That ABS is throwing a fail code. When they blink back and forth like that its an error with the ABS. They should blink together when you first start it and both cut off when you go about 5MPH. I own this bike and love it!!

Was just gonna say that - is it the same as the old r1100's where it'll give you nasty errors if the battery is failing/low and the ABS is throwing the 'help' flag?

This was my very first motorcycle and I bought it brand new, off the showroom floor back in 2001. I put about 15k miles on it and loved it BUT there are some really frustrating things about this bike.
This bike does have an option for a windscreen because I bought one and it really does help cut down the force of the wind on your body and makes for a better riding experience.
    1) It doesn't have a fuel gauge. ONLY a low fuel light so you really have to watch your mileage.
    2) It doesn't have any sort of clock. Yes you can add one but not having even a basic clock can be super annoying on long rides.
    3) This bike HATES slow, controlled, tight turns. It would regularly "dump me" when navigating slowly. What I mean by that is the bike will be handling just fine and then all of a sudden, just practically fall over and if your leg isn't down, it WILL fall over. It's so odd and random when it happens and it can be VERY dangerous if your foot happens to be on some oil patch or water and it slips, you will drop the bike. I've never had this issue once on my Harley....nothing even close and I tried to recreate it to see if it was something I was doing. It's not, there's something about this bike that just likes to dump you at slow speeds.
    4) The riding position - with the horizontally opposed engine, if you have long legs, this will be a problem. I solved it by getting engine covers, then a set of padded riding boots with padding doing 1/2 way up my calf. That allows me to stretch my legs out over the engine tops while at cruising speed but it's really awkward to get into that position and I don't have any way to apply brakes or shift so its somewhat dangerous. So you better like the 1 riding position because there's not a lot of room to maneuver.
    5) It's WAY under powered for a 1200 cc motorcycle. It feels pretty powerful when you go from like a 500 or 600 cc bike like an adventure or standard. But if you're coming from a Harley, this thing will feel sluggish and slow, PAINFULLY slow and it's top speed is only 90 MPH. Now some say that's plenty fast enough and I'm not going to disagree but when you're on the Highway and there's a semi truck right on your butt, you want the power and speed to get out of their way.
    6) Maintenance - there are no bottom frame rails so getting this thing off the ground is challenging unless you have a lift.
Anyways - LOVE the look of this bike and I got all kinds of comments when I rode it. LOTS of people find it interesting and want to talk more about it so that's kinda fun....unless you don't like meeting new people.
Hard to believe it's over 20 years old now. I still have mine but it hasn't run in a LONG time. Hearing these are very desirable bikes I might patch her up and sell her. My bike color is the same as the James Bond bike. Ivory paint with blue leather seats and saddle bags.

Controls are maybe "like Harley" as you say, but I know these BMW controls since 1975

I've watched your review a few times and have to agree, it's not about the power. I still have mine from 1998, can't part with it.

Very handy in the winter actually - just curl your toes up a mite and they're toasty. In summer, there's plenty of air flow to keep them from getting too roasted.

It's a timing thing - the R motors notoriously shake if they're not absolutely precisely in sequence at idle. I've had mine adjusted several times and while it got better it still vibrates at low idle.
