you can put unique inputs on the back buttons with steam. but this only works when you have the default config enabled. Then you can also remap both function buttons on the front aswell. If you however enable a different profile on ps5 then it will not work. Steam now fully supports the dualsense edge.

I used DS Edge for almost 3 months and got durability issue on one of the back-button. I’d say I used a little bit extreme for playing FFXVI and put the back-button in function for perfecting the combo movement. The stick never dropped down or get mechanical disturbance previously, but once in the middle of playing, felt one of the back-button suddenly a bit tilted and the button feel become a bit unresponsive. I stopped the playing and curious for hours about it, until I opened the DS Edge. I found the small plastic part on back-button module was parted. I did some search on internet, this module is not available on the market. Finally I applied glue to rectify the parted plastic part. Now it is back to normal but with more cautious when pushing the back button. Just with it, felt a bit dissatisfied due to durability and became less worth value vs money.

I got the Dual Sense Edge back in March 2023 to replace my victrix pro BFG controller. There were a bunch of reasons on why i wanted it, then why i returned it, but long story short I wanted to try to DSE after my Victrix experience. Almost a year later it's still my go to controller. I mostly play Destiny 2. A negative is the battery life seems pretty low life as now I get maybe about 3 hours of gaming between charges. Also the stick would started to drift from time to time, but it seems to do this when the battery is low or when there's something blocking the signal (like a jar of water in the way or something). It's not all the time but it's weird. I'd say my biggest complaint is I wish it had 4 button like the victrix did. Also the instant triggers on the Victrix had less travel than the DSE's instant triggers.
All in all it's still a very good controller, but I agree with your assessment: it's a perfect $140-$150 controller, not a $200 one. If it had two more buttons and better battery then $200 would be justified. I still really love my controller, but I probably would've went with one of the popular modded companies instead (Evil, Scuff, AIM). All in all I say if you primarily play FPSs these controllers are definitely worth it... for other games i'm not sure. I mainly play fighting games and I have fightsticks and hitboxes for those.

    • @sideoftech
      @sideoftech  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks for your thorough POV! The DSE just needs a little more oomph and battery life to make it to that $200 for sure 👏🏼

Been a year since this review. Any software yet for pc to change button mappings yet? Just ordered one and after seeing this review im a bit skeptical now as I only do pc gaming and do not want to buy a ps5 just to map the controller paddles. Wanted a controller that had unique features coming from an old xbox 360 controller and decided to get a nice one with tons of cool features. Now worried some pc games ive played without issuss on my older 360 controller will now not be playable with this controller. Really want to sony exclusives with the haptic triggers and motion sensors on pc.None of which xbox has to this day. But also dont want to cut myself out of playing pc exclusive tittles or xbox titles either.

It definitely gives you another level of enjoyment for gaming I can’t even hold you. Only complaints I have and it’s what every one is talking about is the battery. Oh it’s bad pretty bad. Soon as I saw you could replace the thumbsticks I was sold. I've had 2 PS5 controllers now, both suffered from the drift. Sure, the DualSense Edge is crazy expensive in comparison to a singular controller, but it's basically future proof against the drift. Replacing the sticks looks so easy and the cost is way cheaper.

If they had this available in the Alpine Green the DualShock was, I would have bought one already. I haven't seen it on sale except on Black Friday it was $20 off at GameStop (a place I won't risk giving money to - Who's to say I'd ever receive it?). Alpine Green, White back with white and the correctly colored symbols buttons, I'm in. As it is, not unless I can find a new one for around $130-140.

@@sideoftech I bought one for use with my PS4 Pro and loved the white buttons where the symbol colors jump straight out at you. I then found and bought another set on eBay (I put them in my all Red DualShock). So many games show the button colors on screen telling you to press that button and if you're close to a large TV taking your eyes off what's happening on screen to see it is no benefit. That's where color is best and none of the darn DualSense controllers have the symbols with color. If you happen to forget which is which (Was that square red and circle pinkish off-red, or the other way around?) bad things happen in the game you're playing (riding on the dingy to escape in Dark Pictures - Man of Medan, anyone?).
Yep. Alpine Green with the buttons having the colors and I'm buying.

If this came with 4 back buttons / paddles it would be best PS5 pro controller. X, O, triangle and square mapped to those and I would never have to move my finger from right stick. Been stuck with Scuf reflex because of this. I have had so many issues with Scuf but I can not play without 4 paddles anymore.

The only reason i got the edge is because on pc i can finally put unique inputs on the back buttons instead of being limited to copies of the face button, triggers and traackpad or dpad.
on shooters on pc i use flick stick and i forego the weapon wheel.
I use the face buttons for the weapons. and i use the back buttons for actions as jumping or punching / kicking.
The Edge is only fully remapable on steam if you put it on the default config. Then the back buttons can be fully remapped. But i would have liked 4 back buttons instead of 2.
And the trigger stops are not really that short. I own a flydigi vader 3 pro and apex 2. both have way shorter trigger stops, and actuall mouse clicks on them. The razer wolverine v2 ps5 controller also has a better trigger stop aswell.

This controller has been amazing to me for PC gaming but has one major flaw that almost renders it almost useless. The USB-C connection.... so on mulitple ps5 controllers including this one I have lost the ability to play wired because of poor soldlering which makes the connector loose and unable to hold the wired connection. I only bought this to play competitive gaming on my pc and with horrid bluetooth latency I can't use it anymore. Even with the "lock" it doesn't control any lateral movements you may have when playing and holding the controller. For PS5 use this is amazing and a great purchasae but longevity wise for PC use be awaare of this problem. Scuf has released a new controller to help with these problems and also include wireless tech to play controller wirelessly! Great review! but just looking for my PC players

Do not buy this controller because the back button modules are defective & will break well before the warranty period.
Ok you say the warranty covers it, but the warranty period only covers a year from the purchase date - however, if your replacement controllers inevitably break past that original purchase date, then you're out of luck & stuck with a broken replacement refurbished controller.

Wait for a sale? Given that the pro controller market starts around $250, the $200 dollar price tag is very attractive. The interchangeable analog sticks alone are worth more than battery life. This is a great controller for Sony's first outing. This entitled community needs to stop bitching about what they're not working to improve and just be greteful.

@gigapac you can't have EVERYTHING your way, that's what makes you entitled. I made a whole point before the sentence you wanted to focus on. Companies get sued, it's part of the business. So what? Did they lose? Until they do, there's nothing worth mentioning.
