    When forming foam, a good tip is to use a low power heat gun or even a hairdryer, it heats up the foam and after you have formed it, the foam will cool down and take that shape, it won’t try to bend back

    As an RCer who's flown Warbirds from 1/12 scale WWII Combat to Giant Scale (1/5) - I've found that, the larger they are the more docile & predictable they fly. The difference in the inertia makes the small ones extremely sensitive & responsive, whereas the large planes will seem smooth & docile on the controls. Also, if you compare the "Cubic Wing Loading" between large & small planes, it becomes obvious how much more forgiving large planes are. One item that is important and makes a BIG a difference with large planes, is using PROPER Rudder Control. @Josh - Can't be letting your left thumb get lazy like that. It was very obvious on the launch. Also, when performing rolls, even some rudder input will feel like the power steering got turned on for your ailerons.

      Hughes was told by the PTB not to fly it, only to taxi it around Long Beach harbor at the last minute. He wanted to prove it could fly, because it was kind of a joke to his rivals who were already supplying planes to the military.
      So he got mad and lifted it out of the water out of spite. It ruined his chance of ever getting another government contract, but he didn’t care. He proved it could fly.

Was wondering if you wanted to go flying for a few hours.” Mind you I’ve never met or spoke with josh or anyone from flight test. They’re just the most humble, stand-up dudes in the hobby. I pray for more people like you guys (not sure if I’m allowed to use the blanket term “guys” nowadays, but I don’t really care) around for my children to either look up to or hang out with. I’ll probably have to move outside of the state of Florida to have the experience. We shall see. For now, thank you for all you do and the glimpse of hope for our future

    I love this so much! Please make massive versions of all your models, they are so cool haha👍👍
    Edit:
    You guys should talk to redi board about the monster foam so that they can make it and we can then get it in other countries ie. New Zealand so that we can scratch build these big models!

    • @rcbinchicken
      @rcbinchicken 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey dude, if you're an NZer like me and hanging out for good foam, hit up supermarkets/sushi shops etc. to get those polystyrene foam containers they deliver fish/meat in. They're about 750x300x200mm and the foam walls are about 30mm thick. More work than foam board because it doesn't come in a huge sheet, but it boxcutter-carves/sands/hot-wires great, tough as nails with packing tape over it and it'll tide you over until NZ gets a proper big-foamboard supply. :D I build all mine with it.

    • @cameronsteed2712
      @cameronsteed2712 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOONSMOCK that is actually a really good idea. I’ve been trying to find a place in nz that sells foam like that to make hot wired flying wings out of. But if you have an Uncle bills near you, i get my redi board from there. Same thing as in the US

    • @rcbinchicken
      @rcbinchicken 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cameronsteed2712 Not that shop specifically, sadly - I've found a few novelty shops that have foam board but it's like $9 for an A2-sized sheet and I think "screw this, time to go dumpster diving" :P How much is it at the place you mentioned? But yeah, the chilly-bin foam hotwires GREAT. They're easy to set up - my bow uses some steel welding filament I got in a garage sale as the cutting wire, and for power I use an AC/DC adapter I think is from either an old laptop or an old LCD monitor. Bow is just some scrap wood held together by a couple of nails, and a bungy cord for tension. About $12 all up!

    • @linecraftman3907
      @linecraftman3907 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rcbinchicken I'm from Ukraine and here we use smooth foam 50x50cm celling tiles instead of foam board. Not the ones found in offices but the you you glue onto ceiling. I did some googling and it looks like you guys have these tiles but I'm not sure if there's any smooth ones.

    • @cameronsteed2712
      @cameronsteed2712 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOONSMOCK it is $3 for a sheet for a roughly 750x500x5mm sheet, but since it’s the American stuff they sell it as 30x20 inches. Cheap as chips.

    Found your channel just recently ... I was in the hobby briefly when I was younger but life came along and things changed .... I'm from Ohio & love that you're based there - As I was recently diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, I have a little more "free time" to live vicariously though others like you guys - Fun channel - Thank you for letting me share your dreams -

    I'm so happy i found this channel! So many great builds and fun projects!
    With tons of creds and respect for the editing, I feel that some more sound of the props, especially from the ground when doing the fly-by, would enhance the experience of watching your flights. Such a tease when Alex says he loves the sound of that huge prop, but most of the sound is the high pitched buzz from the drone :P
    Really looking forward to see whats coming up!

    Absolutely awesome guys, well done. Coat of paint and you would be hard pressed telling it from a scratch or ARF. Foam board is a great product!!..... and it's risk free flying, low weight, lower chance of damage or injury - very nice. 😁

  • @ditzydoo4378

    Oh My Goddess!!! I've always wanted to try scale model flight, but always was afraid of how fragile and expensive they were until now. These foam builds looks so good and are incredible durable and I like how they are so much slower in flight compared to other which are no were near scale speed and are very intimidating to watch fly and require near super human reflexes to control. I know now that through Flight-Test I'll be able to achieve a dream.
