Having experienced both of you teaching in your "natural habitat" [KNX + CombatAcademy] and since both topics are Martial Art I know how much fun you and your students had - so I'd say it's a tie. :-)
The best part of this was when Oliver closed the laptop saying "yea yea!" and by doing so stopped Jesse from adding "..the birthplace of Karate" to his "...from Okinawa" :D
Loved Oliver’s way of teaching kata. Learning only a portion of it and understand the application is surely better than learning the movements of the whole thing, but not understanding any of it.
Yes! Because otherwise, you will always wonder, "why do I have to pee myself at this point?" Only when you realise you are in an icebath, it starts to make sense.
both of you introduced good ideas: - Jesse's idea of shadow boxing before practicing the drill with a partner was great, less stress makes it easy to remember the moves. - Oliver's idea of teaching bunkai during the Kata training was great, knowing what you are doing, instead of just what to do, is a great way to remember the forms.
Exaxtly - even though I only trained traditional karate for about 10 years, that is my best way of learning in every other martial art I have engaged in sever since.
Oliver breaking down a kata he’s never done before into chunks and associating bunkai with each one to better remember and assist in his teaching was pretty smart.
That is the best way to learn kata. I did that with the first 5th to 7th kyu classes I was allowed to teach. After their graduation tests Sensei said that they were the best kata he had seen at that level.
This was hilarious at times. I have to say though, when you both took each others class you both became very serious and look to have done a brilliant job, in new surroundings. Loved this video.
As someone with a background in traditional martial arts (kenpo and tae kwon do) who transitioned to MMA about ten years ago, I normally watch your videos half liking them and half shaking my head. However, I really, really liked this one! I loved how Oliver showed the students how the kata moves could be applied, and Jesse's use of the mirror before partner drilling was great. It's a really good reminder that we all have things we can learn from each other. Also, Jesse, you should try that ice bath after the intense MMA session, it does wonders for muscle recovery.
I liked how each of you borrowed from your respective disciplines to teach each class. For example - in Katas, it’s easy to get lost in its purpose for newer students, and Oliver helped bring it home by deconstructing each move with partner work (partner work is big in MMA and Muay Thai) to show real life application.
That was probably the best thing about his class: even if the students don't remember any of the specific techniques they did that night, they will still remember the principles of looking for real applications in kata.
I also liked Jesse's approach of letting the students get a feel on how their bodies move with the techniques instead of immediately learning in the scramble.
wow, this video is different, in a good way! The best part is that both of you guys had to teach a class, and it was so satisfying to see how you and Oliver all had struggles, overcoming them and implementing a bit of your traditional and mma styles into the teachings. Very entertaining and educational
I loved the practical approach from the MMA fighter and the focuses on movement emphasized from the Karate Nerd. Both classes were improved by these new points of view
Watching your TH-cam channel with my son has made him really passionate about Karate. Though he is 9 years old, he wants to move to Okinawa to learn from the masters. Thank you for your amazing videos!
It's great to see how well you two get along! I think you two did very well, especially after breaking down the steps of the exercises and kata and focusing on those smaller parts. I love my brother, and we get along really well, but I wish he practiced karate with me!
@@KARATEbyJesse I really respect your dedication to Karate, it motivates me to put extra effort into my Martial Arts and I appreciate it! If you haven't already, could you try to make a video on grappling? Things like Jiu-Jitsu and Wrestling would be really entertaining to watch and I think you'd have fun learning them too. It's a really technical art, there's a lot of holds to switch to constantly, trying to counter your opponent's own grapples and holds and being constantly aware of their movements.
Jesse: I'm your new teacher for today... breaks out bo staffs and nunchucks. Oliver: I'm your new teacher for today...breaks out spinning back fists and liver kicks. You both brought something new to the table for your classes!👍
Man, this type of cross training seems really valuable both for the teachers and the students! I love seeing the practical applications of the katas as well as the MMA techniques being broken down to just movement and mechanics.
That is hard you both did very well. Honestly in my opinion I think Oliver just because when I asked my self the first name that came to mind was Oliver Enkampe. However, I really like how Jesse removed the distraction of the other person and did practice on the mirror. As well as pay very close attention to the students. Oliver Enchampe impressed me when he started teaching the students a framework to use as a self-defense. Personally I believe your brother is a way better karate instructor. Just like how you are a way better MMA instructor. You two are both amazing. So much love and heart you both fight with honour. Way to go Oliver Enkampe. 👏
Thank you for all of yours and Oliver’s hard work to bring this to us! It is VERY much appreciated. Especially the content for beginners up to the experienced.
I'm just amazed by how they're switching, made them so compelling, completing to each other training styles and even life experiences in comedic manner. I like they're personal touch through thought process and excercise methods in training sessions. Wonderful. Thank you for that fun and meaningful brothers Enkamps experience.
The way Jesse teaches a striking class is actually almost identical to how my kickboxing coach trains us. We train WAKO point kickboxing with some self-defense but I know my coach originally started in karate. Maybe that's where he gets it from!
You guys are great! Doing what someone else does is a great way to better understand them. I’d love to see more videos with you both in this style. I’m not sure if you could take it all the way, like, Jesse have an armature MMA fight and Oliver compete in a kata tournament. That might be too extreme. Either way, more brother videos. Thanks for all the awesome content guys!
Both of you and your brother were out of your element and the two of you did your best. So what have you and your brother learn from this freaky Friday experience? Should’ve finished watching a video Oliver (0:40). My thoughts exactly (0:47).
Fun video, I really enjoyed it. Watching Oliver explain and show practical uses behind the moves reminds me of the Taekwondo instructors my daughter works with. Sure, the kids can learn to mimic all the moves for their poomsae (kata), but when the instructors start to break it down and demonstrate why they do those moves and what they're designed to do, you can see a lot of the students start to connect the movement to the real application and it helps make the forms more engaging. My daughter helps with instructing the younger students and she applies that method to teaching them the forms, what the moves are meant to be used for.
Awesome, funny and very insightful video. Thanks for it! I'd like to suggest something: I'm not sure if everyone else's thought processes work like mines, but I think that wrapping the video with a final reflection or thorough perspective of what was experienced and learned in the process would be really useful to see what you have taken as valuable lessons, so we can use such lessons as well. Thanks again! Kind regards from Chile!

I love this! Like, you and oliver 2 fighting brothers but also so different. But you can see that although you know mostly karate it's still practical for people who wanna learn mma and same goes the other way around.
run to the hills made me crack up 😂😂 oliver explaining bunkai was actually impressive tho. breaking it up to bite sized pieces so it can get in their head. visualizing is also helpful for memorizing bc it helpd you remember more info, and you can imagine a lil camera playing which reminds you when to time the movements
I would also like to mention that, despite me not being a practitioner of either Karate or MMA, I am really happy to know that you wonderful gentlemen made this very interesting and fun even to the point where I would have considered giving both martial arts a go not for competition's sake but for keeping my activity levels up.
Great video. I agree with the commenter who suggested that you guys get together at the end and reflect or share how you each felt about the training. One thing I think might be better, instead of straight up switching would be for you to train together doing the each other's normal workout. That way there is no slacking off on intensity, etc.
You guys make a great team! You should have your own show! Oh wait, you do have your own show! Keep up the great job Sensei’s! I can’t wait for the next one!

I just notice that taekwando sounds like ‘tae-kwon-do’ it must mean something
@@HAQEEMisHERE
It does. "Taekwondo" comes from three Korean words, tae, "kick," kwon, "fist or punch," and do, "the art/way of."
