I've been a Flite Test lurker for a couple of years now. One of the things I like most about this group, besides the obvious technical aspects of their builds and attention to making sure that everything they do is attainable to the majority of enthusiasts, is the personal character and enthusiasm of the people themselves. They really do seem like very decent people who want everyone to find joy and camaraderie with family and friends via a common interest in a hobby.
Aloha. we have A-10 Warthogs here from Kansas City training with Marines. From the front the wings remind me of Corsairs. Watching this video is great.
Don't you mean a common interest in THE hobby. Is there any other hobby that compares to building and flying your own creations. Everyone should experience this. It's friggin' beautifull.
I have a balsa wood kit Corsair hanging on my home office wall. I built it with my dad over 50 yrs ago. It was a u-line plane with an Enya on it. Seeing yours fly was pretty emotional. Lots of memories Thanks for posting!
I built and flew hobby balsa kit planes like 30 years ago. I still have my channel 40 radio with the ribbons on the antenna somewhere. lol I want to get into this again with all this digital tech
I noticed that too... but then again, it feels really awesome to build a flying machine and have it fly first try... I really love what these guys do for kids and for people who don't want to spend 10,000 bucks for a cool rc plane. not to mention how much you learn building your own
If it wasn't for Josh Bixler I would have never flown a plane. Bought the Flite Test book off Amazon, read it a million times then bought a Hobbyzone Champ, and then 10 more planes. Thanks, Josh and all the members of Flite Test and that cool intern that left for making an expensive hobby into a everyday hobby for all including families.
Just a quick Thank You! I am a scratch builder, and have built a few of your planes and have a lot of fun with them as a break from a long several month build! The main thing is, you are getting young people interested, and interested in BUILDING!!! I see so many people anymore just buy an arf and fly for a bit and quit, they miss the whole intent of the hobby.. thanks again, you guys are great!

All that i can say is that you are not like other companies. you make it very easy to build these and not use complex and expensive materials. you allow the ability to use the electrical components in more than just the plane you buy it for. you allow the ability to make your own plane with your own material with the free build planes you offer. you aren't a money-hungry business, which is very hard to find nowadays. thank you for that. you understand that no one really wants to spend hundreds and maybe even thousands of dollars on something they like to do for fun. you make it very easy, and not expensive to get into this hobby. thank you. keep up the good work, and stay safe.
I didn't watch it at first, then I discovered it and got into it. Then it got cancelled after 2 seasons. I keep promising myself I'll pick it up on DVD. One day.

Flew one once in real life, thanks gma for the 16th birthday. Loops, stalls n barrel rolls. Excellent vehicle. Lady pilot re-built a ww2 corsair and for the cash will take you to the moon in 1943. Excellent experience, awesome vehicle. God speed and good luck flite test.
Please take a whistle off of a foam nerf football or something similar and put it on the Corsair so that it will whistle while flying by. Like the real deal
Beat me to the response! There are different sizes and styles of whistles in nerf products. The footballs sound louder, but the whistle design is bulkier. There are lower profile whistles in the Nerf Howler and also Nerf darts, but they have to travel faster than the footballs to make good sounds.
You all have outdone yourselves with the corsair. The presence and the silhouette in the air is insanely awesome. The way it flies and the way it maneuvers through the air, it just looks like a real corsair!! Love it!!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW WOOOOOOW... I HAVE TO HAVE IT... I had several Corsairs and I miss all of them... this bird is so unique... my 1st flight with a Corsair went straight into the ground after 5 seconds of being airborne.... i had to wait to be a better pilot before enjoying this beauty...thank you guys for providing us this peace of history...
The original version of the f4u was actually made with a small 3 propeller prop that had problems landing on carriers because of the stall and they gave the designs to the us marines who changed the prop and also took off the 6 50 cal. Machine guns and added 4 30mm Browning machine guns and then passed it back to the navy and then became one of the best fighter planes in ww2 in my opinion and even was used in early Vietnam so in general this is an amazing plane with a awesome history so just some fun facts!
Decided to order a couple flight test planes over break and built them with my Dad and brother. Tons of fun. Built the Spitfire. Power pack combo and speed build kit were awesome. Cannot recommend flight test enough. Such a great idea and you can truly tell how much work they put in to making these kits work. Was waiting for a larger Corsair model. New techniques look awesome too. Can't want to build and fly!!!

