I feel like a lot of these kids send in their pictures hoping you’ll call them out so they can show their parents that they need a bigger cage and all these things hoping to get their parent on board. It’s something I would’ve done back when I was 11💕

I am 14 and am looking to get a ferret. I think younger children shouldn’t get pets personally, only if the parents can take responsibility for financial responsibility and main care. I completely agree with you! Young children shouldn’t be pet parents, I just don’t agree with it.

This is a comment for you and the reply that you got I am 13 years old and I have a guinea pig she lives in a 2 x 4 connected to a one by two the size is definitely big enough for 2 to 3 guinea pigs and I did rescue her from a very bad situation I pay for everything I always do health checks but I definitely do agree that 13 is around like the youngest age to be able to get a small pet because anything younger than that Usually ends bad

@@Carolinetamai1983 I got my piggy’s a few months before I turned 12 (I’m 12 now) and they are in a 2x4 and in the next 2-5 days they are getting a 3x4. I think as long as the person is educated and over around 7-9 then they are able to have a pet.

@@Carolinetamai1983 thinking that it is okay to have only one guinea pig shows you are too young and arent able yet to do proper research and give the animal his basic needs. And how tf do you all pay for the needs? I spend more than 100 dollar a month on 4 piggies. How has a child that money??
Like I wasnt allowed to get my own pet before I turned 18. The pets we owned were my parents pets and I was allowed to help with everything. But they werent mine. And that is how it should be... not kids owning pets and the parents helping (what most of the time doesn't happen and you get mistreated and even abused pets)

I 100% agree with you on letting kids on animals if they don't give them the proper care (or just people in general). I'm tired of seeing people get a guinea pig or guinea pigs but not give them the proper environment. I got my guinea pig last year in February from a pet store (we all know what cage I had), but then I came across your videos I got a 2nd guinea pig, 2x5 c&c cage, and a lot happier guinea pigs. Sorry this was a long comment but thanks for all the educational videos you have put out so far!

I, 12 years old, have recently upgraded my piggies cages. They have C&C grids that are about 1 foot and 15inch’s each. The cage for the two is a 2 by 4, bigger than normal(I got chloroplast and it’s the actual size and I struggled to make the grids fit 💀👍🏼) and my single piggie is in a 2 by 3. I’m so happy I changed it and so far it’s so much easier to clean the cages and take care of my piggies. Thank you for inspiring me to do better! ❤️❤️ stay strong 💪

I definitely agree with you about kids having pets. My 11 year old sister (we have a 13 year age gap) has 5 rabbits, 2 Guinea pigs and 2 hamsters. The rabbits are in suitable conditions, the Guinea pigs are in slightly small cage but not as terrible as the ones on this video. However they had no hidey homes so I had to go out and purchase a couple. But the hamsters! Both in pet shop cages one which was too big to even use it’s wheel (had the excuse she doesn’t like wheels, got her a suitable size one and she uses it all the time), recently went out and spent over £100 on better enclosures for them. I don’t live with them and have my own pets to deal with (2 dogs and fish). Parents need to take more responsibility for these pets they buy for their kids. And when the buy them, be willing to spend the money on making sure they are in appropriate living conditions.

I totally agree with your “kids shouldnt have animals unless they have help from parents” point. I got my first pet (a betta) as a very young kid, and that poor fish was abused. I am still very guilty about it. Then, years later, I got my second pet (a budgie) as a 10 year old. I had done like a year of research, and I knew what I was doing, but expecting a kid to do EVERYTHING for a pet is terrible. I did all the daily care, feeding, watering, playing with, cleaning, but my parents paid for all the stuff. The food, vet appointments, toys and perches. I now think that 10 years old was very young to get a pet. I, while I knew what I was doing, still wasn’t the best pet parents (because I was a child).
I think that 13-14 is a good age for your first pet, with financial support from parents. I don’t think anybody younger than 18 should get a pet if their parents dont expect to pay all the bills and stuff. It’s a recipe for disaster.

Agreed. I got my first pet at 15 I believe? Had her for about four years but she got bladder stones and stasis and had to be put to sleep😢 but my parents taught me responsibility at a young age so if anything was ever wrong with her I was taking her to the vet and doing anything necessary to give her comfort and care that will always be my baby ❤️

this was so refreshing to watch. Thankyou so much by being honest about these bad cages. Its an awful thing seeing pigs in them. I know its not the kids fault but maybe these kids will show the parents what you have said and do something about it. Even if ONE PARENT listens to their child and changes the pigs life it is a fantastic thing.

