Motto taken from SAS? Pfft. sAs who? The SAS was formed in 1941. The motto of the Serbian army and the SAJ was taken from the legendary speach of Serbian general Živojin Mišić (1855-1921). He gave the speach in the wake of the famous battle of Kolubara in WW1 (1914) in which he led his army to an amazing victory against a much larger enemy. Thus Serbia achieved one of the first victories of the allied powers against the common enemy. Mišić (pronounced Mishich) was a brilliant military strategist, who participated in 6 wars in the span of 40 years. Serbs have a long and strong military tradition. I won't bother you with the previous thousand years or so of warfare, but general Mišić and Serbia's military achievements in ww1 are worth googling, especially since Mišić's strategy is taught at foreign military academies, apparently including the US.

As a part of Croatia's Special Operations Battalion, I had a pleasure to work with our serbian counterparts together with US MARINES and some other countries in the region. They are as tough as we are, eager to protect innocents and what is theirs, they show respect where respect is due and they are willing to die for their comrades. As a soldier those are things that you respect the most. Even though our countries have violent history we had no issues working together and learning from each other, I can proudly say that we (both serbs and croats) were able to perform at the same level as US marines. Lack of battle experience was evident (I hope it stays like that, if you know what I mean). In scenarios where we had limited equipment we even outperformed the marines but we are all years behind their leadership skills and their chest to chest combat is a lot better, it is more efficient and it works. We had hard time adjusting to introduction of MRAP and urban patrolling, since both of our SO units are more specialised in covert operations and clandestine operations.

My dad was in the unit that is the predecessor of SAJ - which was "Bataljon za Specijalna Dejstva" (Batallion for Special Actions). They were a part of Yugoslav federal police and were an elite unit assembled of the best men from all Yugoslav republics - they were a few dozen very, very well trained men. They used to train every day and were on alert 24/7. Every new model of an airplane that would land in Yugoslavia - they would make night time detailed trainings and familiarization of layouts and study the planes, make all night long exercises in it while it spent time at the airport. They would usually take the plane at some corner of the airfield to move from prying eyes. After the breakup of Yugoslavia, SAJ replaced them in their base 13. maj (13th of May), at the outskirts of Belgrade. I loved spending time with him in the base while he was training, they let me go into the carpool garage, I loved sitting on BMW Motorcycles they had, the G-Wagons (Branded as PUCH), walking around APCs, playing with the piano they had in the gymnasium. They had the best equipment you can get from both west and the east (mostly west), they had bomb defusing robots back in the 80s, Armored Range Rover V8 (Not Land Rover like regular police/army) with double rear axles for explosive ordinances transport (can be seen at the parade, link at the end), top notch stuff and they very well knew how to use it. My dad was the first to test the new stuff for dropping from helicopters as the winch system was made on site by base mechanics per their preference. I have many pictures of my dad and his team, I fondly remember his dark blue service VW Jetta he drove home sometimes, the awesome happy, full of life guys, how they socialized - practically grew up in a home with uniformed police as common guests. They were the only unit in the country to have camouflage, non single color uniforms (pattern similar to "Greek lizard" made just for them) and in risky areas (eg. Kosovo), they even had a bounty on them because they were so effective and distinctive so they did not wear those uniforms unless on a mission. Since it was a federal unit, once the country started falling apart first they were in charge of surveying the ceasefires, then as things went worse a large part of them eventually went to their own (newly independent) countries, some of them perished in the 90s wars, but the ones that survived and stayed in Serbia and in force are high ranking officers, mostly retired by now. My dad stayed loyal to Serbia despite not really being Serbian, but left the force mid 90s, working for the state. My dad is still fit, exercises every day, plays some basketball with the kids from the neighborhood even at age close to 60. That unit (along with my dad in one of the Pinzgauers) can be seen at the military parade in Belgrade in 1985, here: th-cam.com/video/I0QPRiyOSl0/w-d-xo.html