5 years ago, the Viggen came out and I remember just geeking out over that plane. This plane has brought back that feeling not only to me but to my dad and my brother. I can’t wait to build this with them. Thanks John and the flite test team for another awesome plane!
Keep the old planes coming. I have never bought a kit and will be buying this one. You can thank John and son for growing your community......and after watching full video I will also be buying a plane to get me to and intermediate pilot.
That is seriously impressive. I’ve been building FT planes with foamboard for a few years now, and while I love the material, the downside always seemed to be that there would always be flat surfaces, making scale a challenge. John’s ingenuity has provided an alternative, and that really looks good! BTW, I came within a couple of miles of meeting up with all of you in Fayette MO... the snowy roads decided otherwise. My car couldn’t make it up the last hill before the event. I was really sorry to miss out. Hope you can come back to Missouri one of these days!
My dad loves WW2 planes so I just ordered this along with everything needed to get it in the air so I can have a fun Father's Day activity to do with my dad and my son. As soon as you add a P-38 to your fleet I'll probably snap that up too.
With you flying the Corsair, and the little quad, reminds me of our Red Tailed hawks being constantly chased and harassed by the much smaller blackbirds. Beautiful plane. Nice job building and flying.

A common configuration for the Corsair had two large drop tanks. You could use these almost like skids for landing. It would still be scale, could be made to not induce too much drag, and could maybe save some wear and tear on the prop and leading edge of the wings. This thing looks great in the air! Thanks for sharing.

This looks awesome! The F4U has been my favourite for over 40 years. It was the star of my favourite childhood tv show "Bah Bah Black Sheep" I will definitely have to build one! Great Job!
I have to say, you guys are doing great things for the hobby! I think a lot of POTENTIAL flyers get quickly discouraged and switch to hobby cars and trucks or they just quit altogether because there are some skills you need to build to become successful enough to have fun and not spend 50% of their time crashing and the other half rebuilding what they crashed. You guys offer a lot of folks the ability to build those skills while not spending loads of money. Keep it up! P.S. I think you should continue with weekly or monthly 'how to's' on becoming a better pilot, that'll go along very well with your DIY plane line, cheers!

Just wow. I remember when Flite Test first started, and how far things have come especially with the foam beam planes. I never properly paid attention until particularly the Sea Duck/Sea Angel came out. Then I took foam board modeling seriously. Please do a Spitfire in the Master series next.

Hey guys. I've been around since before "$30 DIY 100mph Jet." And you guys have inspired me to start researching Avation structure, as well as designing and drafting. Now, im getting ready to build "The Gekko" from the anime, 'Eureka Seven.' Thanks for all the awesome content guys. Keep inspiring young minds! (Im only 19. XD)
There's more to the bent wing than simply a big prop. The Corsair was built for speed so they wanted to minimize drag. A round cowling has less drag than an oval shape you see with the Hellcat, meaning they had to put the oil coolers somewhere else. Placing them in the wing made it impossible for the gear to fold inward which limited its length. A NACA report found that by placing the wing joint perpendicular to the fuselage a lot of induced drag is decreased meaning that the inner wing section was going to have to come out at that "bent" angle otherwise the fuselage would practically be dragging the ground. Also the props on the Hellcat and Thunderbolt are almost the same size the difference is the P-47 has telescoping landing gear which is complex and impractical for carrier use and the F6F has a more ellipsoidal fuselage than the F4U. Another bonus fact, the large prop on the Corsair was done to reduce the number or engine revolutions required to keep the plane in a steady cruise. By pulling back on the power and using a more aggressive pitch angle the F4U was able to have a massive combat range. The techniques for maximizing range for combat aircraft came from Charles Lindbergh while he was flying P-38s

I have always loved the F4U Corsair ever since I was interested in aerial flight. It is one of the most interesting pieces of beautiful art. The way that it gradually soars through the air. It was called many names, such as the Ensign Eliminators and The Bent Wing Bird. With a the bent wing it needs that for the power and torque of the engine, which is the term of "gull wing".
Amazing looking airplane! Great job John and thank you Flite Test for doing a video acknowledging his talent. I had to find his channel because of that clip of him throwing what looked like an F-14. He has made some beautiful planes. I definitely see a lot that I would like for Flite Test to incorporate into their lineup.
I issue a challenge to you guys at flite test! Now I'm just getting into the rc airplane hobby because of you guys. Matter of fact I bought the pientenpol, and ww1 mini fighter kits from you guys. Anyways here's the challenge make a kit based off of the either the c-121 or EC-121 aka super constilation. My father was in the air force from 66 to 70 and that's all his squadron delt with :) basically the predecessor to modern day AWACS. and I also hope if you guys do take the challenge that you make a kit for the rest of us to purchase and enjoy :) thank you guys for everything! Still in the process of buying the stuff I need for my kits from you guys Haha! Thank you again! Didnt realize there were so many other kit requests Haha!

