I had a real 69 Beetle back in the very early 1980s. It was red. I am sure the memories of those times are better than how it really was!
I don't even remember what year mine was. It had the big tail lights on the back so it was later than 74, but by how much rust there was on it it couldn't have been much later than that. LOL We sure did some stupid stuff in that car. It went off-roading a few times, heck six if us even carried it the length of the practice field as a bet. LOL Oh yeah, good times.
@ my heater tubes were rusted and rust forming around where fender bolts entered the body. (Typical) I dropped a valve (common issue) and seized the engine. Sold it for $1000. It had new front end parts and brakes and new running boards.
Mine was a pile of junk, but it ran like a top and held the road like it was glued. It only had a stub for a gas pedal, no drivers running board, (That was left in the mall parking lot one night) The wipers worked when they wanted to (turned on or not) but dang I loved that car.
You are bringing memories. That was my first new car. Bought it while I was stationed in Key West.
Thank you. I can't wait to start it now that I opened it up. It really looks like a great kit.
My father-in-law was a Volkswagen mechanic! He loved buses and bugs!
My dad worked at Suburban Volkswagen when I was in high school. For extra money I would run cars from one dealership to another. I'd get paid 50 bucks to transfer a car. Man I would put those old GTIs through the ringer. Most of the cars I would drive would have between 9 and 100 miles on them. Once I got to take a Waggoneer from Y town to Lexington. to pick up a camper version. That time I made 100 and really had a fun time.
Just to let you know there are a couple European police car kit that call for the the bubble.
I figured as much. It just caught me as funny.
My county sheriff dept. has a VW Bug painted and decaled as a Sheriff car. They use it for parades. 😊👍
That is so cool.
VW bugs are so cool, everyone luv's them. The kit looks nicely detailed so I'm looking forward to your build.
Thank you. I'm looking forward to getting into this one too.
I was really enjoying this build until I realized the clear tree was missing. Back to the closet it went. Maybe someday I’ll be able to 3D print it. Best of luck
If you write Revell and tell them it's missing they will get it to you in less than two weeks. They are very VERY good about that.
Hey Mark. Imagine a 1:1 of that Bug with a " mid 90's " vintage twin turbo Porsche V6 that had been SERIOUSLY " worked over " for 1/4 mile drag racing! I don't have to. I used to race a guy that had that exact rig. I was driving a " repop " '69 Z28 body with a 427 BBC, bored and stroked to just over 500cid, full drive " roots " 871 blower, dual Holey 1250 4bl double pumpers, and about 2k hp NOS. The car made around 1200hp and 1500 ft lb torque with out the spray. The guy that drove the bug and I had effectively the same rt, within .003 sec of each other. From the stagging lights to just after the 60' lights, I couldn't touch him, but after that, it was me all the way. My fastest time in that repop Z was a 7.138!
Man I would have loved to see you guys run together. My gosh 7.138. . . Wow!!!!
@@grandpamarkshobbies Yeah. That car was dangerous fast!!! Such a blast to drive!!!!
Man I'll bet. LOL
Very nice looking kit. The amount of detail is amazing. Thanks for sharing.
I was super impressed with this one. Very nicely done.
Cool, another kit in my stash. Eager to watch your build video. I also have the Tamiya kit, and am looking forward to comparing the two kits. 😊
This one may take till summer to get started. I have a few things I need to catch up on first.
No hurry. 😊
Awesome unboxing Mark! Man, your videos are always so entertaining with the animations you put into each one.
Thank you very much. I sure do have a lot of fun with this hobby.
@@grandpamarkshobbies And you do an amazing job with both your videos and your builds!
You just made my whole day. Thank you very much.
New Yankee Workshop! 👍
LOL. I was wondering if anyone would catch that.
Hi Mark, this will be a great build of one ofbthe worlds most iconic vehicles, I had a 1963 Bettle ( almost the same colour as the box art) for about six years, my really only dislike about the car, was it was not good handling at high speed, it felt as if ig was almost floating on the road, looking forward to the build episodes, best regards from Australia, Les
I had a 70 something, and I know exactly what you are talking about. One thing about the bug was it would go through snow that a lot of other cars wouldn't. I loved that thing and would love to have another.
Thats going to be an awesome build, Mark.
Thank you. I think I'll have a lot of fun doing this.
Mark, Great review. I picked this kit up at hobby Lobby about a year ago on clearance for $5.99. Looking forward to building mine as a lowered VW with Porche power.
Wow that is a great price. I can't wait to see how you do it.
That is a nice kit. It's a little different than the Tamiya one I did, but just as detailed. Looking forward to that one! Great idea for the pin marks!
I've never seen the Tamiya one, but wow am I happy with this one. I've been doing the pin marks and the writing on the chassis like that for a while.
I didn't own this Beetle, but I rode in one in high school. Just subbed you. Love your content. Thanks!
Thank you very much for the subscription. It really helps the channel. I had a lot more fun than I should have in mine. LOL I know they weren't designed to go off road, but mine did a few times.
Nice unboxing my friend!
Thank you very much. I like your new emoji. Very cool.
Nice looking kit Mark. A friend of mine had two or three VW's back in the day.
Thanks. I think back in the day everyone knew someone with a bug. We would take them and pick them up and move them so they couldn't get out until someone else moved. LOL Mine got moved like that a few times too. It was all in fun.
What a cool kit, I never thought of one of those. But that looks awesome.
Yeah. It is a sleeper build for sure. Lots and lots of fun to do.
cool looking kit. thanks for sharing David
Thank you.
That’s going to be a cool build!
Thanks. It sure will look a lot better than the one I had for sure. LOL
The detail is amazing! I think I'll have to add a few to my collection.
I don't think you will be sorry.
Mark im so waiting to follow this build! Gotta do the WWs their not that Bad!! Se ya in the shop!!
I'll be jumping on this as soon as I can. It really looks like a very fun kit.
Nice kit 😎😁
I'm really happy with this one.
Nice kit, have fun!
Thank you.
Looks like a cool kit!
It sure does. Thanks for watching.
Nice Video
Thank you.
when removing those pin marks i use a curve blade (#10 blade) it prevents from scratching the plastic as you demonstrated.
That's a great idea. Thanks.
@ anytime.
thanks for showing the kit.i have the same kit.but it's still. on the back burner.for know.i painted mine a brown. paint.im working on 12 kits already.and their not finished yet either.
Mine will take me a while to get to. I just really wanted to make sure I had one before they are gone again.
I've got the same kit!
It's a good one.
Should be cool kit yes flower power with a hippie figure if u can find one lol.
I have a guy that will sit in the car. I think I will give him long hair and a beard and leave him in there.
VW bug nice.
I have 2 of these. I want to do one all done up and one like the one I bought. LOL
✌️😁
Thank you.
I had a 67' Beetle. It was the last year for the (cool) old style bumpers! So your 68' kit should have the (ugly) new style, bigger bumpers! 1967 was the first year for 12 volt, and the battery was under the rear seat. I'm not sure where the 68' battery goes.
PLUS: I've had hundreds & hundreds of dollars worth of car & motorcycle parts chrome plated !
As a result I NEVER, wanted the parts, anything less than BRIGHT !
So I'm always confused when you say your Chrome is too bright...! ??? ...Newk from Kentucky
I had a 71 with the big tail lights. Loved those old small ones. With a lot of models the chrome is much MUCH brighter (fake looking like a mirror) instead of shiny but still looks like metal. I was in the Navy and man I know about bright chrome. But some of these models look way to plastic. It's too thick too.

It sure is. Thank you.

Their flower power is no match for my glower power!
C. Montgomery Burns
LOL. I knew exactly what that was.