You just reminded me of the time when here we all were Special Anti-Terror Unit. In 1983 Unique event that shock the World took place in front of Turkish embassy in Belgrade. Two members of Armenian gunman in a middle of a day in busy Epicenter of Belgrade opened fire with small firearms at the ambassador's car, he and his chauffeur were wounded, and later passed away. The two assailants then attempted to run away from the scene, but they did not count that passers by will start to chase them. Ordinary unarmed civilians run after them, manage to caught one, struggle, but he wounded one women and man who tried to prevent him escape. Second attacker was chased by three people some 400m, then two security agents in the area join and shots were exchanged. The gunmen wounded one of the agents, and killed young student who run after them. I live 100meters from embassy, every day pass that corner at least twice, and In that time spend a lot of time with my friends at a corner shop - if attack happened later in afternoon we would all also run UNARMED after attackers (hence Special Unit) as we were brought up in belief that it would be our civil duty (plus in secondary schools we had obligatory military training with M48...) That was then - now, no one would bother. People no longer give a toss - in a way understandable considering what horror we all went through in the last 30 years. Regards from Belgrade.

Sure, 50% of our male population perished in WWI, and our army rolled over in WWII even before Germans came. Sure we've got some stories from the battle of Cer, as well as other battles in WWII, but Yugoslav army was just packed with people and that's it. Followed the same strategy as USSR - overwhelm with numbers up until our army was abolished and turned professional. Now we have less manpower, but are better equipped, modernized and specialized with professional military which is smaller, but much more effective. Russia still follows the same massive onslaught strategy and they broke their teeth in Ukraine where small specialized Ukrainan units wipe the floor with the "2nd biggest world power" that got bogged down with poor equippment and outdated tactics.
SAJ is a great unit and probably closest you can see a lot of to the Special Forces as the Military Special Forces are rarely filmed, however they do some public exercises. You can look up "72. We shot down B2A Spirit of Missoury also. He crashed in Croatia. Just few km away from Serbian border. First who arrived on crash scene were Croatish firefighters who described they saw a huge black object in fire with no vertical surfaces. Then NATO soldiers took control of everything on that area and took out parts and even soil for next 3 months in seald trucks. On that place left huge hole in ground where now is a small lake. It was a huge hit for US and after some time they staged crash of Spirith of Kansas. They used one of two non-operational B2A test model for that crash and after that, they just changed the name from Spirit of Kansas in Spirit of Missoury.
One correction, battle of Kolubara was FIRST allied victory in WWI , not one of first. If we count large scale battle , not some small scrimmishies.

From what I know the Serb military have a good relationship with the Green Berets because the foundation of the Berets and the skillsets, tactics, guerilla warfare originated from a Serbian officer of the Royal Yugoslav Army (Chetniks) after immigrating to the US because the Communists took power in Yugoslavia.

The unit you trained with in Serbia is basic infantry, part of any of their 4 army brigades
Corectly :)
@@kaleidoskopzivota if I’m not mistaken that soldier is firing a Zastava M21 with one hand
It is about the mental strength of a soldier. Never give up is known thru centuries.
I'm in the Balkans 3 or 4 times a year. One my best mates is in the Croatian Navy, I've other mates in Belgrade in Serbia and Gostivar Macedonia. The thing about the Balkan countries is their training is based on modern concepts, small force intervention etc and a wealth of experience from a hard fought Civil War in their fairly resent past. For example if they send a unit of for training abroad when they get back they kinda apply the "would that have worked going street to street in Split in the 90's?" like a reality lens. Serbia is a great skiing destination. Kopaonik is sunning place to ski as is Mavrovo just over the border.
True but none of the ex yugo countries have an army or special forces like Serbia.
@@dekitesla9915 yeah right ..why didn't you win the war aginst us if you're so fierce and good ? Stop talkin shit..our special forces are "other dimension" for you!

Pozdrav.

