I have no idea of how many hours of gameplay I've seen, but it's quite a lot at this point. I have learned so much from looking at your videos, without them even being tutorials. That would be my best advice to a new player really, to look up a famous youtuber playing the game. So I wanted to say thank you to you, because I just started playing and it's going really well!
Gnusie Shaboozie Because eu4 tutorials are funny "Okay I will just tell you about this and then we will start." "To tell you about this you most understand this and for you to understand that we will have to do this" "Oh and before we start you have to do this, and that, and of course this." And suddenly 50 min has passed, it is still the 11 of November and filthy is more confused then when they started.
Because there is always something new to learn. Like, I'm more of the understanding type, rather than getting into mechanic's details, so hearing Arumba go into those details can sometimes reveal new things. Like the core creation time in some episode, I never cared for it, but it's nice to know why it takes so much time.
To me: 100% luck with the game deciding to do crazy shit when I'm on ironman...Hey you like XYZ nation well they're doing crazy shit now and everyone that hates you will unite (seriously a fucking Russia+Commonwealth Alliance when russia loves you and the commonwealth hates you?) Seriously how often do you see Castile refusing the Iberian wedding an OPM getting the Burgundian inheritance and Poland saying fuck the Jaglions? Because that happens every damn time unless I need it to happen Also amazing or shit rulers

Best series to get into EU4 at the moment! Not only is it almost up to date but also having someone who has no clue about the game is absolutely the best way to watch you explain the game. Many of the questions asked, are questions I had myself :)
Love the tutorial. It goes at a clear, relaxing pace. Maybe a tip: Let the viewer know what expansions are required (to literally follow every step taken in the video) ^^
I personally never played EU4, but I love your channel arumba. I thought about buying eu4 but was a little daunted by the prospects of all the mechanical complexity, and now you have a tutorial series.
This is shaping up to the best tutorial series I have watched on EUIV - I love the idea of paradox games but have yet been unable to get into them fully as there is so much to understand. If this is successful, I would love to see similar for CKII, HOI4 and Stellaris. Looking forward to episode 2.
People said that you weren't good? you conquered the world for crying out loud. Very few people are able to top that. I can barely form Germany in ironman without restarting 3 times.
Papa Francesco I know right. Fair enough, Arumba isn't the best eu4 player ever, probably not even the best one that makes videos, but he is still better then most people playing it, atleast top 5%.
Sir Flanelshirt well since he makes videos he is probably getting compared to DDRjake, and if someone is getting compared to jake they look like shit, unless they are florryworry, he comes semi-close
People want to think they are better than someone. Arumba's achievements speak for themselves. There are probably better players, but not many. It's like that for any streamer. I watch a lot of Kripparian for Hearthstone, too, and people are always complaining that they think this play or that play was bad and they are sure they are right and they are better at the game. Then Blizzard releases actual stats and shows Kripparian is the 3rd best Arena player in NA overall. Generally, people who are sure they still have a lot to learn about a game are pretty good, and people who are sure they know everything suck. There are exceptions, but that's a good general rule.
The main difference between Arumba and the most of us is that he thinks EVERY step. He is always using his calculator to make sure he has the advantage. I have 1000 hours in this game and I dont think he is better than me, he just play more "serious" when the most just think "fuck it, I got this". (Sorry for my english).
Fran Martínez Gálvez It's not necessarily more "serious" his way. I find sometimes he does overanalyze, agonizing over the thousandths to make an ultimately insignificant decision while letting that inner debate blind him to something else more significant that happens elsewhere. It's a unique problem; as you say, MOST players probably suffer from the opposite malady, that of underanalyzing and making a poor decision because they don't want to get into the details. Ultimately, it's more of a playstyle than effectiveness difference. If you really enjoy the numbers and math and all just by itself, you play Arumba's way, because you can spend thirty minutes with the game paused thinking over a single decision and calling that fun.
