I built a big ass model of the storch when i was a kid. An uncle got it in a boot sale and gave it to me. Its in my mums attic still. Ah the memories! The 80's were cool! I saw an actual storch fly at the baldonnel airshow back in the 90's as well. Baldonnel is a military airfield in ireland btw. Man that storch just crawled up the runway and just......lifted off the ground! Then the pilot flew by at minimum throttle and max flaps. I could have run alongside! Still love stol to this day. Never became a pilot though. Follow your dreams kids. This aint no practice run.
I wish I could have been there to see this! I had a recent surgery that kept me from going, but I'm glad I can view and enjoy the things I missed here online! So thank you guys!
I hate that she lost power, but it looks like the landing was kinda soft so hopefully not much damage. Awesome build guys! Storch is a nice flying plane.
richb313 It was actually a problem with the bearings in the motor seizing up. Currently I’m planning on trying some penetrating oil to see if that frees things up.
Correct pronunciation. Just for the record, the Storch was a German spotter and reconnaissance aircraft. The translation Means 'Stork', indeed in German it is also pronounced 'Stork'. After the war a dear friend of mine Was a pilot in what later was known as the Army Air Corps, and commandeered a Stork as his personal 'hack', while hunting German officers for the Nuremburg trials. A very remarkable aeroplane by all accounts.
When I was growing up, I use to cut school after 1st period... I was bad... But if it means anything, I'm a whole lot worse now, so all things considering, I was a good kid.... I would go to the mall, and they had a hobby shop I liked, I was big on models. They always played a video of a FLYING RC LAWN MOWER. It was full scale, it looked real, and there were no propellers visible. I would love to see someone build that again. It was so non aerodynamic, it didn't even look possible. Yet it was. There's a flight test.
The only thing that broke was one of the landing gear dowels and one of the 3d printed parts which I was able to fix already. Thankfully there wasn’t any damage to the rest of the plane
Hey flite test! I was just wondering if you guys have an approximate time when the plans will be done for the edge. Thank you so much guys!! Super excited!
They kept saying the prop feathered when they should have said windmilling. A fixed pitch prop cannot feather the blades. Only a constant speed / variable pitch prop can do that.
'Feathering' is when a full-size plane twists the prop blades to cause minimum drag after an engine failure. Obviously most model props are solid and have no twisting (variable pitch) mechanism.
DmcHartsoe In full size, more complex aircraft are able to change the pitch/angle of their props. We call these variable pitch. Simpler aircraft can't, we call these fixed pitch. To "feather" a prop is to angle it in such a way that drag is minimum and the prop turning will do very little in terms of thrust. What they mean to say is "windmilling" when power is no longer applied to the prop, it will still turn as it is moving through the air. This turning of the prop with the air is called Windmilling.
DmcHartsoe Even if you have no interest in getting your PPL. Give the first PPL book by Jeremy M Pratt a read. It explains in basic terms theory of flight and how it can be applied to piloting.
I so wish I could've attended FliteFest... Too bad, I live in a whole different place on the planet... New Zealand doesn't really get events like these.
Will we be seeing any Stan content in the next few videos? You guys shot footage with the original version last year and the new version this year, and of course we were able to get one side-by-side combat flight with both planes...
Dear flite test team, i have been following your channel from couple of months and enjoyed watching every single video. Do you have any plans to design and fly a plane with uninterrupted power supply? May be from solar.
Also to continue my venting I've been trying to contact anyone associated with Test Fight now for several weeks with no avail .Great videos and your work that you have accomplished is aersome. You should be very proud of ALL your work. God Bless...rcaddict. Thanks again.
Todd Conn, I believe I had too large of a prop which caused the motor to overheat. The only damage that occurred from the landing was breaking one of the dowels for the landing gear and one of the 3d printed pieces, which we were able to fix very quickly. Once I get a new motor I’m thinking of trying something around an 18” prop compared to the 22” I was using.
I flew it again last night with a new motor and a 18x8 prop and it flew great. I’ll be posting a follow up video soon on installing the new motor and flying it again.
Cameron Moore, I imagine the first step would be to scout out a location that could host that large a group... one with a suitable airfield. Then contact FT with a proposal. In other words, grease the wheels. With their new home base, I would think their hands are full. Those in the NW would know the area so much better and could be helpers... just some thoughts.