Thank you, brother, for saying everything nicely about our Serbia. 🇺🇲🇷🇸💪

Thanks for the video, glad that there are Americans that respect Serbs like you.
If you are interested, there were two Serbian war movies: Ратне приче са Кошара (War stories from Koshare), and Ратне приче са Паштрика (War stories from Pastrik). These movies are about war between Yugoslavia and UÇK (Kosovo's liberal army or KLA), they are based on the true events fo the war and they have english subtitles and also serbian subtitles. They are apsolutely amazing and I'm recommending you to watch them.
There is also a russo-serbian movie "Balkanska međa", again Yugoslavs and Russians against UÇK. It is also a great movie, and also very sad.
I recommend you to watch them, trust me, you won't regret it. Greetings from Serbia!🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸

Специјална Антитерористичка Јединица(САЈ)
Specialized Antiterroristic Unit
That was a cool video! It was fun to see your little boy make a quest appearance again! Nice break from the more serious stuff!
Thanks for covering SAJ. The most badass anti terror unit on balkan ;)
Na svetu, ne samo balkanu ;)
For some people we are "bad"Serbia has never attacked, it has always only defended itself, and those countries that spread hatred because they lost in the war and spread that hatred to Americans or everyone who doesn't even know why they hate or dislike Serbia. For all those who are not like others, great respect!
This talk is the essence of "bad" people call you out for. Trying to make excuses for something that according to you isnt even there but apperently it is
As a Serb i could tell you that for centuries we always have good trained and disciplined military but the 90s putt the tint mark over something thats known in the world as knighthood and honor and respect among each other.
"CAJ" is written in cyrillic writing wich is regular alphabet in Serbia. "CAJ" means Specia anti-terrorisam Unit.
Love to my christian brothers in serbia from germany, i know that we had a bad history in ww1, ww2 and in the bosnian war but u hope that has changed 🇩🇪❤️🇷🇸
And your support to terrorists in Kosovo, what can be chaged?
I was watching this and like half-way though the video I was like, why am I even reading the subtitles, I am Serbian?! :D :D :D ....Nice video dude! Keep it up and greetings from Serbia!
Thank you man. Its very awesome video.
Thanks for recognizing SAJ mad Respect I've been in SAJ for almost 10 years now Thanks Brother for this video we are not recognized in the world so much even tho i been sent to Iraq and fighting besides Marines 2 times in my life You Sir are great Mad Respect Semper Fi 💪
Serbian Special forces (Army):
72nd Brigade for Special operations
Battalion "Grifoni"
Battalion "Sokolovi
Police:
Special Anti-terrorist Unit (SAJ)
Gendarmery (zandarmerija) only this unit is stronger than some military ones because it has 8000 members who are professionally trained.
Cobras (Kobre)
Counter-terrorist unit (PTJ)
U can make video about Serbian Gendarmery they look very nice with big number cool vehicles.Btw Very nice video.
Unfortunately the PTJ doesn't exist anymore. They were merged with SAJ like 4 or 5 years ago.
Kobre are military unit. Special formation of military police. Their task is protection and prevention. They serve as general stuff and supreme command shield and protection. They also protect objects and persons of interest if needed. They protect President and Prime Minister also.
Ti decko nemas veze sa životom sta pises
You need to understand this is a promotional video made for the wider public so it’s going to be hypy and cringy with lots of dramatic music. :) They are quite a solid and respectable unit among the AT units around the world I think.

