    I remember when the Yumeijin used to be Dix's Fish shop where you could either sit inside with a wall mural of trees or take away. It was always popular and had a queue. Morrisons used to be my old school (Freemans) and Croyland motors was next door.
    Step outside, 'cause summertime's in bloom
    Stand up beside the flower place
    Take that look from off your face
    'Cause you are gonna burn my heart out
    And so, Lisa can wait
    She knows it's too late as she's walking on by
    My soul slides away
    But don't look back in anger, I heard you say

    Sad to see that. Bought flowers many a time there when I lived in the area. And bought many records from Martin's Old & New, which occupied the building behind on the opposite side of the street. Some I still have! Those pics from the museum brought back memories. I remember the demolition of the Lyric Theatre in the 70's to make way for the Arndale, as it was originally known. Also all the stuff around the bottom end of the market where BM now is. My mum reckons the rot started when the knocked the Corn Exchange down in the 60s to make way for the (now gone) Fine Fare store. The 70's were a strange time for Wellingborough.

    Sad to hear this. Lisa and her mum were neighbours of ours for many years, and I remember her starting work at the shop when it was 'Flowers by Glennis'.

    The red and white building across from the florists used to be Martin's Second Hand shop, and the white one was the Cadet cafe which used to be run by a lovely little old Greek couple. My friend and I used to go for home made milkshakes there when I was at Wellingborough College in the 1990's. They have been shut for so long it's criminal, really. I don't understand why the council lets these buildings stand empty and boarded up for literal decades. I'm sad to see Flowers by Lisa go the same way. IIRC it used to be Flowers by Glynnis. Our high street is really a disgrace :(
    Also, I mentioned The Witch Wood to my mother, and she mentioned that one of her patients many years ago ( Mum ran a Physio Clinic in Wboro for many years) told her that that those woods were used to store Mustard gas supplies during WW2! Interesting tidbit for you!

    So sad, like you we’ve always used Lisa’s for flowers. So sad to see this town crumbling before our eyes over the years. Although it’s good they can still trade on line

    Hi purple 👋unfortunately modern times dictate the use of online shopping. What with council rates ,gas x leccy prices it becomes the cheapest option for most shop owners☹my dad had a grocery shop in Midland road Bedford (1970s)was underpriced by local supermarkets😥he closed up and went to work for British Rail😊

    • @PurpleVision23
      @PurpleVision23  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yh council rates are killing a lot of it and for what... Paying a few out of town monkeys to govern a town they don't care about. NNC out!
