, but with many others).
The Grammys selection committee is trying to stop him as they did not include this record in the comedy album of the Year category

I don't think Bo would make fun of it. I think he just might let us sneak a glimpse at the hair shirt* he is already wearing for it. Like his comic hero Tim Minchin he has a really strong conscience and beats himself up for mistakes he makes. Generally the mark of a good human. Sincere remorse.

Dunno whether you're still seeking this answer, but Aladdin is an Arabic character, so a white person wearing the costume of an Arabic character could be seen as problematic. He's making fun of it, because:
1. He was a kid.
2. Aladdin is a part of popular culture.
3. Nobody would've known about it if he didn't tell us.
He's also being genuine in that he's reflecting on some of the stuff he's dime in the past not having been in entirely good taste, but the specific example he used is jokingly a very silly thing to call problematic.
You can only cancel someone who cares
Bo explicitly showed that he cares in this song. If you watch any recent interviews it's clear that he cares about the impact that his words can have, and that as a person with a huge following he acknowledges the responsibility to be more aware.