The reason clicking merchants brings you to your capital is because they're unassigned. Clicking the icon while they're assigned will cycle through the location for each merchant so you can easily tell where each one is in the event you've forgotten.
I have tried to play this so many times and I've gotten confused with how complex it is, and that's coming from someone who play ck2 very often! I look to watching and learning with filthy robot!
Wonderful I've been wanting this for SO long ! I have been playing other games, just bought all the DLC's on sale and here is a tutorial so I can update my knowledge of the game : perfect :D
Great video and series. I have tried to play this game and found it difficult with so many options. These videos help considerably. Like the interactions between seasoned and newcomer to EU4.
Love the content with Filthy and this series is especially interesting to me as someone who has thousands of hours in CK1 and 2 and hundreds of hours in vicky 1 and 2 but who has bounced off EU4 every attempt. I feel like at some point in this game there will be a moment of clarity for Filthy when the broader picture of what is going on in EU4 comes into focus and he'll catch the grand strategy bug. Nothing against Civilization but a mind like his is wasted on such a relatively simple game that obfuscates so much information. Hopefully when this series runs it course we see a Cyborg Team Savoy next (like Tac team but with one human and one robot).
Thank you! Got through 10 episodes and loved you telling me how to play. But dude you're teaching keeps asking too many questions, especially about the numbers and boats, it got annoying, but you handled it properly... it was slowing things up for a couple episodes...
I'm also rather new to EU4 after many years of Civilization (back to Civ 1), and I'm excited about this series especially since I have enjoyed Arumba's other EU4 videos. I would also recommend quill18's tutorial videos (search for "quill18 eu4 tutorial") for new players who might want a more focused introduction that is complete right now. It is only 8 videos: 7 main tutorial videos and an additional one focusing on the Holy Roman Empire. It covers mostly the same topics as the game tutorial, but with much better explanations.
Arumba, you can actually select trade nodes (for both protect and privateer) on the map after selecting the mission. Sometimes that's easier. Obviously not in that circumstance (and you probably knew that anyways).
I have 500 hours in this game and I still suck, so I guess ill just watch this to learn a couple things! PS. You are the reason I got this game in the first place :D
I've played 194 hours of this game, to some people that would be loads, but I genuinely believe that even with that many hours, I am still 'new' at this game.
who ever starts with this tutorial: Take some lines of note to describe what topics are coverd. then you will have a great guide to look up topics. if you want to be awesome, share it. I watched the series, and i should have done it totally by myself.
Yes! Thanks Arumba! Although I have been playing for awhile now and have been watching your videos I was still hoping that you would make an updated tutorial playlist. 'Dis gonna be good!
To cut some corners for new players. Find out what is possible for your nation, or within your power to achieve. Use that power efficiently to gain more of it. Snowball to victory and feed your sense of self importance. Pause button is your friend. Look at the notification settings sooner rather than later!! it'll save you a headache.
Coming from someone who has played about1500 hours, the average game takes around 35 hours while playing speed 3-4.for most of the game (with lots of pausing during big wars)
I can blast through a game in less than 10 hours. I do play semi tall in those though and I don't normally expand out of a single region in less colonizing. The point stands though that it doesn't take 100s of hours to get through a game
Total noob to EU4 so I'm glad I stumbled across your channel! Also I'm waiting for civ 6 to get cheaper, so I'm looking forward to checking out those videos as well :)
Really want to learn how to play EU4, so I looked up a tutorial. Found this playlist for beginners with 136 videos. Holy crap. Does it really take 136 videos to teach someone to play this game? That's really daunting.
I thought I would never be able to understand this game. Just watching Arumba's constant lets plays have given me a basic understanding... yet I still don't understand squat
Actually there is a leap year in 1600, just not 1500, 1700 or 1800. Leap year every 4 years, unless the year ends in -00. There is a leap year if the year is divisible by 400, however.