Hi I’m 13 and live in Northern Ireland and was just trying to get into this hobby, I was wondering if there would be any way to get plans of the FT Sparrow with dimensions, was going to get the speed build kit but shipping by the cheapest option doubles the price and takes 2 weeks, after a bit of reaserch I’ve found a way to get foam board (a rare commodity in oul norn iron) but yeah, if there is anyway you can help me out that would be great
Why cannot we have flite fest in washington i mean in the summer its not rainy or cold at all plus its basiclly aviation central please try to do west next year or maybe this year because honestly i need some help flying
Wait are you sure thag one is from this year because on the flite fest page it only shows ohio which is happening or already happend and also texas innovember but no ca
NICE, I just wished someone would have sent me the email that flight fest was still here in Ohio. I did subscribe and request the news letter. Thanks for the awesome video now I'm headed home .Thanks Again. And God bless.....😭😭
Hey josh bixler in season 1 episode 8 the blue angels f-18 jet you told josh Scott he could fly it in the future when he was better. Has he flown it yet?
Great reason to be in the hobby. Making memories that will last a life time. You and your father built a great airplane.
I enjoyed every minute of Flite Fest Ohio 2018. The Storch was awesome in the air! Thanks again to the entire FliteTest family.

Great job on that build and great piloting! Big Thumbs-Up!
Heading for the Million and you all deserve it, well done, another great fest!
Excellent work, guys! Nicely done!
Needs to have the flaps and the fowler slats! Story can fly slow enough to walk next to with just a tiny headwind!
I hate that she lost power, but it looks like the landing was kinda soft so hopefully not much damage. Awesome build guys! Storch is a nice flying plane.
all the big builds i saw in social media got me inspired to get some builds going for the next west event.
I love seeing these events taking over, there are so many events in the us that have incredibly strict rules.
I came for the "most epic crashes", didn't see any, but that storch is awesome for sure.
That drone is awesome! Great footage! I want one of those.
I'm betting the battery shifted during the roll and came unplugged. Still great plane and effort. Love this.
richb313 It was actually a problem with the bearings in the motor seizing up. Currently I’m planning on trying some penetrating oil to see if that frees things up.
Andrew Erickson Thanks.
Andrew Erickson thanks. I was searching the comments for an answer 😁
@@AndrewJimmy2011 Thanks for that , wish you well with this aircraft !
Great looking Storch love it!
Beautiful plane. I love big planes. Awesome video
What a beautiful plane! Great job! One day i will join a FF event and see all these awesome creations in person!
Cool deal. Great maiden!
Wow what a huge plain. So cool!
That is awesome! Great video guys!
Totally awesome work!
Stephan always a great hype man.
nice build!!!
Brian Phillips, Thanks!

I love the flite fest tshirt design this year!!!
Haha that small plane crashing at 5:35
When I was growing up, I use to cut school after 1st period... I was bad... But if it means anything, I'm a whole lot worse now, so all things considering, I was a good kid.... Lol, I could see the plane John Overstreet made in the quadcopter shot at 1:29 in the bottom.
Wow, beautiful plane! 😮
Hope it's ok after that landing!
The only thing that broke was one of the landing gear dowels and one of the 3d printed parts which I was able to fix already. Thankfully there wasn’t any damage to the rest of the plane
Andrew Erickson That's great news, dude! Good to know! 😊
Do one in vegas! I wanna come play!
My dad built one just like it but with balsa wood and all the decals and paint etc on it
Came here with the promise of epic crashes...but this is good too.😆 Personally, can't wait for the first Flite Fest at Edgewater.
Hey flite test! I was just wondering if you guys have an approximate time when the plans will be done for the edge. Thank you so much guys!! Super excited!
What is meant by 'sketch factor analysis' at 1:42? What's the process and what are the tools involved? Thanks
love large rc builds
cool plane
wish you guys would do daily videos like you use to
When your fixed pitched prop feathers, you have a real issue.....
Can you put this in simpler terms so I can understand and be smarter?
They kept saying the prop feathered when they should have said windmilling. A fixed pitch prop cannot feather the blades. Only a constant speed / variable pitch prop can do that.

Love it. I want one....with a bigger motor and bigger battery. Lol
Randy Cox, it flew great with the motor on it but I’m pretty sure my prop was too big which is why the motor overheated.
What's the update on the NEW HQ site. Haven't heard much on the status/progress. Everything still ontrack?
I so wish I could've attended FliteFest... Too bad, I live in a whole different place on the planet... New Zealand doesn't really get events like these.
I wouldn't mind seeing some of the build challenges of this. It looks like the fuselage was double walled
Frederick J Gomeringer Jr, yeah pretty much the whole plane was just doubled up foam board
My favorite so far.
