@@wumpus976 this one's got a little bit more mystery to it imo while rapture's is kind of revealed (thru exposition) out of the gate. Not saying it's bad by any means, it's still prolly one of the top 5 best video game intros in my book
The only scene in my 35 years of gaming that I shed a tear. From someone who started playing games on a Commodore 64 playing blocky platformers, that 7 year old kid couldn't have imagined interacting with something as beautiful as this.
I remember how hyped I was when playing this game. So later when playing with friends on public minecraft server I built my own Columbia and while other players were fighting for their homes I had my own peaceful city up in the skies for a looong time :D
God this reveal still hits to this day. I love that little piano that plays as you see the city. It suits the tone of the game and the presentation is amazing. The game might of had tons of flaws. Might of even been a bad bio shock game. But Elizabeth and that little intro will be stuck in my head forever.
I was literally gasping when I first played Infinite and this level went on. I loved the original Bioshock and the entrance to Rapture, but this was awe inspiring on a whole another level.
By far one of the greatest openings to a video game. All these years later and I still use Bioshock infinites opening to judge the opening of other video games. So far very few have been able to compare to this.
I played this fantastic beginning again and again at least a dozen times after I beat the game itself. It's so amazing, so thrilling and extremely atmospheric. The sheer beauty of Columbia when you see it the first time, congenially accompanied by the soft music, is awe inspiring. The moment when I walked the streets, watched all the life going on and about - incredible. I was literally sad when the action part began and the beauty began to turn into a nightmare. One of the greatest gaming experiences I ever had (I play games since back in '94).
The style is great but the gameplay is super linear and repetitive compared to Bioshock 1 and 2. I played Infinite once or twice, but I replayed 1 and 2 at least 4 or 5 times. Infinite's gameplay is just meh
Now go back and play it on xbox series s/x....the reflections are so rich its trippy. I had to screenshot 4:58 and take a picture on my phone just so I knew I wasnt tripping. The reflections look like a room beneath your feet perfectly mirroring the real world above. Amazing
I am Andrew Ryan, and I'm here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'It belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'It belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'It belongs to everyone.' I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... Rapture, a city where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, Where the great would not be constrained by the small! And with the sweat of your brow, Rapture can become your city as well. I know im like 15 years late but I just wanted to say that 🙂
i never played bioshock as i didn't really like the gameplay of the first game but i gotta say the setting is great, but this intro isn't great, it is not even good neither it is just ok, IT IS AN ABSOLUTE masterpiece

Bioshock 1 and 2 were parodies and satire of ayn rand and unchecked capitalism as well as drug trade mixed with the 60s Bioshock infinite was a parody of american exceptionalism, extreme christian beliefs and puritanism.
The best opening to any video game that I’ve ever played
I personally prefer Rapture’s intro from Bioshock 1, but this is also pretty good.

U haven’t seen final fantasy 12s intro movie……watch it….Star Wars meets lord of the rings meets big screen trailer.
BioShock 1
Totally agree. And stoned also when i played so double the fun 😂
rapture makes you gawk.
columbia makes you cry.
I'll never forget those intros.
Conversely, when analyzing their societies,
Rapture makes you think, “this could work”.
Columbia makes you think, “of course it failed.”

That's actually so cool. I built my own Rapture and I too was at peace for a loooong time. Eventually people found me.
"Looks like they expect me to sit in this here fancy chair.", said Booker as he quite vividly noticed the handcuffs.