I had a single Guinea pig when I was 13. She was a birthday gift. I begged for a Guinea pig after reading the book,”Rules” where she had two of them. I begged my mom for a second because she needed a friend or she would get sad and lonely. I did the research but at 13 couldn’t get my mom to understand any of the proper care for the Guinea. My mom really just thought I desperately wanted a second. I also explained that she needed a larger cage but my mom wouldn’t listen. These animals should always be for adults to care for with the help of children. I could only advocate for my Guinea so much because if my mom wasn’t invested in the Guinea then how could I be as invested as I wanted to be without her help. She was a good mom and helped me A LOT with the Guinea. But I think since she wasn’t 100% into my Guinea then she didn’t do 100% of the effort to help. 😢 our Guinea lived a good long 6 years. 3 with us and then we moved across the country and we didn’t want to stress her so my friend took her for the last three. ❤

I'm like no, I have a dog and the kids are always doing everything else and don't care to do just the smallest things.. which is fine he's mine not my kids, he's my comfort and a true best friend. thank you for calling this out though cause parnets need to stop, and those parnets who don't they truthfully need to reasile the animals are yours not your kids

I’m 28 and the amount of times my mom got me pets only to put them in WAY too small cages breaks my heart even now. Thankfully I’ve learned and vow to never allow it to happen again but it still hurts to know we were mistreating so many animals. Kids should NOT have pets unless their parent are educated and willing to pay for good housing and vet bills.

I agree with the not letting children take full responsibility for pets, my 10 year old has 2 guinea pigs but I do 99% of everything for them as I have had them all myblife and love them. We do have them in a hutch as we planned on a rabbit indoors with free roaming most of the time. However we changed our mind when we saw the piggies and are changing over to a c and c ASAP. Disclaimer the huch is 4ft x 1.5ft and 2 stories which I hate for piggies as they struggle with the ladder so I've added a tunnel on it to help them. I always had c and c cages before and loved them.

I really appreciate you talking about children with pets, because kids should not have pets on their own. I got all my animals when i was around 14 and in no way could i afford their stuff on my own without my mother. This shows that no matter how "responsible" a child is, they cannot take care of pets on their own. I am now 16 with a job and can afford my pets but if i didn't have a job, my mom would STILL be the one paying for all their neccessities.

@@HayleighKitkatHershey awe. I’m sorry. Just do the best with what you have. And ask for things for Christmas and your Birthday. She might take it more seriously if she sees you taking it serious❤ I have 2 teenage girls that have 5 piggies a 6 rats and 2 Bunnies. They started out with just 2. When I saw they were actually helping me taking care of them and wanting things for them for their birthdays was ok with getting more. 😉 I’m thinking about doing a video talking to the parents about this because I know it has to be hard on you. And I also understand how it feels to be the parent that has to buy everything and make sure everything is going good.

I am a new watcher and a new piggy mom, of 2. I was lied to about age and gender so after doing my research and getting c and c cages and a table ect ect ipicked both of them up 3.5 hours away to find out there was one male and one female sp I had to cut my enclosure by 1/2 giving both the bare minimum space. Sucks but I am working on teaching my children to help ME care for them. They are my pets not for my children I made that mistake once woth a hampster RIP. Never again. So thanks for your videos and another guy. So thank you so much for giving the info I needed to be a good parent from the start

I 100% agree about the kid thing. I got guinea pigs when I was 12 with my mom and she said she would take care of them but I had to help which I was ok with but after a few months she stopped helping me at all and it was a huge responsibility that I didn’t agree to. I’m now almost 15 but animals are still a big responsibility no matter the age.

    • @Editzzz4

I personally don’t fully agree with the kid thing. I feel that anyone 9 and up are okay and old enough to take care of Guinea pigs. Not all kids are bad at taking care of Guinea pigs just some. Like i have two Guinea pigs in a 8 foot cage and next week im moving them into a 18 foot cage. I take very good care of them and that shows that kids can take good care of them (im 11 btw) but not all do. I do agree partly as not all kids should be aloud to have pets like Guinea pigs.

You are 100% right. Kids need parents to properly care for any animal. Who pays for the vet when they get sick? The parents, of course. If they won’t, then the animal suffers.

This is the thing, I’m 11 and I have 2 Guinea pigs in an 8 foot cage. Next week I’m moving them into a 18 foot cage and getting 2 more Guinea pigs sometime around Christmas. I take great care of them and it shows that just because you are young doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get pets. But in a part of one of your videos you said that you shouldn’t get a pet like Guinea pigs if you can’t afford them, I just wanted to say I completely agree and understand, and it’s true and a lot of people don’t understand how much space a Guinea pig Truly needs. Just one Guinea pig (btw please get more then one Guinea pig if you don’t already have one) needs up to 4 feet of space and without that space they can get stressed out causing them to panic and possibly die. A lot of parents get only one Guinea pig and puts it in a 3 foot cage and let’s their Unresponsible children play with it, without realizing they are in a way traumatizing and partly abusing it. And when ever I see that I try to tell them that it’s not okay and atleast get a bigger cage for it. But sometimes people just don’t understand and don’t listen to you, you can’t force people you can only give advice or encourage. I also am not hating on you or anything not saying your forcing because I know these people send the photos in free willingly and ask for advice. But one thing I just NEVER get is when someone gets a Guinea pig and keeps it in a small space like 2-3 feet of space then says “I’m going to make it bigger in the future” Don’t get Guinea pigs if your gonna keep them in a space that small. Get them when you have that bigger cage or at least make that VERYYY temporary like within two days. Btw no hate on your channel or anyone or anything just saying my opinion like your saying yours. I personally approve of your cage and think your a pretty good Guinea pig owner. ❤I just don’t agree with everything you say. Like “all kids shouldn’t have pets” not being rude just saying my opinion. Anyways that’s it.