There is a ju jutsu sports club inside SAJ. They are competing in Serbian national championships. My son is also ju jutsu figter and he has been inside their camp during one of tournaments they have organised.🏅🇷🇸
So to answer the snow camo stuff. Up to the mediterranean almost you will see the use of snow camo cause there are mountainous regions like the Alps and the mountain regions in the Balkans. And the Ski-Doo is like the quintessential snowmobile lol. Like 80% of them are probably ski-doo. Good guess on the geography tho, I remember it a little more south haha.
haha thanks for the info dude

This is police Special Antiterrorist Unit (SAJ - is short in Serbian), it is not military one. But we have some special military units too...
Serbs do have huge history in combat, I am not suprised. First country in Europe that faced Ottomans and killed their Sultan.
Came as recomended video... Nice to see good reaction to our nation special forces :)
BTW those soldiers you were reffering at beginig were normal troopers...
And CAJ, is basically SAJ in cyrilic, or Special (Specijalna) Anti-Terorist (Antiteroristicka) Unit (Jedinica) ;)
You should check some other videos of our units :D
Keep it up...
Check out THE unit "Kobre".
Love from India
That Navy Seal sneaking around with a can of juice is the highlights of the video, cute little guy :-)
Don't forget her faithful K9 😁
Thanks for a great video.
as the badge says, its a police unit. if you look for military special units check out the "72nd brigade for special operations" or the 63rd parachute brigade (padobranska brigada).
SAJ is police unit, not military, specilal military units in Serbia is Sokolovi(Hawks),63 parachute brigade and Kobre (Cobras)...
Record more about serbia :) u are good guy 🇷🇸
Nice video, Motto from that unit and army is from the first world war, by General Zivojin Misic

@@CombatArmsChannelFYI USA & Serbia used to be close allies during both world wars esp. WW2 when 500 American pilots shot down over enemy territory were rescued by Gen. Draza Mihailovic & Chetniks!!! KOSOVO IS SERBIA!!!
We had one cool exercise about 2-3 days ago named "Odgovor 2021" or in English it means "Answer 2021" it there were included SAJ and GRIFONI teams and there were lots of vehicles
Much respect for you for beung respectful to serbia even we have some bad history with us.Love your videos bro❤️
Great video, thanks for every good and honest word you said in this video and also as people are saying down in comments, "not trashing Serbia" for the first time, we dont really hate nobody, respect everybody, but dont let nobody disrespect our country and our people, big love, mad love, salute from Serbia!
A quick lesson. Modern Serbian army is just a shell of its former glory. For most of the modern history fo Serbia our army has been our pride and power. We where able to fight off much bigger foes we attacked our country. Most of the soliders where peasants who fought to protect their homes or guerrilla fighters who refused to surrender. Our commanders where some of the most talented people. If you would like to see some of the bravest moments in modern Serbian history google Battle for Kosare.
Yeah i just dont see this being a reality specially as a modern empire?? You guys played all kinds of games and fought all kinds of wars as far as middle east. Everyone knew it would come to this. That you would eventually go and start acting innocent. Which is fine if you dont plan on extending any conflict to present time. But you wont. You got tons of new weapons because you are going to have to get even smaller. Vojvodina republika srpska are not looking like a permanent stay anymore. It looks like you will really be decreased to only serbs. Then it would only be a millikn or 2.of you. Then we would have 2 slavic entities left in the balkans you and slovenes. In fact 1 because after turkey got done with you all reseblence of slavic serbs are behing croatias borders and to the west. There is no serbs living in serbia. Zero. All you dont even know what you belive in half of the time
Sure, 50% of our male population perished in WWI, and our army rolled over in WWII even before Germans came.
SAJ is police unit very similar to SWAT which in case of war can be used as a military unit
🇷🇸👊
Cool reaction video! Ski-Doo is just a brand of snow mobile, the water version is called Sea-Doo 🤗
Thank you man for this video. I have all respect for you.
I have no idea why yt recommended this to me😂😂 but i like it, liked hearing your opinions!
SAJ is a great unit and probably closest you can see a lot of to the Special Forces as the Military Special Forces are rarely filmed, however they do some public exercises. You can look up "72. Brigada" for a military special force unit. You can also look for Serbian Cobras but footage of them is very very rare.
Thw kiddo walking in is just wholesome
Was an operative in Srbija over 20 years ago, they're a fine resolute people. My gf of many years is from Belgrade.
Man thank you for making this video.