Have you done a JU-87 Stuka yet? Especially if you can get the "siren" effect! Although I'd love to see my father's airplane as a foam board electric. The name of the plane was "Duffy's Tavern" it was a B-17 from the 8th Airforce.
This video was unusually enjoyable! Don't get me wrong; your content is great - I just really liked the unusually calm nature of Josh's presentation in this one. It somehow seemed very sincere, natural and slightly more grown up. Good stuff! - And that plane is a beauty!

IF I remember correctly, the bent wings wasn't really an issue with having such a large propeller, it was more for having shorter, stronger landing gear for carrier landings. One of my favorite planes!

If you're ok with difficulty, NerdNic has one in his "Beta Builds" section on his website. The speedwings are a lot more difficult than FT wings, but the end result is worth it in my opinion. From scratch, each wing takes me about an hour and thats after getting used to the process. If you have access to a print plotter, the plans can be much easier to make as well.
This is my favorite plane I have 4 of them already, I will have to check it out! Thanks guys for the hard work and the excellent videos yall make for us. Keep up the good work.

Cut out cockpit. Put gopro for fpv. Make clear canopy for cockpit. Boom Even more amazing camera angle.

When I was a kid, this plane was my favorite WW2. I watched The Black Sheep weekly on T.V. Great build!

This is one of my favorite aircraft of all time. A model of it is something I might be making after seeing this.
Something about the bent wings just set it apart from the rest.

There's more to the bent wing than simply a big prop. The Corsair was built for speed so they wanted to minimize drag. A round cowling has less drag than an oval shape you see with the Hellcat, meaning they had to put the oil coolers somewhere else. Placing them in the wing made it impossible for the gear to fold inward which limited its length.
A NACA report found that by placing the wing joint perpendicular to the fuselage a lot of induced drag is decreased meaning that the inner wing section was going to have to come out at that "bent" angle otherwise the fuselage would practically be dragging the ground.
Also the props on the Hellcat and Thunderbolt are almost the same size the difference is the P-47 has telescoping landing gear which is complex and impractical for carrier use and the F6F has a more ellipsoidal fuselage than the F4U.
Another bonus fact, the large prop on the Corsair was done to reduce the number or engine revolutions required to keep the plane in a steady cruise. By pulling back on the power and using a more aggressive pitch angle the F4U was able to have a massive combat range. The techniques for maximizing range for combat aircraft came from Charles Lindbergh while he was flying P-38s

Looks amazing, flies so scale. I’d spray mine yellow and keep the white accents but put stripes on the bottom for orientation.
I have always loved the F4U Corsair ever since I was interested in aerial flight. It is one of the most interesting pieces of beautiful art. The way that it gradually soars through the air. It was called many names, such as the Ensign Eliminators and The Bent Wing Bird. With a the bent wing it needs that for the power and torque of the engine, which is the term of "gull wing".
Could you maybe make a more detailed and a larger scale spitfire, maybe the size of your warthog??

Amazing looking airplane! Great job John and thank you Flite Test for doing a video acknowledging his talent. I had to find his channel because of that clip of him throwing what looked like an F-14. He has made some beautiful planes. I definitely see a lot that I would like for Flite Test to incorporate into their lineup.
I issue a challenge to you guys at flite test! Now I'm just getting into the rc airplane hobby because of you guys. Matter of fact I bought the pientenpol, and ww1 mini fighter kits from you guys. Anyways here's the challenge make a kit based off of the either the c-121 or EC-121 aka super constilation. My father was in the air force from 66 to 70 and that's all his squadron delt with :) basically the predecessor to modern day AWACS. and I also hope if you guys do take the challenge that you make a kit for the rest of us to purchase and enjoy :) thank you guys for everything! Still in the process of buying the stuff I need for my kits from you guys Haha! Thank you again! Didnt realize there were so many other kit requests Haha!

Have you done a JU-87 Stuka yet? Especially if you can get the "siren" effect! Although I'd love to see my father's airplane as a foam board electric. The name of the plane was "Duffy's Tavern" it was a B-17 from the 8th Airforce.

IF I remember correctly, the bent wings wasn't really an issue with having such a large propeller, it was more for having shorter, stronger landing gear for carrier landings. One of my favorite planes!

If you fly an air carrier, use magnets to help the airplane land and essentially stick when landing. Use Neodymium magnets.

If you're ok with difficulty, NerdNic has one in his "Beta Builds" section on his website. The speedwings are a lot more difficult than FT wings, but the end result is worth it in my opinion. From scratch, each wing takes me about an hour and thats after getting used to the process. If you have access to a print plotter, the plans can be much easier to make as well.

IMHO, the P-51D was the most elegant and slick warbird of WWII. It would be awesome if you guys designed a P-51D using the Master Series techniques.