Arumba, the province Ayrshire is pronounced Air-shire. A wee bit of local knowledge for you. This is a great video, enjoying your videos with Filthy Robot.
I feel like that is my major problem with EU4. I tend to drop the game for a few months at a time (because whenever I get invested in the game the next big patch breaks save files) and the game just keeps changing more and more. I can't get a firm grip on the game's mechanics until they decide to stop releasing new content

I've played 1300 hours of this game. Why on earth am I hyped for a tutorial series? This does not make sense.
I've played 300 hours and I feel exactly the same, except I hope I'll learn a lot \\('_' )//
Gnusie Shaboozie Because eu4 tutorials are funny
"Okay I will just tell you about this and then we will start."
"To tell you about this you most understand this and for you to understand that we will have to do this"
"Oh and before we start you have to do this, and that, and of course this."
And suddenly 50 min has passed, it is still the 11 of November and filthy is more confused then when they started.
I am a very good bad boy.
Maybe so you can complain about some point Arumba makes to prove you're smarter? That seems to happen a lot in his comments.
Because there is always something new to learn. Like, I'm more of the understanding type, rather than getting into mechanic's details, so hearing Arumba go into those details can sometimes reveal new things. Like the core creation time in some episode, I never cared for it, but it's nice to know why it takes so much time.
so basically EU4 is:
10% luck
20% skill
15% concentrated power of will
5% pleasure
50% pain
and a 100% reasons to hate France
Don't forget the Ottomans
Nope only France
that song lol have not heared it in years
FORT MINOR WITH SHINODA YEAH
To me:
100% luck with the game deciding to do crazy shit when I'm on ironman...Hey you like XYZ nation well they're doing crazy shit now and everyone that hates you will unite (seriously a fucking Russia+Commonwealth Alliance when russia loves you and the commonwealth hates you?)

Also amazing or shit rulers
who els has 1000+ hours in this game and still watches this because he is interested to see how arumba will explain everything?
1600 hours. Not watching for the tutorial but for Filthy's input, like the clicking on merchant thing. I'd never even consider something like that.
2.5k game time in eu4
Keizer Van Enerc 1300 hours, best game was as Byzantines. curious to see what I missed
Keizer Van Enerc I had a friend who recently started playing and I want to see how he explains it :L but yeah I’m at 1400 hours.
Did Arumba say to someone to NOT COMPLAIN????
This is gonna be interesting
A bit hypocritical, right? ;)
Caio Prado kmkp
Robin Andersson kp.

After countless hours of civ6, he lost his touch with EU IV xD
Sveinfyr this
NathanOnepiece When was the last time you guys lost to the same rebels 4 times in a row? xD
+Sveinfyr never, because I'm the scrub that's never in economic trouble, so I don't lower maintenance. :D
Sveinfyr what do you mean ?
Sveinfyr what do you mean ?
I have hundreds of hours in EU4 ... still I'm watching this ... why you ask? I have no idea, but it's Arumba so ... well ... don't judge me :D
Yep. I think they work well together so that in itself is good entertainment.
HAHAHAHAHAHA. Hundreds. You'll still watch this when you have thousands of hours. :D
About 90% of everything I know about EuIV came from watching TH-cam videos. I guess this will add to it.
I am so glad your making this series. You're the reason I am still playing ck2.
Cezar Ayala you're*
This video series? So very, very necessary. This game's learning curve is so steep it's basically a cliff.
Best series to get into EU4 at the moment! Not only is it almost up to date but also having someone who has no clue about the game is absolutely the best way to watch you explain the game. Many of the questions asked, are questions I had myself :)
I just got eu4 during the halloween sale so this tutorial series couldn't have started at a better time.
Oliver Wolf Same
Oh man, this is gonna be a fun series to watch.
Omg I love this series, you learn so much by watching someone teach someone else, Filthy asks questions I would never even think off.
Great series, must watch for everyone who plays EU4, not just new players.
Arumba explains everything very well and Filthy asks the right questions.