Hey, my name is Ellie and I'm 13. I have two female piggies, and I TOTALLY understand what you're saying about kids getting animals, especially ones that are (surprisingly) higher maintenance then you would think that they are. I have two female piggies, Chocolate Chip and Truffles, and they live in a 2x5 C&C cage. I have a pet sitting business and that usually pays for everything and I mean everything that I have to provide for my piggies, with only a little help from my parents.
I feel like kids shouldn't get guinea pigs (or any other animal, for that matter) if the parents or kids aren't able or willing to pay for everything, and I agree with you 100 percent.
So kids, get a pet sitting business! That'll pay for your guinea pig things!

Hay for bedding is so bad after 12-24 hours it starts to mold and that is horrible for there respiratory system . They need a kiln dried pine or aspen bedding so it will wick the moisture down so they aren’t sitting on wet molded hay . I guarantee that pig has fungal feet or respiratory issues.
Btw love your hair ! And sorry for your loss !
You don’t owe anything to anyone but yourself if your finding yourself in a rut then do what you need to do to care for YOU . You owe no explanation to anyone . Mental health is something so overlooked and you are your best advocate! Take care and loved the video !

I DEFINITELY agree with your points on how irresponsible parents can be by letting their kids get Guinea pigs in awful cages. Me being 13 I have two Guinea pigs in a 2x5 c and c grid cage because luckily my mom had Guinea pigs growing up so she knows about their necessities and I think it really just depends on how mature the kid is but at the same time I think you should be 13+ to get a Guinea pig in the first place even I feel like I might be a little young but I completely understand that kids at the end of the day should do their research and probably save up to get one when then turn a responsible age.

I agree children shouldn’t have animals by themselves, and they should be the adults responsibility to make sure the animal is getting proper care.

I totally agree with your statement about how guinea pigs should not go to kids. As an 11 year old who own four small animals, and responsible parents who make me do research for anything I want. My two guinea pigs have 11.8 square feet, and my hamsters each have 950 square inches. They all live in my room! ( it's pretty much a zoo at this point.) Anyway love your videos, and all the best to you and your piggys!

All the kids commenting to defend themselves 😭😂
There is literally no way a whole child can financially support 2 animals unless the parents able to help. Only very specific circumstances after previous bonding attempts are appropriate to only have one pig, no excuse. I had pigs at 17 and didn't know what I was doing. They're advertised as beginner pets, so I thought I was ready for that responsibility. I wasnt. I'm 25 now, and know how to properly care for them. It takes time and experience, as well as MONEY to afford pigs. To properly care for my 4 girls, I pay around 150-200 a month, not counting vet emergencies--WHICH DO HAPPEN, AND CAN BE VERY EXPENSIVE. I'm a whole adult, and even then family still helps me out when I can't completely afford an emergency. Children should NOT be the sole carer for any animal, period. They can absolutely have pigs in their room and even be the primary person to take care of them if responsible enough, but it's ultimately up to the parents to be able to afford regular care and emergencies. No child under 15 is making the kind of money to be able to afford animals. Just because they're rodents doesn't mean they're "beginner pets". My pigs are 10 times harder to care for than my cat and dog. Pet stores need to educate themselves more, because there's way too many kids getting animals and abusing/neglecting them without even realizing it.

Hi, I have a question. I am preparing for a guinea pig and already have the C&C cage for him but I’m wondering if it’s safe to have cardboard as the bottom layer to cover the wire (under fleece and another absorbent layer) until I can get the layer that you use from Home Depot? I can’t remember the name but I’m going to your other video. Lol We live in a very small town so getting to Home Depot will take a few weeks. I have an unlimited amount of cardboard so it would be replaced often.

my parents got me my first guinea pigs at 7 years old, i absolutely agree that children should not own animals UNLESS the parents are helping every step of the way and doing it the right way! that's what my parents did until i was 15. I recently just lost my old lady who was 7 and a half years old. she lived in a pet store cage because she was alone and i made sure she had so much time to rome around on the floor (everyday for 3-4 hours) which is the only reason i ever kept the cage. i just got two new little lady's and im currently in the process of getting a 2x5 cc set up! even if you think you don't have room (i live in a small apartment) there is always room just get creative!
