  • Senior economist PK Basu reveals that the growth during the first term of PM Modi surpassed all previous five-year prime ministerial terms, notably outpacing the UPA era
However, SC Garg, Ex-Finance Secy, counters, stating that the average growth of the UPA term ultimately takes the lead over the NDA

It is amazing and puzzling that any progress reported about India becomes questionable and questionable because Modi is in power, but the same methodologies used in America for reporting its economy's status is taken very compliantly as a word of gospel. It is unfortunate that world organisations go to the extent of scruitinising India's progress by devising the most innovative and scientific methods for India only to probe its progress. It is not their fault. Rather, it is because India's own insiders, illiterate armchair overnight turned "experts," create doubts and false narratives about it with the loudest mega phones they can get hands on.

UPA sucked India dry like leeches sucking blood. That was the UPA era of poverty, regressive policies, 'kadi ninda', 'raj' politics, submissive to foreign powers, divisional & communal politics, suppression of Hindus, biased laws and complete destruction of democratic values by dynastic politics. A broken Bharat era where people were depraved and deprived of basic amenities, like gas, water, electricity, transportation, good roads etc.

Sri Modi Ji is agift to our nation, he and his team of ministers have done wonders for our country that could not be done by the Khangress govt over almost 70 years of Khangress rule. Be it border security, industrial progress, indeginous manufacturing, defence, aero-space exploration, sending Gaganyaan to the moon, flying Tejas in our skies, infrastructure-of roads, railwaays, bridges, economy, education..even on the world stage our national impression has never been better, and in each & every area of importance to common citizens, Modi Ji has touch crores of lives. Even the whole world looks up to Modi Ji for his wisdom and skill in managing complex geopolitical situations. PLEASE GO OUT TO VOTE BJP, let us keep the security and prosperity of our nation in the efficient administration of the Sri Modi Ji's Govt. I think this time it will be the brouhaha about if PM Modi will get 400+ for the NDA or not. I saw the original discussion on the India Today Conclave with Rahul as moderator. The discussion was interesting.
Let me begin my noting that I spent more than three decades at the IMF before retiring in 2005. I then joined Global Financial Integrity, a think tank in Washington DC where I am now the Chief Economist Emeritus.
I am confused by Shamika's arguments that satellite images of construction activity during the UPA and NDA governments is evidence of the latter's superior economic performance. That, in a nutshell, is her argument. However, it is seriously flawed for the following reasons.
First, the satellite is a dumb machine--it can take pictures but it is up to human beings to interpret them correctly. The fact of the matter is that while economic growth tends to drive construction activity, the converse is not true, particularly if, as in India's case, it accounts for just around 8 percent of Gross Value Added. In other words, a dog wags its tail but the tail cannot wag the dog. One cannot start with satellite images and say "See, this is why the Modi government performed better." To cite satellite pictures of greater construction activity as evidence of better economic performance is misleading and disingenuous.
Second, the greater construction boom of the NDA over the UPA period itself needs to be shorn of (1) population growth (2) rising inequality and (3) greater rural-urban migration which may be driving some of the private sector investment in construction. The government has not proved the theory that overall construction has boomed despite these factors.
I agree that economists need to be non-partisan in their analysis. In that light, I am disappointed that the discussion of satellite pictures as evidence of better economic performance passed off as "research".

Great work, remember this is a proxy data and we all know that hard infrastructure development has happened at much faster pace under Modi govt.
What’s disappointing is still rampant corruption in government offices, poor conditions of govt schools and hospitals and slow pace of industrialisation!

Human settlement is directionaly proportional to Economic activity? Is that a correct assumption ?
This works well for China which have manufacturing or IT / ITES. India has significant economic contribution from agriculture.
How will we pickup agricultural growth, fisheries or growth in industries where we dont need increased human settlement.

The difference between being brilliant and being manipulative cannot be easily worked out. In case you have the IQ, do go through the real indicators that I have provided in the comments below. Data does not need to scream loud, it just need to bring forth the ground level reality to the people.

    • @narayanprasad4008

@neerajk5212 In a hugely populated country , data is the indicator of which way things are headed , not your screamers on panels . Subjective versus Objective analysis . Science with metrics are needed to evaluate objectively . Your or my opinions are irrelevant .

    • @neerajk5212
      @neerajk5212 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@narayanprasad4008 Suddenly, it became a hugely populated country is it? Does it mean that your party has been underestimating the size of it so far? I do not need a lesson from you on data analysis and its applications. It is evident that the fundamentalists do, otherwise, they would not have devised a deceptive chart to mask their incompetence. I will also let you know another secret of the real success free of charge here and it will not be a psychic skill like "Time before Time". The fundamental disparity between the fundamentalists and the Congress party's approach lies in the fact that the Congress party tackled issues at their core, initiating implementation from grassroots levels. Hence, their results took time but were substantial and long term. In contrast, the fundamentalists always sought shortcuts and quick victories, failing to address root causes and resorting to numbers to camouflage their shortcomings. A prime example is the handling of poverty rates, GDP per capita, and GDP. The Congress party combated poverty through comprehensive plans that positively impacted GDP per capita and subsequently, GDP. Consequently, despite the gradual pace, poverty rates declined rapidly and GDP per capita saw significant improvement under Congress governance. On the other hand, the fundamentalists prioritized GDP by focusing on random infrastructural projects and investments. While this led to an increase in GDP, it came at the cost of a significant decline in GDP per capita! In turn, the prestigious Yogiji's state failed to reduce its poverty rates as per the expectation in the last decade even trailing behind some African nations. Always bear in mind, the rich, the affluent can navigate without much reliance on the government; it's the impoverished who need its support. The affluent possess their own avenues irrespective of who leads the government, which is why even dictator-led countries have billionaires. May be your opinions are irrelevant, but mine is certainly not, I can definitely promise you that. Your stories pale in comparison to the concrete data available. So, next time, present something substantial rather than mere narratives.

Educated Indians, sooner or later, when you children will start asking questions, these fundamentalists will label your children as either Anti-Nationals, or Parasites and so on. Keep this in mind.

Today I went to a village about 92 kms from Hyderabad. The drive was on the national highway for about 80kms. The remaining 12 kms was on state roads. Of this about 4-5kms was good tar road and the remaining was poor pot hole riddled roads. It is clear to me that most of Telangana's growth has been in some pockets around Hyderabad and immediate surrounding areas and some districts represented by CMs and their family members. Rest of constituencies have been neglected.