Omg. So stoked for this!! 200+ episodes please. Detail, detail. Discuss ad debate everything please!
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS SERIES ARUMBA. So appreciative man.
Arumba is weirdly joyful in this. wow
I have been hoping that you would do this for the longest time.
Love the tutorial. It goes at a clear, relaxing pace. Maybe a tip: Let the viewer know what expansions are required (to literally follow every step taken in the video) ^^
I bought this game years ago but never played it more than 1 hour. Thanks for this.
This series is great. Really looking forward to it. Got humble 1,365h on EU IV but feel that i will enjoy this series immensely.
you haven't even picked advisors!! No chance you will unpause next episode
I say in probably i episode 4 or 5 they will unpause
+Nyt Mare Nice Dalek.
Daniel Body I made it myself... its actually a Tiramisu
Nyt Mare Looks really cool!
omg. Tiramisu is the love of my life...
It would be really awesome if you could do an updated beginners guide to CK2. :) So much has changed since your 2014 version.
I personally never played EU4, but I love your channel arumba. I thought about buying eu4 but was a little daunted by the prospects of all the mechanical complexity, and now you have a tutorial series.
Fantastic video. I've got close to 1000 hours in EU4 but its great to have someone explain it to new players, based on the current patch.
Thank you Arumba my friend who recently got Eu4 is a big noob so you making a series of this will help him alot
Hey Arumba, I learnt so much about the ins and outs of EUIV from your previous campaigns, I can't think of anyone better to do a tutorial series.
This is shaping up to the best tutorial series I have watched on EUIV - I love the idea of paradox games but have yet been unable to get into them fully as there is so much to understand. If this is successful, I would love to see similar for CKII, HOI4 and Stellaris. Looking forward to episode 2.
Michael Grayson yeah - I will check that out. Do you happen to know what patch/expansions he would have been using? Does he say in the video?
Michael Grayson Thanks anyway.
More EU4 multiplayer! And it's not even my birthday.
Congratulations.
People said that you weren't good? you conquered the world for crying out loud. Very few people are able to top that. I can barely form Germany in ironman without restarting 3 times.

Thank you so much
Yato Mc Shrineless ofc i will xD
I've logged 674 hours in this game, but im always hyped to see if i can learn something new about this game.
This is the episode I needed before spending 900 hours on this game XP
It's needed though. Good luck Arumba.
The reason clicking merchants brings you to your capital is because they're unassigned. Clicking the icon while they're assigned will cycle through the location for each merchant so you can easily tell where each one is in the event you've forgotten.
Catatomicx well shit, that's another useful feature that I only discovered 700 hours in
Yeah same thing goes for diplomats, colonists, and missionaries lol. I find these useful if I ever decide to disable one of them in the outliner
I think Arumba is a good learner, because he pretty much learned me how to become an ekspert at ck2.
I love you, Arumba. Now I may be able to get into the game!
if you're interested, you can also watch quill18 guide on the game, the only thing is that it is outdated
+João Marques Yeah, that was the problem. I like Quill's videos, though.
This really made me think about what a complex game EU4 is after all. When you've played over 1000 hours everything seems so obvious and simple.
Great tutorial very entertaining at the same time, lol I love the duo commentary and keeps it more interesting to watch. Thanks Arumba and FilthyRobot
Arumba you cant steel the Brits tea when its 1444. They don't know of the glorious substance yet.
I've been expecting this for a loooooong time. THANK YOU!
Do a updated CK2 tutorial, I know basics, but intricacies would be cool......
Love the content with Filthy and this series is especially interesting
to me as someone who has thousands of hours in CK1 and 2 and hundreds of
hours in vicky 1 and 2 but who has bounced off EU4 every attempt.

This is gonna take like 1000 episodes and I am sooo ready
watching this while i study :)
Thank you! Got through 10 episodes and loved you telling me how to play. But dude you're teaching keeps asking too many questions, especially about the numbers and boats, it got annoying, but you handled it properly... it was slowing things up for a couple episodes...