Are you guys going to have a flight fest west
Magical bir- Mystical Bird on a magical journey xD
Will there be a flite fest in Toronto/Canada?
Will we be seeing any Stan content in the next few videos? You guys shot footage with the original version last year and the new version this year, and of course we were able to get one side-by-side combat flight with both planes...
This video gave me an idea for my one crash project thanks fore the insperashion
This is more a Telemaster than a Storch but still cool!
Needs a lifting stabilizer for the Telemaster name.
Aww, :/ no closure. I was curious if it got damaged.
No damage other than a broken dowel rod on the landing gear which was by design! the motor did fail due to heat.
FliteTest I don't think I've ever seen a more successful big build. He really did awesome
Lol I could see me in the crowd!
That was awesome
Looks a whole lot like a huge Telemaster
Was this a kit we can buy?If so what is the link?
Very cool!
Captioned correctly now!😂
Dear flite test team, i have been following your channel from couple of months and enjoyed watching every single video.
Do you have any plans to design and fly a plane with uninterrupted power supply? May be from solar.
Very neat!
Excellent spectacular 😎👍👍

what servos did you used ?
33joee I used 4 of the Hitec 31311S HS-311 Servos
How about an ending gents. Im left hanging, was the plane damaged. What was the cause of the engine failure. Curious minds would like to know.
Todd Conn, I believe I had too large of a prop which caused the motor to overheat. Awesome, thanks for the reply.
I flew it again last night with a new motor and a 18x8 prop and it flew great. I’ll be posting a follow up video soon on installing the new motor and flying it again.
Who else saw it in person?
i did. i was camping right across from them.
Got some ideas for a stunt plane/race plane
Epic success but I need more videos
Flite Fest Pacific North West!
Cameron Moore, I imagine the first step would be to scout out a location that could host that large a group... one with a suitable airfield. Then contact FT with a proposal. all ft kits can be downloaded from theri web sight. for free and than print them off.
Now let's try again Dougal. These Storches are small. *These* Storches are *far away.*
Father Ted strikes again!
Love that plane
Dang it looks kinda simple to build.
What does it mean when he said that the prop started feathering?
Hi I enjoy your videos
You guys don't have any video of the B-36 bombing the Storch on its taxi run, do you?
Why cannot we have flite fest in washington i mean in the summer its not rainy or cold at all plus its basiclly aviation central please try to do west next year or maybe this year because honestly i need some help flying
TheRedGamerFPV you know there’s one in California right?
They obviously can’t hit all the states
Wait are you sure thag one is from this year because on the flite fest page it only shows ohio which is happening or already happend and also texas innovember but no ca
TheRedGamerFPV there wasn’t one this year becuase they were to busy setting up there new location I’m sure there will be one next year
Ahh ok this explains it i was wondering what you ment because ive checked every other day so i was wondering how i was missing it
Did I see tail flutter at one time ? But great job I wish I had one !! :-)
Macro Storch, STOL King!
Did you notice the plane crashing at 5:33
5:33 whoops, smaller plane catered in the background.
***CHALLENGE*** Get the actual Blue Angels pilots to fly in formation via FPV in tiny Blue Angel r/c planes!....or the Thunderbirds!
I saw myself at the very end of the video, big guy on the left next to Alex
aaah feal bad for him.
such a great airplane.
greetings,, Kitty.
AWESOME!!!!
I love this
I would name that plane Larry.
Wow its very huge plane
NICE, I just wished someone would have sent me the email that flight fest was still here in Ohio. I did subscribe and request the news letter. Thanks for the awesome video now I'm headed home .Thanks Again. And God bless.....😭😭
👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
The weight of this plane?
Λευτερης Λευτερης it was roughly 22lbs
u guys are my future....
Are y’all going to do one in Tennessee? Ohio and Texas and the West coast are way too far for me and my friends
Hey josh bixler in season 1 episode 8 the blue angels f-18 jet you told josh Scott he could fly it in the future when he was better. Has he flown it yet?
Only wish I could be there
Was wondering what happened to the plane. I've got footage on my phone of it landing in the beans.
Overall the plane was fine, just some minor damage to the landing gear. Although the motor bearings seized up so I’m working on fixing that issue.
What happenee to mosy epic crashes???
Little Scary how the Drone is so close sometimes
I try and get right up in there. Sometimes I get a bit close but makes for some great shots!!!
awesome
Storch : Stor like in Store and ch like an angry cat.
It's only 6s lipo? Wow
Make a plane with a fan propeller
very cool
Wheres the other video xD