You will go to heaven for these videos. Thank you
I haven't played since 1.12. I needed this to come back.
Thank god for this. I love CK2, but the jump from that to EU4 has always terrified me.
Arumba, you can actually select trade nodes (for both protect and privateer) on the map after selecting the mission. Sometimes that's easier. Obviously not in that circumstance (and you probably knew that anyways).
I didn't, thanks for the tip!
Neither did I.
Late game I would imagine it would be useful.
I have 500 hours in this game and I still suck, so I guess ill just watch this to learn a couple things!
PS. You are the reason I got this game in the first place :D
Thank you guys for this series. :)
I've played 194 hours of this game, to some people that would be loads, but I genuinely believe that even with that many hours, I am still 'new' at this game.
I've been trying to get a friend into eu4 recently this will really help. Thanks
who ever starts with this tutorial: Take some lines of note to describe what topics are coverd. then you will have a great guide to look up topics.
if you want to be awesome, share it. I watched the series, and i should have done it totally by myself.
Great, still informative enough for a player who invested 200hours.
Look at the notification settings sooner rather than later!! it'll save you a headache.
oh good a 127 part, 2510 minute long tutorial.... definitely a paradox game.... thank god its arumba
Clicking on the merchant icon will take you to their location. Not placed merchants are considered to be in your capital.
Great episode and go as deep as you want The more the better. Keep it up
I was wondering if Arumba had made a tutorial series at some point.
136 episodes. Huh. Sounds about right.
SO pumped for this!
I have played 1000 hours of this game and I'm still busting out my notebook for this.
rj swonson me too. but im just here for the view. and that 1% thing that i might not know about eu4. lol
Wow just got eu4 and now this! Thanks Arumba for this hope this goes well for me too.
Great video, your content has been excellent recently!
Thanks for making this series!
You guys should have tried Byzantium. That's the advanced level tutorial nation in eu4.
I really hope Filthy is not gonna be discouraged by the things they have to brush over in the beginning to get to the essential stuff
Tac Team Scotland the sequel! YES
Coming from someone who has played about1500 hours, the average game takes around 35 hours while playing speed 3-4.for most of the game (with lots of pausing during big wars)

Tutorial starts at 4:44
Starts watching in Jan. 2017 well gotta catch up on 130 episodes.......
Arumba, whenever a major player in the dev streams are absent, you should take their place for the session
Really want to learn how to play EU4, so I looked up a tutorial. Found this playlist for beginners with 136 videos. Holy crap. Does it really take 136 videos to teach someone to play this game? That's really daunting.
I didn't realize there wasn't any leap years, never playing EU IV again
Thank you thank you thank you for this series!
finally a good tutorial!
I thought I would never be able to understand this game. Just watching Arumba's constant lets plays have given me a basic understanding... yet I still don't understand squat
What happens if Britain send its navy to the trade node you are privateering? War? Do you start losing ships or just fail to make any money?
really enjoying the series☺
Very useful, im just starting to learn and this helps a lot
So I got EU4 when it came out and played 1 game as colonial Castille...I haven't played it since then and boy does it look different
What dlc are you playing with?
Because in vanilla I don't think you can privateer...
Actually there is a leap year in 1600, just not 1500, 1700 or 1800.
Leap year every 4 years, unless the year ends in -00. There is a leap year if the year is divisible by 400, however.
Learned ck2, now time to learn this game
How do I get the exact settings arumba has?
Introductions end at 4:46
how do I get the same map modes as arumba
Hopefully this will produce a multiplayer game. Love those.
TAC Team Scotland 2: Electric Boogaloo!
MOAR!
Arumba, the province Ayrshire is pronounced Air-shire. A wee bit of local knowledge for you. This is a great video, enjoying your videos with Filthy Robot.
I feel like that is my major problem with EU4.
